  • A shock absorber rod is located in the center of the absorber piston and is responsible for the reciprocating movement portion. If it has surface defects, the damping performance of product will be adversely affected. A rod surface has gloss by heat treatment. Therefore, it is difficult to find a defect, such as dust, imprints, and blowholes. Because a total inspection is achieved by visual inspection by workers, it causes eyestrain and the quality of the product is not constant. In this paper, a machine vision system was developed to find a defect using a line-scan camera. The machine can detect surface defects than 0.3mm. To minimize the occurrence probability of defects on the inspection process, the developed auto inspection system had an automatic feeding system and incorporated a protection system. Through the development of this system, which relies on the operator's visual inspection of the surface of the shock absorber, the Rod inspection system constructed quality inspection standards and standardized tests to ensure improved reliability.

  • Recently, according to the rapid development of computer and electronic technology, most crude oil carriers adopt automated cargo handling system. But an excessive automation makes system so complicate that it could increase the Possibility of accidents due to human error. Although a cargo handling process is done by an expert, the potential of accidents by human factor lies through the whole cargo handling procedure and the current automated system lacks of the functionality to prevent a mis-operation and diagnose the abnormal status of the system. Because the oil concerned accident could be almost a disaster, the primary goal of system development should not be a fully automated system but be a perfectly safe system. This paper deals with the analysis and design of an expert system which can provide mariner with the operational guidance and the facility of crisis management by monitoring system's abnormal condition and human's mis-operation.

  • The advanced semiconductor technology and electronic design automation(EDA) tools make it possible to implement the system on the programmable logic devices. The electronic design method is also changing from schematic capture to hardware description language. In this paper, I present the architecture of multi-dimensional digital filter which can be efficiently implemented on PLDs. This is based on the former research results which are called algorithm decomposition technique. Algorithm decomposition technique is used to obtain the computational primitive from the state space equations of the multi-dimensional digital filtering algorithm. The obtained computational primitive is designed with VHDL. This can be used to implement the filtering system as a component. The designed filtering system is implemented on the PLD. Therefore, the filter can be upgradable on system. It is greatly reduced the time-to-market time of the system that is based on the multi-dimensional filter.

  • This paper described a design and implementation of a single-chip encoder/decoder using the LZSS algorithm and entropy coding in 0.6${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ CMOS technology. Dictionary storage for the dictionary search processor(DISP) used a 2K$\times$8bit on-chip memory with 50MHz clock speed. It performs compression on byte-oriented input data at a data rate of one byte per clock cycle except when one out of every 33 cycles is used to update the string window of dictionary. In result, the average compression ratio is 46% by applied entropy coding of the LZSS codeword output. This is to improved on the compression performance of 7% much more then LZSS.

  • In this paper, we propose the algorithm that improves the linearity of the walking assistant robot on lateral slopes. The walking assistant robot goes out of the course due to the rotational moment which is caused by the weight of the robot and the slope. To compensate this, we give the weight to each driving axle after comparing the real rotational angular velocity with the target rotational angular velocity which is entered by an user. The results of applying the algorithm to the real walking assistant robot show that the yaw axis deviation of the robot without the algorithm diverges, but the yaw axis deviation of the robot with the algorithm lies within 20cm, which can be recognized as stable. In addition, the changing rate of the course deviation is stabilized and shows no more course deviation, after moving 300cm.

  • Between 1980 and 1997 the Korean textile and clothing industry (KTCI) experienced the transformation of export-led accumulation regime rooted in domestically-derived price competitiveness into the combination between foreign mass production involving the geographical extension of productive forces and quality strategy based on upgrading technology and automation involved in the domestic market for high quality and price products. This restructuring of the KTCI is rooted at the crisis in the export-led growth regime implemented unity 1980 due to the rapid increase in wage levels by the ‘great labour movement’occurred in 1987. In particular, increased wage and collective bargaining realized through labour empowerment led to the crisis in the conjoin between mass production and mass export based on long working hours and low wage structure. The aim of this paper is to explore the transformation of development modes between 1980 and 1997 that can help us in understanding the fundamental reasons for the restructuring of the KTCI. To this end, the paper identifiles the changing accumulation regimes between 1980 and 1997 mediated by wage-labour relations, inter-firm relations and state-film relations, which are insitutional forms of the modes of regulation.

  • A semiconductor manufacturing process is the complicate and dynamic process, and consists of many sub-processes. An etching process is the most important process in the semiconductor fabrication. In this paper, the decision support system based upon data mining and knowledge discovery is an important factor to improve the productivity and yield. The proposed decision support system consists of a neural network model and an inference system based on fuzzy logic Firstly, the product results are predicted by the neural network model constructed by the product patterns that represent the quality of the etching process. And the product patters are classified by expert's knowledge. Finally, the product conditions are estimated by the fuzzy inference system using the rules extracted from the classified patterns. Prediction of product qualities can be linked to each input and process variables. We employ data mining and intelligent techniques to find the best condition of the etching process. The proposed decision support system is efficient and easy to be implemented for the process management based upon expert's knowledge.

  • Purpose Recently, much attention in building smart factory has dramatically increased with an emergence of the Industry 4.0. As we noted a connectivity gap between main concerns of MIS and the automated manufacturing systems such as POP and MES, it is recommended that CPS (Cyber-Physical System) can be an important building block for the smart factory and enrich the depth of MIS knowledge. Therefore, first, this study attempted to identify the connectivity gap between the traditional field of MIS (ERP, SCM, CRM, etc.) and the automated manufacturing systems, and then recommended CPS as a technical bridge to fill the gap. Secondly, we studied concepts and research trend of CPS that is believed to be a virtual mechanism to manage manufacturing systems in an integrated manner. Finally, we suggested research and educational opportunities in MIS based on the CPS perspectives. Design/methodology/approach Since this paper introduced relatively new idea of CPS originally discussed in the field of engineering, traditional MIS research method such as survey and experiment may not fit well. Therefore this research collected technical cases through literature survey in engineering fields, video clips from Youtube, and field references from various ICT Exhibitions and Conventions. Then we analyzed and reorganized them to highlight the necessity of CPS and draw some insight to share with MIS academia. Findings This paper introduced CPS to bridge the connectivity gap between the traditional MIS and automated manufacturing system (smart factory), a concern far away from the MIS academia. Further, this paper suggested future research subjects of MIS such as developing software to share big production data and systems to support manufacturing decisions, and innovating MIS curricula including smart and intelligent manufacturing technology within the context of traditional enterprise systems.

  • Due to the fast growing rate of the global container trade, every major port is under the pressure of meeting the projected capacity demand. As a result, alternative solutions have been sought for improving capacity and meeting the growing demand for container storage area and terminal capacity. Moreover, material handling process re-engineering is now a critical issue for logistics and supply chain managers of airline, shipping lines, terminal and warehousing enterprises around the world. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to develop the 3D simulator for executing performance valuation of port transportation systems. The developed 3D simulator system is to measure the effectiveness of the proposed total system and compare it with existing practices. The performance analysis variables are also defined for these comparisons.
