Strength Analysis of Bolt Joints for an Open Frame Structure (개방형 프레임 구조물의 볼트 조인트 강도해석)

  • An open frame structure is fastened by bolt joints for strength and shock attenuation. Therefore the full finite element model of an open frame structure should be properly modeled including bolt joints for strength analysis of the frames and joint assemblies which are operated under multi-loading conditions such as driving, drop, inertia and torsional loads. Then the joints and frames must satisfy the specified allowable strength constraints. Because the full finite element model has a large number of elements to perform strength analysis, a detailed fine bolt analysis seems to be very expensive. Therefore bolts of the full finite element model are approximately modeled by coupling method to constrain degree of freedoms between adjacent nodes. However, the coupling method can exaggerate stress results at the constrained nodes. Thus a detailed bolt analysis and a theoretical/experiential formula of bolts for a worst bolt joint are performed using reaction force applied both bolt and bolt joint. Finally, the results from the two methods are compared and discussed to verify the safety of the open frame structure.

  • The Main design parameters of ship HVAC systems are pressure drop and noise analysis of ducts. The Noise prediction for HVAC(Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) systems are normally performed by empirical method suggested by NEBB(National Environmental Balancing Bureau, 1994), but NEBB's method is not suitable for the ship HVAC systems. In this paper, numerical analysis methods are used to develop a noise prediction method for the ship HVAC systems, especially for large ducts. To develop regression formula of attenuation of sound pressure level in large duct, Boundary Element Method(BEM) is used. Using dynamic loss coefficient which is suggested by ASHRAE fitting data base and numerical methods of HVAC noise analysis, integrated HVAC noise analysis of Program is developed. The developed program can present pressure drop and noise analysis of the ship HVAC systems. To verify the accuracy and convenience of the developed program, prediction of HVAC system for Semi-Submersible Drilling RIG is carried out and the results are compared with measurement of noise level during sea trial.

  • This paper presents a novel method to determine sound power level(PWL) emitted by a travelling vehicle for road traffic noise simulation. The PWL is evaluated by the equivalent sound pressure level(SPL) measured by close proximity method and the sound power correction factor derived from the maximum SPL measured by pass-by method and the propagation attenuation of vehicle noise during the pass-by measurement. Using the method, we derive the empirical formula for PWL estimation in 1/1-octave and overall frequency bands for 8 vehicles(automobile, SUV, small truck, large bus, trailer, 3 dump trucks) tested at two road surfaces(dense graded asphalt, 30mm transverse tinning concrete) of Korean highway test road. The suggested approach, if securing sufficient data to represent the acoustic characteristics of au vehicle types, has a strong merit to be able to evaluate sound power levels for any combination of vehicle categories and traffic volumes.

Review on $M_L$ Scales in Southern Korea (한반도 남부의 지역규모식 검토)

  • The local magnitude scales yield in the Southern Korean Peninsula following the Richter's original definition are reviewed. In order to compare the previous ML scales, the new distance correction term of ML scale is derived as - log A 0 = 1.017 log ( r/17) + 0.00028 ( r-17)2 + 2 .0 using broadband velocity seismograms from 126 local events occured from 2000 to 2004. The attenuation rate of this formula fall between those of western and eastern North America. This result is in nearly accord with the ML scales proposed by Kim and Park(2002). The differences between various ML scales is owing to insufficient seismic data not to distribute whole area of Southern Korea.

  • A technique for the seismic reliability evaluation of electric power transmission network system(EPTS) was developed to evaluate reliability indices corresponding to the whole network system and to each node within. A network model with nodes and links for EPTS was established, and a seismic substation fragility curve obtained from seismic fragilities of power system facilities was derived. A point source model, the doubly truncated Gutenberg-Richter relationship, and earthquake intensity attenuation formula was applied to simulate seismic events. Using Monte-Carlo simulation method, the seismic reliability of EPTS was evaluated and, it appeared that seismic effect on EPTS of korea has to be considered.

Control of Short-period and Solitary Waves Using Two-rowed Impermeable Rectangular Submerged Dike (2열 불투과성 사각형 잠제를 이용한 단주기파랑 및 고립파의 제어)

  • This study numerically investigates the wave control of 2-rowed Impermeable Rectangular Submerged Dike(IRSD) with an object of how to control short-period and solitary waves simultaneously based on the Bragg resonance phenomenon that elevates the wave control performance. The boundary integral method using Green formula and the 3-D one-field Model for immiscible TWO-Phase flows (TWOPM-3D) by 3-D numerical wave flume have been used for the numerical predictions for short-period and solitary waves, respectively. These numerical models were verified through the comparisons with the previously published numerical results by other researchers. Through the parametric tests of numerical experiments for short-period waves, an optimum model of 2-rowed IRSD of a lowest transmission coefficient has been found. Furthermore, the performances of 3-D wave control for solitary waves were evaluated for the various free board, crown widths and gap distance between dikes, and have been compared with those of a single-rowed IRSD. Numerical results show that a 2-rowed IRSD with a less cross sectional area than 1-rowed one improves the wave attenuation performances when it is compared to that of single-rowed IRSD. Within the test frequency ranges of the numerical simulations conducted in this study, 2-rowed IRSD with an optimum gap distance shows an outstanding improvement of the wave attenuation up to 58% compared to that of single-rowed IRSD.

Computational Analysis on the Noise Characteristics of Ship Large Duct (선박용 대형 덕트의 소음 특성 전산해석 연구)

  • Noise prediction for HVAC(Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning) systems are normally performed by empirical method suggested by NEBB(National Environmental Balancing Bureau, 1994). However, the method is not suitable for large ducts in ships. In this paper, computational analysis methods are used to develop a noise prediction method for the large ducts in ships. To develop regression formula of attenuation of sound pressure level in large ducts, Boundary Element Method(BEM) is used. BEM and Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) are applied to the analysis of flow-induced noise in ducts with stiffeners inside. Loud noise above 100 dB can be generated in some cases. Breakout noises of large ducts are also analyzed by using BEM and Finite Element Method(FEM). The acoustic pressure level shows about 10-15dB difference between inside and outside of the duct. Utilizing the results of this study, it is expected that shipyard planners can predict noise of the HVAC system for ships.

Evaluation of Electromagnetic Shielding Performance of SiC and Graphite Mixed Mortar (SiC 및 흑연 혼입 모르타르의 전자파 차폐 성능 평가)

  • Blocking electromagnetic waves on the exterior walls of buildings effectively reduces the intensity of electromagnetic fields in buildings, which leads to attenuation of electromagnetic disturbances, so there is a great interest in developing technologies. In this study, SiC by-products and graphite generated in the semiconductor field were selected and mixed into mortar after pretreatment such as pulverization to evaluate their physical properties and electromagnetic wave shielding performance. Considering the economic efficiency of each shielding material, only 10% volume of the outermost side of the experiment was mixed with each shielding material to evaluate the shielding performance. The shielding performance was predicted when the experiment was manufactured by mixing the shielding material with the entire volume of the experiment using the shielding effect evaluation formula. The results of the experiment showed that the shielding performance was up to 20 dB when SiC grains were mixed with shielding materials, the shielding performance was up to 18 dB when graphite powder was mixed with shielding materials, and the shielding performance was up to 28 dB when SiC powder was mixed with shielding materials, and the shielding performance was close to 30 dB, which is known to have a shielding rate of 99.9%.
