Automatic Visual Feature Extraction And Measurement of Mushroom (Lentinus Edodes L.)

  • In a case of mushroom (Lentinus Edodes L.) , visual features are crucial for grading and the quantitative evaluation of the growth state. The extracted quantitative visual features can be used as a performance index for the drying process control or used for the automatic sorting and grading task. First, primary external features of the front and back sides of mushroom were analyzed. And computer vision based algorithm were developed for the extraction and measurement of those features. An automatic thresholding algorithm , which is the combined type of the window extension and maximum depth finding was developed. Freeman's chain coding was modified by gradually expanding the mask size from 3X3 to 9X9 to preserve the boundary connectivity. According to the side of mushroom determined from the automatic recognition algorithm size thickness, overall shape, and skin texture such as pattern, color (lightness) ,membrane state, and crack were quantified and measured. A portion of t e stalk was also identified and automatically removed , while reconstructing a new boundary using the Overhauser curve formulation . Algorithms applied and developed were coded using MS_C language Ver, 6.0, PC VISION Plus library functions, and VGA graphic function as a menu driven way.

  • Several performance factors which have applied to the automatic indexing with controlled vocabulary and text categorization based on Rocchio algorithm were examined, and the simple method for performance improvement of them were tried. Also, results of the methods using Rocchio algorithm were compared with those of other learning based methods on the same conditions. As a result, keeping with the strong points which are implementational easiness and computational efficiency, the methods based Rocchio algorithms showed equivalent or better results than other learning based methods(SVM, VPT, NB). Especially, for the semi-automatic indexing(computer-aided indexing), the methods using Rocchio algorithm with a high recall level could be used preferentially.

  • The delay of cardiac depolarization wave detection in the conventional pacemakers or AICD (automatic implantable cardioverter/ defibrillator, or ICD) has been overlooked. However, it is known that the delay may cause hemodynamic problems and may prevent the proper operation of a new automatic feature, automatic capture verification, that is to be appeared in the near-future devices. In order to reduce the effects of the delay, a delay prevention algorithm was developed and tested by applying three human electrograms. The algorithm set the sensing threshold just above the measured noise level to reduce the detection delay. It is found that the low threshold was able to reduce the delay by 20msec(average) In most cases. The implementation results showed reliability and efficacy of the algorithm, and the algorithm could be applicable to the existing hardware and software of the conventional pacemakers and AICD without any significant modifications.

  • This paper proposes the intelligent shift algorithm for automatic transmissions and develops the simulator for the its optimization and analysis. It provides the comfortable ride to drivers and improves the driving force efficiency without any loss of the performance. In addition, the developed simulator not only cuts the commercialization cost but provides diverse test conditions. The analysis and optimization of the proposed scheme are verified by the developed simulator. As a simple example, the developed simulator verifies the proposed algorithm and shows the comparative result with the existed automatic transmission shift algorithm.

  • This paper proposes a portable cable fault detection system with automatic fault distinction and distance measurement using time-frequency correlation and reference signal elimination method and automatic fault classification algorithm in order to have more accurate fault determination and location detection than conventional time domain refelectometry (TDR) system despite increased signal attenuation due to the long distance to cable fault location. The performance of the developed system method was validated via an experiment in the test field constructed for the standardized performance test of power cable fault location equipments. The performance evaluation showed that accuracy of the developed system is less than 1.34%. Also, an error of automatic fault type and location by detection of phase and peak value through elimination of the reference signal and normalization of correlation coefficient and automatic fault classification algorithm not occurred.

  • Microtunneling techniques play a crucial role in the construction of pipelines. This paper shows the automatic tunneling algorithm of microtunneling system using fuzzy logic technology to assist operators to assure the quality of microtunneling construction. To have effective output value of fuzzy controller, we slightly modified the conventional defuzzification methods. The proposed automatic tunneling algorithm shows good tunneling results comparable with those of experts.

In order to perform real time implementation of the automatic assembling tasks in the complex processes, we have developed an intelligent control algorithm based-on neural networks control theory to enhance the precise motion control. Implementing of the automatic test tasks has been performed by the real-time vision algorithm based-on TMS320C31 DSPs. It distinguishes correctly the difference between the acceptable and unacceptable defective item through pattern recognition of parts by the developed vision algorithm. Finally, the performance of proposed robot vision system has been illustrated by experiment for the similar model of fifth cell among the twelve cell for automatic test and assembling in S company.
