  • Recently, there is an increasing demand for applications utilizing maps and locations such as autonomous vehicles and location-based services. Since these applications are developed based on spatial data, interest in spatial data processing is increasing and various studies are being conducted. In this paper, I propose a parallel mining algorithm using the CUDA library to efficiently analyze large spatial data. Spatial data includes both geometric (spatial) and non-spatial (aspatial) attributes. The proposed parallel spatial data mining algorithm analyzes both the geometric and non-spatial relationships between two layers. The experiment was performed on graphics cards containing CUDA cores based on TIGER/Line data, which is the actual spatial data for the US census. Experimental results show that the proposed parallel algorithm using CUDA greatly improves spatial data mining performance.

  • Autonomous Underwater Gliders (AUGs) are a type of Underwater Vehicles that move without the help of a standard propeller. Gliders use buoyancy engines to vary their weight or buoyancy and traverse with the help of the Lift and Drag forces developed from the fuselage and the wings. The Lift and Drag Coefficients, also called Hydrodynamic coefficients (HDCs) play a major role in glider dynamics. This paper examines the effect of the different types of glider fuselages based on the bodies of revolution (BOR) of NACA sections. The HDCs of the glider fuselages are numerically estimated at a low-speed regime (105 Reynolds Number) using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The methodology is validated using published literature, and the results of CFD are discussed for possible application in the estimation of glider turning motion.

  • Unmanned aerial vehicles are gaining in popularity with the development of science and technology, and are being used for a wide range of purposes, including surveillance, rescue, delivery of goods, and data collection. In particular, the ability to avoid obstacles during navigation without human oversight is one of the essential capabilities that a drone must possess. Many works currently have solved this problem by implementing deep reinforcement learning (DRL) model. The essential core of a DRL model is reward function. Therefore, this paper proposes a new reward function with appropriate action space and employs dueling double deep Q-Networks to train a drone to navigate in indoor environment without collision.

  • One of the difficult works in an autonomous driving system is detecting road lanes or objects in the road boundaries. Detecting and tracking a vehicle is able to play an important role on providing important information in the framework of advanced driver assistance systems such as identifying road traffic conditions and crime situations. This paper proposes a vehicle detection scheme based on deep learning to classify and tracking vehicles in a complex and diverse environment. We use the modified YOLO as the object detector and polynomial regression as object tracker in the driving video. With the experimental results, using YOLO model as deep learning model, it is possible to quickly and accurately perform robust vehicle tracking in various environments, compared to the traditional method.

  • USBL systems are essential for providing accurate positions of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). On the other hand, the accuracy can be degraded by outliers because of the environmental conditions. A failure to address these outliers can significantly impact the reliability of underwater localization and navigation systems. This paper proposes a novel outlier rejection algorithm for AUV localization using Voronoi diagrams and query point calculation. The Voronoi diagram divides data space into Voronoi cells that center on ultra-short baseline (USBL) data, and the calculated query point determines if the corresponding USBL data is an inlier. This study conducted experiments acquiring GPS and USBL data simultaneously and optimized the algorithm empirically based on the acquired data. In addition, the proposed method was applied to a sensor fusion algorithm to verify its effectiveness, resulting in improved pose estimations. The proposed method can be applied to various sensor fusion algorithms as a preprocess and could be used for outlier rejection for other 2D-based location sensors.

  • 6G network technology represents the next generation of communications, supporting high-speed connectivity, ultra-low latency, and integration with cutting-edge technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), virtual reality, and autonomous vehicles. These advancements promise to drive transformative changes in digital society. However, as technology progresses, the demand for efficient data transmission and energy management between smart devices and network equipment also intensifies. A significant challenge within 6G networks is the optimization of interactions between satellites and smart devices. This study addresses this issue by introducing a new game theory-based technique aimed at minimizing system-wide energy consumption and latency. The proposed technique reduces the processing load on smart devices and optimizes the offloading decision ratio to effectively utilize the resources of Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed technique achieves a 30% reduction in energy consumption and a 40% improvement in latency compared to existing methods, thereby significantly enhancing performance.

  • Light detection and ranging (LiDAR), a widely used sensor in mobile robots and autonomous vehicles, has its most important function as measuring the range of objects in three-dimensional space and generating point clouds. These point clouds consist of the coordinates of each reflection point and can be used for various tasks, such as obstacle detection and environment recognition. However, several processing steps are required, such as three-dimensional modeling, mesh generation, and rendering. Efficient data processing is crucial because LiDAR provides a large number of real-time measurements with high sampling frequencies. Despite the rapid development of controller computational power, simplifying the computational algorithm is still necessary. This paper presents a method for estimating the presence of curbs, humps, and ground tilt using range measurements from a single horizontal or vertical scan instead of point clouds. These features can be obtained by data segmentation based on linearization. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm was verified by experiments in various environments.
