  • Ultra thin tantalum nitride (TaNx) films with various thicknesses (10 nm to 40 nm) have been deposited by rf magnetron sputtering technique on glass substrates. The as deposited films were systematically characterized by several analytical techniques such as X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, UV-Vis-NIR double beam spectrophotometer and four point probe method. From the XRD results, the as deposited films are in amorphous nature, irrespective of the film thicknesses. The films composition was changed greatly with increasing the film thickness. SEM micrographs exhibited the densely pack microstructure, and homogeneous surface covered by small size grains at lower thickness deposited films. The surface roughness of the films was linearly increases with increasing the films thickness, consequently the transmittance decreased. The absorption edge was shifted towards higher wavelength as the film thickness increases.

  • In thisy study the quantities of the inorganic ions in the precipitation of the rural area of Choongbook Province are analyzed. The sampling period of the study was between February and June of 1991. Anion concentrations were determined by ion chromatography. Metal cation concentrations were analyzed by atomic absorption spectroscopy. Nessler's reagent was used for ammonium ion. The average pH of the rain was 4.6. Occasionally, however, acidic rain of pH 3.5 was found. The ratio of anion/cation was 0.57, where the concentrations of anion was much smaller than the same of the cation. This was attributed to the high concentrations of the ammonium ion. Ion concentrations were higher in February and March than other months. Also, it was found that the $2[SO_4^{2-} + [NO_3^-]-[NH_4^+]$ gave the highest correlation with the pH values.

  • X-ray astronomy deals with measurements of the electromagnetic radiation in the energy range of $E\~0.1-100 keV (\lambda\~0.12-120{\AA})$. The wavelength of X-ray is comparable to the size of atoms, so that the photons in the X-ray range are usually produced and absorbed by the atomic processes. Since the launch of the first X-ray astronomy satellite 'Uhuru' in 1970, technological advances in a launch capability and a detection capability make X-ray astronomy one of the most rapidly evolving fields of astronomical research. Particularly, a spectral resolving power $E/{\Delta}E$ has been increased by an order of 2 - 3 (in the energy range of 0.1 - 10 keV) during the past 30years. In this paper, I briefly review a developing process of the resolving power and spectroscopic techniques. Then I describe important emission/absorption lines in X-ray astronomy, as well as diagnostics of gas property with line parameters.

  • For the purpose of evaluating metal content in human hair, the auther carried out the comparative study of 55 samples of exposed residents surrounding lead & copper smelter and 55 samples of non-exposed. Hair samples were stingently washed before analysis for lead and copper by atomic absorption spectroscopy. The results obtained were as follows 1. Hair samples of exposed residents contained more lead than non-exposed but showed no significance statistically (P>0.05). 2. Also copper in the hair of exposed residents showed more content than non-exposed but no significance statistically (P>0.05). 3. Lead and copper in the hair of exposed residents revealed a high degree of correlation (r = 0.8442, p<0.005). 4. Lead did not accumulate in hair with age in two group residents and copper in the hair of non-exposed residents maintained in all age. 5. The content of lead and copper in the hair of two group residents showed very considerable variation from individual to individual.

  • Isoindigo based small molecules have attracted much attention in the field of optoelectronic devices due to their broad absorbance and high charge carrier mobilitiies. Herein, we investigate the field effect transistor characteristics of a series of isoindigo based donor-acceptor-donor (D-A-D) small molecules containing a variable number of thiophene moieties (named IDT, ID2T, and ID3T) which form pi-bridges between the D and A moieites and a different donor moiety (IDED). In order to improve the carrier mobility, 1-chloronaphthalene (CN) and 1,8-diiodooctane (DIO) as solvent additives were used. The film morphology, crystallinity and optical properties of the materials processed with various concentrations of solvent additives were investigated through atomic force microscopy (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-vis absorption spectroscopy.

  • We report a new method of fabrication of polydiacetylene nanowire using liquid bridge-mediated nanotransfer molding (LB-nTM), a direct patterning method for the formation of two- or three-dimensional structures with feature sizes between tens of nanometers and tens of micron over large areas with various materials from a molder to a substrate via a liquid bridge between them. First, we fabricate assembled diacetylene monomer nanowire on the substrate then make it polymerize using 254nm UV-light irradiation. The Polydiacetylene nanowires have been investigated by UV-visible absorption spectroscopy, atomic force microscopy (AFM), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

  • The ring formation and electronic properties of furan adsorbed on graphene layers grown on 6H-SiC(0001) has been investigated using atomic force microscopy (AFM), near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectra for the C K-edge, and high resolution photoemission spectroscopy (HRPES). Moreover, we observed that furan molecules adsorbed on graphene could be used for chemical functionalization via the lone pair of electrons on the oxygen group, allowing chemical doping. We also found that furan spontaneously formed rings with one of three different bonding configurations and the electronic properties of the ring formed by furan on graphene can be described using by AFM, NEXAFS and HRPES, respectively.

  • We confirm that when A-type zeolite supporting silver lone is placed in ion-exchanged distilled water, silver ions is eluted and eluted silver ions generates hydroxyl-radical (.OH) and hydro-radical (.H) continuously, the amount of those is proportion to the silver-ion concentration. Hydroxyl-radical is not generated by super-oxide anion-radical (.O2) but by directly dissolved water. To know such a above discussed mechanism, we prepare A-type zeolite supporting silver ions, and measure the amount of the eluted silver tons by atomic absorption spectroscopy and the generated radical by ESR The radical generated by A-type zeolite supporting silver ions is discussed in the application of elecrical and electronic materials.

  • The interaction of oxygen with a Ni(100) surface has been investigated using X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS) and Near-Edge X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (NEXAFS) technique. Below 200L oxygen exposure, molecular oxygen was dissociated to atomic oxygen. Increasing oxygen exposure, -1s binding energy shifted from 531.0 eV to 533.0 eV due to molecular adsorption. The presence of molecular oxygen species was confirmed by NEXAFS. Molecular oxygen adsorbed on Ni(100) was oriented perpendicular to the surface. Upon heating over 150K molecular adsorbed oxygen surface was also analyzed using NEEXFS.

  • The odor removal of landfill site leachate was carried out using pyroligenous liquid. The constituent elements of pyroligenous liquid and leachate were also analysed, employing Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy(AAS). Before order removal, the heavy metal ions such as Pb, Zn, Cu, Mn, Fe and Ni, in pyroligenous liquid were detected with ultra trace level. However, in this liquid, other metal ions such as As, Hg and Cd were not observed. The optimum condition for removing odor fromthe leachate was observed in 15 times dilution of pyroligenous liquid. Also, the degree of outlet odor was 1. Furthermore, the concentration of odor constituent compounds, e.g. $H_2S, NH_3, NH_2$ and $CO_2$ in the leachate was remarkably reduced. Finally, water quality of the leachate was improved.
