  • A conventional quarter-car suspension system is a single input system with one actuator. Thus, the performance enhancement for ride quality could be limited. In this paper, we propose a novel automotive suspension system for a quarter-car with two independent actuators to improve the control performance. The left eigenstructure assignment method for multi-variable systems has been applied to the proposed novel quarter-car model.

  • The 3-way valve have been used as a valve for opening and closing the valve by the flow control in the pressure system of the cryogenic and high pressure environment. In this paper, numerical analysis and experimental study on fracture nipple of 3-way ultra high pressure valve applied to space launch vehicle was carried out. We have developed a 3-way valve numerical simulation modeler of cryogenic environment using commercial software ANSYS 18.2. As results of numerical analysis, optimum nipple condition was derived. In addition, a 3-way valve prototype was fabricated and the fracture test was performed and compared with the numerical analysis results.

  • Research on ISA(Integrated Starter/Alternator) receives wide attention as system voltage is increased to 42V Based on requirement of starter and alternator for the conventional vehicle, system requirement and specification are determined. Also to control proposed system, suitable control methods are proposed. Main control issues with ISA are whether torque assist is required and if so how much torque is needed. In this paper, vehicle performance with various control methods and capacity are simulated and simulation results are analyzed. Vehicle performance is analyzed with vehicle simulator. For the simulation, suitable ISA model is also developed.

  • This paper presents a new anti-lock brake system(ABS) using electro-rheological(ER) valve actuators for the wheel slip control. The hydraulic dynamic model of the automotive brake system is formulated by incorporating electric field-dependent Bingham properties of ER fluid obtained experimentally. The brake system designed by this hydraulic model is able to control wheel slip by controlling the intensity of electric field which tunes the braking torque. The control fields of the ER valve to command desired wheel slip are determined by a sliding mode controller. A comparison between the proposed brake system and the conventional brake system is made by providing with computer simulations of vehicle motions under ABS performance requirement condition.

  • A study to reduce the transient torque in shifting in automatic transmission has been very important issue. Recently it is really dominant to decrease the torque by using independent-acting hydraulic circuit because we can control the clutch pressure actively and elaborately. So we design the new hydraulic circuit to control the clutches in automatic transmission and make the module library of computer simulations, We apply the results to GM model automatic transmission and carry out 1longrightarrow4 shifting simulations. By this work we recognize the capability of active and elaborate clutch pressure control using new hydraulic circuit. In addition We develop the tool to simulate the powertrain system. It is easier to update and exchange the subsystem model or parameters than conventional simulation tools.

  • In this paper, an engine-CVT integrated control algorithm is suggested by considering the powertrain loss, inertia torque and the CVT ratio response lag. The integrated control algorithm consists of (1) the optimal engine power calculation and (2) determining of the optimal throttle valve opening and the optimal CVT ratio. The optimal engine power is obtained by compensating the inertia torque due to the CVT ratio change and the powertrain loss that is calculated iteration procedure. In addition, an algorithm to compensate the effect of the CVT ratio response lag on the drive torque is suggested by the engine speed compensation causing the increased optimal CVT ratio. Simulation results show that the engine-CVT integrated control algorithm developed in this study makes it possible to obtain better engine operation on the optimal operating line, which results in the improved fuel economy while satisfying the driver's demand.

  • An integrated dynamic control (IDCF) with an active front steering system and an active rear braking system is proposed and developed in this study. A fuzzy logic controller is applied to calculate the desired additional steering angle and desired slip of the rear inner wheel. To validate IDCF system, an eight degree of freedom, nonlinear vehicle model and a sliding mode wheel slip controller are also designed. Various road conditions are used to test the performance. The results show that the yaw rate of IDCF vehicle followed the reference yaw rate and reduced the body slip angle, compared with uncontrolled vehicle. Thus, the IDCF vehicle had enhanced lateral stability and controllability.

  • In this paper, the control strategy of ratio changing system for a metal belt CVT adopting primary pressure regulation is developed, and the shirting performance of pressure regulating type CVT with the suggested control strategy is investigated. The control strategy suggested in this study is composed of 2 feedback loop, one is speed ratio feedback and the other is primary pressure feedback. The pressure feedback is adopted to ensure prohibiting a belt slip during transient period in a fast downshift mode. Simulation results show that the system with suggested control strategy gives appropriate response time and tracking Performance for upshift and also gives a proper primary pressure which can prohibit the belt slip. In addition, it is fecund that the given system has an acceptable servo property in tracking the target speed ratio and robustness for the disturbance of line pressure.

  • In this study, the air-fuel ratio(A/F) control characteristics of a liquid and a gaseous fueled engine are investigated. Engine models far both the liquid and the gaseous fueled engine are developed to compare the characteristics of fuel delivery into the cylinder, and the performances of the models are evaluated using the simulation and experiment. The simulation and experimental results show that the gaseous fueled engine has better control performance than that of the liquid fueled engine in terms of the air-fuel ratio control. This study could be used to develop air-fuel ratio control schemes for both the liquid and the gaseous fueled engine.

  • In the present paper, dynamics analyses of pressure control characteristics have been performed in a variable pressure solenoid valve. A number of solenoid valves have been used in the electronic control system, especially automatic transmission of an automobile. Variable pressure solenoid valve is intended to produce spatial movement by the electrical signal. Dynamics analyses of pressure control characteristics have been practiced by the Finite Difference Method, which show the pressure distribution in the solenoid valve. The results of numerical analyses show the dependence of pressure distribution on the displacement of the spool in the solenoid valve, and then, are compared with the experimental results.
