  • Environmental education, which has been thought as the most fundamental solution to environmental problems, should be performed not only in school but also in home and society with a long-term plan. In line with this, environmental-friendly attitude in daily life should be achieved by the perception of the vital environmental principle-new understanding of relation between nature and human being. It is in the city park that children in urban area, who has little opportunity to contact nature, have rather easier access to nature and realize the principle. Despite such great potential, the city park in Korea has not played its pivotal role because of lack of both facilities and activities. In addition, existing studies on this issue are not satisfactory. Therefore, this study is aimed at analyzing and evaluating city parks' environmental education function, potential and problems according to their types, then offering practical reform measures and programs in order to make students better understand the parks as an everyday natural experience spot. These plans are not based on full-scale revision, instead focuses on optimizing potential of existing natural environment and parks. Additionally, activities to experience various nature are included in the study. The value of city park is not decided by the park itself, but by its relationship with visitors. Environmental education function of city park is not confined to building up facilities and providing programs. It also should be complemented and improved, reflecting visitors' opinions and evaluation of environmental education.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the relationship between people's ideological orientation and the populist attitude in terms of demand of populism. The influence of subjective ideology evaluation and political party support on anti-elitism (AE), people centrism (PC) and anti-pluralism (AP) are analyzed in detail. To research this, the socioeconomic factors, democracy recognition and the method of political participation are set as control variables, and the ideologies are classified into extreme conservative, conservative, moderate, progress, and extreme progress. The data are collected through nationwide online survey. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, the powerful affinity between ideological orientation and populist attitude are confirmed. The support for conservative ideology (especially extreme conservative) and the conservative party are affecting the AE and AP, and the ideology of extreme progress and support for the progressive party are influencing the PC and AP. When putting together 3 types of attitude, the conservative (especially extreme conservative) and extreme progressive ideology are the factors that determine the populism attitude. Second, There was no impact of socioeconomic variables except gender (female) and age. Third, populist attitude have a multidimensional nature determined by democratic satisfaction, government trust, external efficacy, voting and non-voting activities.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the design characteristics of external appearances of Hundertwasser's housing projects through both literature review and field study, and to understand how Hundertwasser's architecture philosophy was embodied in the design of external appearances so such projects. The subjects of the analysis are: Hundertwasser House; In the Meadow Bad Soden; The Forest Spiral Darmstadt; and The Green Citadel Magdeburg. The conclusion of the study is as follows. The fundamental architecture philosophy of Hunderwasser is the close linkage between mankind and nature. He has proven, through his four housing projects mentioned above, that it is possible to build houses without destroying and in harmony with nature. Hundertwasser had identified vitality, irregularity and diversity as being the source of beauty of nature. Using the human creativity, he had embodied such elements into his housing projects, thus suggesting an ideal housing environment whereby humanity is respected. Hundertwasser made use of organic curved line and spiral shapes that exist in nature when designing his housing projects. His creativity was articulated through vitality, diversity, and irregularity in colour schemes and a wide range of form. Indeed, he was an architect pursuing the underlying nature of both human and nature. The current living environment in Korea can be characterized as being standardized and desolate, which is a result of housing projects being focused too much on functionalism. Through its analysis of Hundertwasser's housing projects, one of the objectives of this study is to contribute to a new design paradigm being called for today, including for housing projects to be more ecological and environmental-friendly. By motivating architects and appealing to their clients, this study hopes to motivate those involved in various housing projects to think progressively. Such an attitude change could assist in transforming and thus enhancing the overall living environment in Korea.

  • A natural monument is designated and protected as a natural or natural/cultural feature of outstanding or unique value because of its aesthetic qualities or cultural significance. However, in recent years, a natural monument plays a role in satisfying the cultural desire of people. For this reason, the main purpose of this study was to investigate public awareness of natural monuments and to evaluate the attitudes towards nature the visitors to Naejang national park displayed. This study also examined the differences in visitors' level of attitudes towards nature according to their awareness of natural monuments. Population of Macropodous Daphniphyllum (Natural Monument No. 91) and Forest of Japanese Torreyas at Baegyangsa Temple, Jangseong (Natural Monument No. 153) are present in large numbers in Naejang national park. For the research, 240 Naejang national park visitors were surveyed to collect data. Results of this study indicated that fewer than 50% of visitors displayed an appropriate awareness of natural monuments. There were also significant differences in attitudes towards nature according to visitors' awareness of natural monuments. In particular, visitors' awareness of the population of Macropodous Daphniphyllum was relatively lower when compared to that on Forest of Japanese Torreyas at Baegyangsa Temple. In addition, visitors who had a high level of awareness about natural monuments and thought that natural monuments had high cultural value displayed more positive attitudes than those who didn't have good levels of awareness. Based on these findings, this study suggests policy changes to establish development plans of the natural monuments in this area.

  • The purpose of this study is to find Healing elements in the late work of Frank Lloyd Wright. Healing elements are mainly composed of physical, social and psychological functions, which are clearly reflected in holistic attitude and intuition in his Organic theory of Architecture. Late works of Wright since 1935 show particularly shapes of triangle and circle creating the emotional images associated with Hope and Infinity. His image-oriented design attitude is thought to be strongly related to the pursuit of Utopian ideal which means peaceful condition. He regarded it as the consequence of integrity and control, which could be thought as condition of Healing environment. Refuge and Prospect can be complementary elements of spatial expression representing peaceful and dynamic condition of the Nature itself. Five works selected in this case study have unique design ideas related to the function and image of Healing environment interpreted by the criteria of Refuge and Prospect.

  • This paper presents stochastic-statistical dominance rules which eliminate dominated alternatives thereby reduce the number of satisficing alternatives to a manageable size so that the decision maker can choose the best alternative among them when neither the utility function nor the probability distribution of outcomes is exactly known. Specifically, it is assumed that only the characteristics of the utility function and the value function are known. Also, it is assumed that prior probabilities of the mutually exclusive states of nature are not known, but their relative bounds are known. First, the notion of relative risk aversion is used to describe the decision maker's attitude toward risk, which is defined with the acknowledgement that the utility function of the decision maker is a composite function of a cardinal value function and a utility function with-respect to the value function. Then, stochastic-statistical dominance rules are developed to screen out dominated alternatives according to the decision maker's attitude toward risk represented in the form of the measure of relative risk aversion.

  • The Influences of the Ecotourism Motive, on the Attitude, Resource Interpretation and Satisfaction of Tourist Ecotourism has been recently introduced to maintain the relation of mutual dependence between the tourism and the natural environment. However it is adversely used and creates the destruction of ecosystem. It is Important that the ecotourism is a tourism which tourists can experience and enjoy themselves on site rather than a tourism which they only see and hear, understand. It is assumed that a method should be found to maximize toursist' satisfaction and that the presentation of interpretation of the tourism resource may satisfy the tourist's satisfaction. The results offer the suggestion points as follows. 1. By providing the interpretation of tourism resource as well as the recreational object, the ecotourism can be activated with a sound recognition of nature and the reservation of environment, and furthermore, the development policy may be based on not only the area of ecotourism but also all of the tour area. 2. By providing the interpretation service of tourism resource for tourists, the satisfaction can be maximized by the high cognition of tourist. 3. By providing the information about the tourism destination and resource, it will contribute to the side of education, it will contribute the preservation of resource and the reservation of environment. • This article illuminates the relationship between the human being and the surrounding things by referring to the philosophy of Martin Heidegger and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. Criticizing our habitual approaches to apprehending 'what a thing is,' the two thinkers elucidate how 'what a thing is' can be understood only in conjunction with situations in the everyday and how humanity is joined with the qualities of the thing. In addition to the situated-ness of a thing, this article demonstrates the situated-ness of the human being, too, by referring to the notion of the horizon in the tradition of phenomenology. The last part of the paper discusses the basic premises of sustainability in reference to the situated-ness of both things and human beings. Framing natural things such as light as the alternative sources of energy propagandized in sustainability seems progressive. However, this attitude maintains fundamentally the same instrumental attitude we had towards nature, an attitude that has caused the current ecological crisis. By pointing this out, this article seeks to shape a ground for a broad spectrum of sustainability that embraces non-instrumental dimensions such as the practical, the ethical and the spiritual. This article also points out the limits of some of the currently available versions of ecology such as Shallow Ecology and Deep Ecology. In so doing, it seeks to lay out the parameters that any future version of sustainability and ecology needs to address.

  • Jong Soung Kim is a rare architect in Korea who has consistently done research on the idea of the architectural technology for a long time. Therefore in order to understand Kimm's architecture, it is essential to examine his idea on the technology, which reveals the complicated relationship between divers architectural discourses. It is concerned with tectonics which was the most important theoretical movements in German architecture from the nineteenth century, the Mies van der Rohe's idea of the technology which provided the most powerful basis of modern architecture, Miesians' technological discourses which was at the height of prosperity in seventies in America, and High-tech architecture in eighties. Kimm's idea on the technology is defined as follow; 1) Kimm believe that although architecture begins in construction and materiality, it must culminate in artistic form. It's legacy of German tectonics. 2) He accepts Mies' three ideas on the technology. 'Architecture is the spatially apprehended will of the epoch.' 'Technology reveals the true nature of the will of the epoch.' 'We can attain a new beauty with the help of a new technology' 3) He takes a double attitude toward the idea on the technology of Mies followers. He accepts their architectural achievement according to technological progress, but criticize their technology-oriented attitude, deprived of spiritual enrichment. 4) Kimm's idea on the technology is distinguished from that of High-tech architect. The principal criteria exist in their different attitude toward the anonymity and the ethics of technology.
