An Image Quality Evaluation Model for Optical Strip Signal-to-Noise Ratio in the Target Area of High Temperature Forgings

  • Under the time-varying temperature, the high-temperature radiation of forgings and the change of reflection characteristics of oxide skin on the surface of forgings lead to the difficulty of obtaining images to truly reflect the geometric characteristics of forgings. It is urgent to study the clear and reliable acquisition method of hot forging feature image under time-varying temperature to meet the requirements of visual measurement of hot geometric parameters of forgings. Based on this, this chapter first puts forward the quality evaluation method of forging feature image, which provides guarantee for the accurate evaluation of feature image quality. Furthermore, the factors that affect the image quality, such as the radiation characteristics of forgings and the photographic characteristics of cameras, are analyzed, and the imaging spectrum which can effectively suppress the radiation intensity of forgings is determined. Finally, aiming at the problem that the quality of image acquisition is difficult to guarantee due to the drastic change of radiation intensity of forgings under time-varying temperature, an image acquisition method based on minimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) based laser light intensity adaptation is proposed, which significantly improves the definition of feature light strips in forging images at high temperature, and finally realizes the clear acquisition of feature images of large-scale hot forging under time-varying temperature.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of training and use of worked-example on chemical problem-solving learning. Schema acquisition and rule automation are the basic components of skilled problem-solving, which are dependent on appropriately focused attention and sufficient cognitive resources. Training and use of worked-example facilitate schema acquisition and rule automation, so improve problem-solving learning. The subjects of this study were 60 high school students. The average age was 17 years old. Then, they were randomly assigned to each groups and the chemical reaction problems used as experimental materials. The independent variables of this study were training and use of worked-examples and dependent variables were time for solution and the number of error. The results of this study were as follows; 1. The worked-example groups spent significantly less time on solution for acquisition problems than the conventional problem groups. 2. The long-acquisition groups spent significantly less time on solution for acquisition problems than the short-acquisition groups. 3. The modified worked-example groups did not spend significantly less time on solution for acquisition problems than the worked-example groups.

  • Flaw classification and sizing are very essential issues in quantitative ultrasonic nondestructive evaluation of various materials and structures including weldments. For performing of these tasks in an automated fashion, we are developing an intelligent ultrasonic evaluation system with a multi-axis portable scanner which can do consistent and efficient acquisition and processing of ultrasonic flaw signals. Here we present our efforts to develop of this intelligent system including design of the portable scanner, acquisition and processing of ultrasonic flaw signals, display of pseudo 3-D image of flaws, and classification and sizing of flaws in weldments.

  • This paper describes the design and implementation of a real-time, high-precision vision system and its application to SMT(surface mounting technology) automation. The vision system employs a 32 bit MC68030 as a main processor, and consists of image acquisition unit. DSP56001 DSP based vision processor, and several algorithmically dedicated hardware modules. The image acquisition unit provides 512*480*8 bit image for high-precision vision tasks. The DSP vision processor and hardware modules, such as histogram extractor and feature extractor, are designed for a real-time excution of vision algorithms. Especially, the implementation of multi-processing architecture based on DSP vision processors allows us to employ more sophisticated and flexible vision algorithms for real-time operation. The developed vision system is combined with an Adept Robot system to form a complete SMD system. It has been found that the vision guided SMD assembly system is able to provide a satisfactory performance for SND automation.

  • For a more efficient and economical management of substations of power system areas, the concept of substation automation has been introduced using intelligent and ubiquitous IT techniques. In this paper, ubiquitous IT prototype hardware, functions and communication interfaces on an embedded platform for substation automation are proposed. Also, operating system architecture is suggested for the effective implementation of substation automation.

  • There are several facilities in Kochang distribution test center such as artificial fault generator(AFG), new distribution automation system(NDAS), communication networks (wireless and optic), lumped constant circuit, switches for distribution automation, overhead and underground distribution line.   • The Korea Navy has been making constant efforts to apply M&S (modeling and simulation) to naval ship development, and the generalization of M&S for ship development is a trend. M&S for ship design is used for the V&V (verification and validation) of its design and operation, including design verification and ergonomic design that considers the crew using the Naval Ship Product Model. In addition, many parts of this M&S are repeatedly accomplished regardless of the kinds of ships. This study aims to standardize M&S, which repeatedly applies similar verifications for operation scenarios. A congestion assessment simulation for the major spaces of ships was the subject of the standardization based on the leading research results of various researchers, and a simulation automation solution was suggested. An information model using XML was proposed through the simulation automation concept, and a prototype system based on it was implemented. The usability was shown through a case study that verified the operability performance of the crew messroom.
