  • Convergence characteristics and efficiency of three implicit approximate factorization schemes(ADI, DDADI and MAF) are examined using 2-Dimensional compressible upwind Navier-Stokes code. Second-order CSCM(Conservative Supra Characteristic Method) upwind flux difference splitting method with Fromm scheme is used for the right-hand side residual evaluation, while generally first-order upwind differencing is used for the implicit operator on the left-hand side. Convergence studies are performed using an example of the flow past a NACA0012 airfoil at steady transonic flow condition, i. e. Mach number 0.8 at $1.25^{\circ}$ angle of attack. The results were compared with other computational results in order to validate the current numerical analysis. The results from the implicit AF algorithms were compared well in low surface with the other computational results; however, not well in upper surface. It might be due to lack of the grid around the shock position. Because the algorithm minimizes the errors of the approximate decomposition, the improved convergence rate with MAF were observed.

  • The objective of this study is to increase lift and decrease drag of an airfoil by delaying flow separation with piezo-ceramic actuators. The airfoil used is NACA 0012 and the chord length is 30cm. An experiment is performed at the freestream velocity of 15m/s at which the Reynolds number is $3{\times}10^5$. Seven rectangular actuators are attached to the airfoil surface and move up and down based on the electric signal. At the attack angle of $16^{\circ}$, the separation point is delayed downstream due to momentum addition induced by the movement of the actuators. Drag and lift are measured using an in-house 2-dimensional load cell and the surface pressures are also measured. Lift is increased by 10%, drag is reduced by 50%, and the efficiency is increased to 170%. The flow fields with and without control are visualized using the smoke-wire and tuft techniques.

  • Cavitation erosion-corrosion implies damage to materials due to the shock pressure or shock wave that results when bubbles form and collapse at a metal surface within a liquid. If the liquids corrosive to the material, a condition typically encountered in industry, the component materials may suffer serious damage by a combination of mechanical and electrochemical attack. To suppress cavitation erosion as well as cavitation erosion-corrosion to hydraulic equipments, innovations such as the improvement in the geometric design of the equipment or the selection of suitably resistant construction materials are necessary. This study was tested by using the piezoelectric vibrator with 20kHz, 24${\mu}$m for cavitation generation. And also, the vibratory cavitation erosion-corrosion tests on commercial mild steel SS41were carried out. We carefully observed the erosion pattern and surface photography. • In the present research, a parametric study of aerodynamic characteristics for multi-element airfoils is performed. The major geometric parameters of interest are the gap distance between airfoils and relative deflection angle of slat/flap. The present results are mainly obtained by using inviscid flow calculation, and the aerodynamic characteristics are focused on the surface pressure distribution and the lifts. The results of the present research may be used as not only qualitative data but also quantitative data for small angle of attack flows, where the viscous effect does not play major role in terms of surface pressure distribution and lifts. A further research in this subject including viscous calculation and more geometric parameters is to be performed in the future.

  • For nuclear concrete structures on the coast, the prevention and management against salt damage is needed because they are being under the influence of the sea water at all times. In general, the deterioration of the concrete is generated in concrete surface firstly and then extended into concrete gradually as its service life increases. Therefore, the protective layer on the concrete surface is needed to establish and manage the durability of concrete. To enhance the durability performance of the existing and new concrete, the development and application of a high-performance penetration sealer is needed. The sealer has to have the functions that are able to prevent the attack of the moisture, carbon dioxide, and harmful substance from the outside. Therefore, the aim of this study is to development of a sealer for the long service-life and waterproof performance of a nuclear concrete structures.

  • This work presents a numerical procedure to optimize the shape of three-dimensional channel with angled ribs mounted on one of the walls to enhance turbulent heat transfer. The response surface method is used as an optimization technique with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis of flow and heat transfer. SST turbulence model is used as a turbulence closure. The width-to-height ratio of the rib, rib height-to-channel height ratio, pitch-to-rib height ratio and attack angle of the rib are chosen as design variables. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of heat-transfer and friction-loss related terms with weighting factor. D-optimal experimental design method is used to determine the data points. Optimum shapes of the channel have been obtained for the weighting factors in the range from 0.0 to 1.0.

  • By the high-temperature pad conditioning process: The slurry residues in pores and grooves of the polishing pad were clearly removed. These clear pores and enlarged grooves made the slurry attack the oxide surface. The changed slurry properties by high-temperature pad conditioning process made the oxide surface hydro-carbonate to be removed easily.

  • Hard coatings playa continuously increasing role in the field of tribology as well as for decorative applications. In both areas they are often also exposed to corrosive media. While especially hard nitride coatings show a high corrosion resistance for themselves, hard $coating_strate systems may suffer from a severe corrosion attack due to the defects in the coating structure (pores, pinholes) resulting from the PVD-typical film morphology. While a huge number of investigations cover the tribological properties, only limited studies deal with the corrosion behavjour of coating substrate systems and attempts are made to improve their corrosion resistance. The present paper shortly describes the corrosion mechanisms and repots characteristic examples of the system behaviour. Special emphasis is laid on recent investigations to improve the corrosion resistance by alloying, interlayers or multilayered coating structures.es.

  • The effect of europium-driven corrosion behavior of Alloy 709 in FLiNaK molten salt was investigated by static immersion tests at 700 ℃. It was found that the corrosion of Alloy 709 increased after the addition of EuF3, even though the standard reduction potential of Eu(III)/Eu(II) was negative than those of Fe(II)/Fe, Ni(II)/Ni and Cr (II)/Cr. The presence of Eu(III) led to deeper corrosion attack layers and more pits on the steel surface in comparison with corrosion in blank FLiNaK. However, the addition of Eu(III) seemed to have a role in reducing surface cracking that was explored in corrosion by blank FLiNaK, which depended on Eu(III) concentration.

  • This study is to evaluate the effect of chemical attack on durability and deterioration of lining concrete in tunnel. Surface examination, nondestructive inspection, uniaxial compressive strength test, carbonation test, chloride diffusion test, micro-structural analysis were performed to analyze the deterioration of lining concrete in tunnel constructed 70 years ago. From surface examination results, the tunnel had been repaired and reinforced in several times. It has many cracks, water-leakage, efflorescence and exploitation. Compressive strengths obtained from nondestructive inspection and uniaxial compressive strength test have measured $17.5{\sim}34.7MPa$, and $12.8{\sim}40.3MPa$, respectively. Carbonation depth specimen cored from concrete lining has ranged from 3mm to 27mm. From chloride diffusion test, most specimens have low permeability. And the XRD analysis was able to detect ettringite and thaumasite, which were confirmed by SEM and EDS results to be the causes for the deterioration of lining concrete.
