Measuring Technique For Acoustic Roughness of Rail Surface With Homogeneous Displacement Sensors (동일 변위센서를 사용한 레일표면 음향조도의 측정방법)

  • Rolling noises during train operation are caused by vibration excited from irregularities of surface roughness between wheel and rail. Therefore, a proper measurement and analysis techniques of acoustic roughness between wheel and rail surface are required for transmission, prediction, and analysis of the train rolling noise. However, since current measuring devices and methods use trolley-based manual handling devices, the measurements induce unstable measuring speed and vibrational interface that increases errors and disturbances. In this paper, a new automatic rail surface exploring platform with a speed controller has been developed for improving measurement accuracy and reducing inconsistency of measurements. In addition, we propose a data integration method of the rail surface roughness with multiple homogeneous displacement sensors and verified the accuracy of the integrated data through standard test-bed railway track investigation.

Development of an Interactive Graphic Software for the Education and Training of Power System Operation and Control (전력계통 운용 및 제어에 대한 교육 및 훈련용 대화식 그래픽 소프트웨어 개발)

  • This paper discusses the development of an interactive and graphic software for the education and training of power system operation and control, especially for students and beginners. This software has a lot of functions for users to simulate the power system operation and control with ease. These functions included in this software are followings. First, this software includes a Graphic User Interface (GUI) - which contains interactive simulation scheme, Windows dialog box, graphic representations, and graphic icons - so that users can handle the software in user-friendly environments. Second, it uses a graphic editor so that users can easily edit the one-line diagram of the power system. Third, it prepares a database system so that users can manage the power system data for simulation easily. Fourth, the application modules included in the software are the Economic Dispatch (ED) and the Automatic Load-Frequency Control (ALFC). These application modules are designed as independent modules. Using the ED module, users can understand the basic concepts of the ED with ease. And using the ALFC module, they can easily acquire the basic understanding of the response of the ALFC between the two-area systems. The proposed software is tested on both the 16 bus and the two-area sample system. The test has confirmed the functions of the developed software. It is anticipated that the software will be useful for the education and training of power system operation and control for the power engineering study at university or for the training of the beginner at power industry.

Field Measurement of Water Discharge by using Surface Image Velocimetry (표면영상유속계(SIV)를 이용한 현장유량측정)

  • Surface Image Velocity (SIV) is a technique which measures the surface velocity of river by using the principle of Paticle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The technique is economical and efficient way to measure velocity in rivers. The present paper aims to apply the technique to three rivers in Korea. It uses pairs of river surface images taken with two digital-cameras and reference points and cross section data which were acquired through plane survey. The performance of SIV was verified with automatic cart on an experimental flume. The test revealed that average error was less than 10 %, which assures that SIV can be used to measure velocity accurately. When it was applied to rivers with low water levels or rough weather condition, however, it showed the error about 20 %. If the problems of SIV technique are settled down, it can be one of the most convenient and economical ways to measure water discharge anytime and anywhere. And then it would be helpful to river management as developing a real-time river information system.

  • This paper is purposed to develop an leakage current detecting system(LCDS) which can prevent electrical fires on breaker capacity expansion as well as ruptures of XL(Extra long) pipelines and power failure by operation of ELB(Earth leakage breaker) at auto water machine in winter. In order to develop LCDS, this paper studied field state investigation, field state experiment, development of leakage alarm system and verification experiments. Field states investigation at livestock companies(10 companies) in cheong-won location to deduce the problems of auto water machine is analyzed. The field state experiment is conducted at B livestock company in cheong won location. The field state experiment method is measured with leakage current when ELB tripped by environment factor(fine, cloudy, and rainy day). The LCDS is developed as MCU(Micro Control Unit) part applied leakage current values at B livestock company. Verification experiments for the leakage current detecting system were conducted by two methods of current supply and field test. Results show that LCDS suggested in this paper are valuable and usable in auto water machine based on environment factor, which will prevent severe damage to human beings and properties and reduce the electrical fires in livestock.

FPGA Implementation of VME System Controller (VME 시스템 제어기의 FPGA 구현)

  • For FA (factory automation) and ATE (automatic test equipment) in the industrial area, the standard bus needs to increase the system performance of multiprocessor environment. VME(versa module european package format) bus is appropriated to the standard bus but has features of small package and low board density. Beside, the density of board and semiconductor have grown to become significant issues that affect development time, project cost and field diagnostics. To fit this trend, in this paper, we composed Revision C.1 (IEEE std. P1014-1987) of the integrated environment for the main function such as arbitration, interrupt and interface between, VMEbus and several control modules Also the designed, VME system controller is implemented on FPGA that can be located even into slot 1. The control and function modules are coded with VHDL mid-fixed description method and then those operations are verified by simulation. As a result of experiment, we confirmed the most important that is the operation of Bus timer about Bus error signal should occur within $56{\mu}m$, and both control and function modules have the reciprocal operation correctly. Thus, the constructed VHDL library will be able to apply the system based VMEbus and ASIC design.

  • The goal of this work is to develop and test a robot-assisted surgery system for spinal fusion. The system is composed of a robot, a surgical planning system, and a navigation system. It plays the role of assisting surgeons for inserting a pedicle screw in the spinal fusion procedure. Compared to conventional methods fer spinal fusion, the proposed surgical procedure ensures minimum invasion and better accuracy by using robot and image information. The robot plays the role of positioning and guiding needles, drills, and other surgical instruments or conducts automatic boring and screwing. Pre-operative CT images and intra-operative fluoroscopic images are integrated to provide the surgeon with information for surgical planning. Several experiments employing the developed robotic surgery system are conducted. The experimental results confirmed that the system is not only able to guide the surgical tools by accurately pointing and orienting the specified location, but also successfully compensate the movement of the patient due to his/her respiration.

Use of $^{99m}TcO_4^-$ Salivary-Thyroid Ratio As a Test of Thyroid Function (갑상선스캔상에서 갑상선섭취율의 추정방법 : 타액선-갑상선계수율)

  • Total 114 patients were studied prospectively with radioiodine uptake (RAIU) and $^{99m}TcO_4^-$ thyroid scan to design a very simple, rapid and inexpensive method measuring the thyroid uptake on thyroid scan. After the RAIU was obtained at 24 hours after P.O. of $^{131}I$, Thyroid scan was performed at 20 minutes after LV. of $^{99m}TcO_4^-$ and the bilateral salivary glands were included in the scan field. Pinhole collimated and computer assisted gamma camera was used. Three regions of interest were set on each salivary gland and on the thyroid by automatic edge detection method. Mean counts per pixel were calculated for each ROI and the salivary-thyroid ratio (STR) was defined as; $$STR(%)=\frac{Mean\;counts\;per\;pixel\;of\;salivary\;glands\;(KC)}{Mean\;counts\;per\;pixel\;of\;thyroid\;gland\;(KC)}\times100$$ 114 cases consisted of 41 normal, 55 hyperthyroid and 18 hypothyroid patients and correlation between the STR and the RAID were evaluated in total and each group. The STR and the RAID showed reverse linear regression in 114 cases (r= -0.8, P=0) and closer correlation was shown in hyperthyroid group (r= -0_9, p=0). Mean STR in normal group was 47.6%. In predicting the RAID by STR, sensitivity and specificity were 88.3% and 64.9% in 114 cases and 95.3% and 83.3% in hyperthyroid group. It is recommended that the STR be used in place of the RAID giving same information at saving time, money and radiation exposure.

A Study on Performance Improvement of Heat Pump Adopting the Hot Gas Bypass Method (고온냉매 우회방법을 적용한 열펌프의 성능 개선 연구)

  • This study experimentally investigates the performance improvement of the heat pump by adopting the hot gas bypass method and using the internal heat exchanger according to the automatic defrost test conditions of ISO 5151 This study compares the hot gas bypass method with the time step method, and investigates effect on outdoor coil fan speed when the hot gas of compressor outlet enter outdoor coil inlet after the frost formation. The tests were made for the fan speeds of the outdoor coil controlled at 90, 60 and 30% of the normal speed together with the case of the stationary fan. The performance of the heat pump is evaluated by variables such as COP, heat capacity, and the average COP during the 210 minutes heating mode. Results show that average COP of the hot gas bypass mettled is $2.2{\sim}6%$ higher than that of the time step method. When the outdoor coil fan speed is 60% (780 rpm) of the normal speed, it shows the best COP and heating capacity.

A Study on the Allowances of Aircraft Landing Distance (항공기 착륙거리의 여유분 산정에 관한 연구)

  • Among the phases of flight operations pilots feel much pressure in landing segment. There is a number of factors affecting landing safety while pilots reduce aircraft speeds and make a touchdown and stop completely. If runway length is sufficient for landing, there maybe is no problem. But it is not the case all the time. So it is necessary to confirm whether landing performance is within limits or not. Required landing distance is actual landing distance demonstrated by flight test pilot plus allowances for average airline pilots. FAR(Federal Aviation Regulations) AFM certification is based upon manual landing for dry and wet runway. Other runway conditions are not the certification basis. JAR dictates even contaminated/slippery runway is included by prescribed allowances. Automatic landing is not certification basis, so actual landing distances are provided. In this paper I would like to analyze distance allowances included in each type of runway condition. In addition there is no regulation about allowances for specific runway condition, I would suggest adequate allowances for that case.

Studies on the Computer Controlled Vibratory Tillage (진동경운(振動耕耘)의 컴퓨터제어(制御)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究))

  • A computer-controlled automatic vibratory tillage test equipment which attained minimum draft and power was developed. Three control program modes were developed and tested with this equipment. A computer simulation investigated the control performances of the above modes with the following primary results. 1) All of the three control modes converged to the same steady state when the velocity ratio was kept constant. 2) The control mode in which the blade frequency was twice of the soil shearing frequency (frequency control mode) showed optimum control with minimum draft and power, and also had greatest velocity convergence. 3) Results of the simulations showed the frequency control mode to have achieved the best control performance. The fluctuation of the draft reduction was less than 10% at various cutting depths and soil moistures.
