  • Remanufacturing of automobile parts is important for increasing the recycling resources. ECU(Electronic Control Unit) systems are becoming an increasingly important part of an automobile. But production company are reported in the ECU remanufacturing industry of domestic automobile parts due to a lack of remanufacturing technology and marketability. This paper introduces the ECU of remanufacturing, also grasps the structure and the analyzes failure cause that is external factors and fault in the characteristic design and steps in the Independent ECU remanufacturing process. The ECU manufacturing industry of the US was examined. The results in this paper could be used as the system information for further remanufacturing industry of domestic automobile parts.

  • In this paper, a new control system design algorithm, which has the advantages of the existing LQR and eigenstrcture assignment methods, is proposed. The method of the transformation matrix via block controller is utilized to develop the scheme. Using the proposed algorithm, LQR weighting matrices q and R, which satisfy the desired closed-loop eigenvalues and eigenvectors, can be achieved using only simple matrix computations. The usefulness of the proposed scheme is verified by applying to a numerical example and an automotive active suspension control system design.

Trend of exhaust emission control of diesel engine vehicles in Korea (국내 경유자동차 배출물 규제동향)

  • This short report describes the trend of exhaust emission control of the diesel engine vehicles in Korea, which originally was motivated from the newly proposed Emission Control Regulation of Diesel Engine Vehicles possible to be activated in 1991 by Korean Environmental Protection Agency. This short survey report has been prepared by the special working group of The Korea Society of Automotive Engineers (KSAE) on this particular subject. This report includes (1) estimation of portions of contribution of diesel engine vehicle emission to total air pollution, (2) comparison of proposals of new articles/regulations/laws in Korea with those of other selected countries such as USA, European countries, and Japan, (3) comparison of vehical emission control regulations in Korea with those in other selected countries, (4) technical aspects of possibilities of reduction of diesel engine vehicle emissions, (5) additional administrational aspects of technology development program, (6) social impact resulted from the severe emission control regulation on diesel engine vehicles, and (7) proposals, prepared by the special working group of the KSAE, on the emission control regulation of diesel engine vehicles, which can possibly bring better cleaner air released from the air pollution resulted from diesel engine exhaust emissions in real sense with minimal financial contribution, with optimal technological efforts, with less social impacts, within five to ten year period.

A Study on the Adaptive Control of Spark Timing Using Cylinder Pressure in SI Engine (전기점화기관에서 실린더압력을 이용한 점화시기 적응제어에 관한 연구)

  • The spark timing is one of major parameters to the engine performance and emissions. The ECU controls the spark timing based on preset values, which are functions of load and speed, in most of today's automotive SI engine. In this system, the preset spark timing can be different from optimum value due to the deviations from mass production, aging effects and so on. In the present study, a control logic is investigated for real time adaptation of spark timing to optimal value. It has been found that crank angle of miximum cylinder pressure is one of the appropriate parameters to estimate the optimum spark timing throught experiment. It has also been observed for spark timing convergence by variation of engineering model factors. The simulation program including engineering model for cycle by cycle variation of combustion is developed for surveying spark timing control logic. It is also shown that simulation results reflect experiment outputs and reasonableness of spark timing control logic for crank angle of maximum cylinder pressure.

Electronic Ratio Control of Metal Belt CVT (금속벨트 CVT 변속비 전자제어화)

  • In this paper a stepping motor drive electronic ratio control system for a metal belt CVT is suggested. The electronic ratio control system developed in this study is designed to control flow rate which is required to obtain the shift speed and to control the primary actuator pressure to maintain the desired ratio. Considering these control characterstics a fuzzy logic is used for the CVT ratio control. Using the fuzzy logic dynamic models of the ratio control system is investigated and compared with the experimental results. The experimental and simulation results show that the electronic ratio control system developed in this study can be used in CVT system for the active control of the speed ratio.

  • In this paper, engine-CVT consolidated control algorithm was developed. Engine -CVT control strategy suggested uses throttle control based on power difference and CVT ratio control based in CVT ratio map. Simulation results showed that the larger the rate of CVT ratio, the better the engine performance in the optimal operation line. Also, it was found that the engine performance where the magnitude of the acceleration changes abruptly depends on the magnitude of the rate of CVT ratio. Comparing the results of CVT control only without engine control, the engine-CVT control algorithm suggested in this work showed better performance demonstrating that the consolidated control algorithm should be required for the engine optimal operation.

  • A crank angle-based engine control system has been developed for use as an engine research tool to provide precise control of the fuel injection(timing and duration) and ignition(timing and dwell) in real-time. The engine event information is provided by the engine shaft encoder, and the engine control system uses this information to generate spark and injector control signals for relevant cylinders. Eight different engine types and four different rotary encoder resolutions can be accommodated by this system. Also this system allows a user to individually control the ignition and fuel injection for each cylinder in a simple manner such as through a keyboard or in a real-time operation from a closed-loop control program.

  • A vehicle longitudinal control strategy with guaranteed string stability for vehicle stop-and-go(SG) cruise control is presented in this paper. The SG cruise control systems should be designed such that string stability can be guaranteed in addition to that every vehicle in a string of SG cruise control vehicles must track any bounded acceleration and velocity profile of its preceding vehicle with a bounded spacing and velocity error. An optimal vehicle following control law based on the information of the 1311owing distance (clearance) and its velocity relative to the vehicle ahead (relative velocity) has been used and string stability analysis has been done based on the control law and constant time gap spacing policy, A validated multi-vehicle simulation package has been shown that the string stability analysis using the approximate model of the vehicle servo-loop which includes vehicle powertrain and brake control system dynamics is valid in the design of the SG cruise control law with guaranteed string stability.

  • This paper presents a complex stochastic wheelbase preview control method of a motorcycle suspension based on hierarchical modeling method. As usual, a vehicle suspension system is controlled as a whole body. In this method, a motorcycle suspension with five Degrees of Freedom(DOF) is dealt with two local independent 2-DOF suspensions according to the hierarchical modeling method. The central dynamic equations that harmonize local relations are deduced. The vertical and pitch accelerations of the suspension center are treated as center control objects, and two local semi-active control forces can be obtained. In example, a real time Linear Quadratic Gaussian(LQG) algorithm is adopted for the front suspension and the combination of the wheelbase preview and LQG control method is designed for the rear suspension. The results of simulation show that the control strategy has less calculating time and is convenient to adopt different control strategies for front and rear suspensions. The method proposed in this paper provides a new way for the vibration control of multi-wheel vehicles.

Worst-case Development and Evaluation for Vehicle Dynamics Controller in UCC HILS (차량자세제어 최악상황 개발 및 UCC HILS 시스템 기반 성능 평가)

  • The current test methods are insufficient to evaluate and ensure the safety and reliability of vehicle system for all possible dynamic situation including the worst case such as rollover, spin-out and so on. Although the known NHTSA Sine with dwell steering maneuvers are applied for the vehicle performance assessment, they aren't enough to estimate other possible worst case scenarios. Therefore, it is crucial for us to verify the various worst cases including the existing severe steering maneuvers. This paper includes useful worst case based upon the existing worst case scenarios mentioned above and worst case evaluation for vehicle dynamic controller in simulation basis and UCC HILS. The only human steering angle is selected as a design parameter here and optimized to maximize the index function to be expressed in terms of both yaw rate and side slip angle. The obtained scenarios were enough to generate the worst case to meet NHTSA worst case definition. It has been concluded that the new procedure in this paper is adequate to create other feasible worst case scenarios for a vehicle dynamic control system.
