피트(peat) 혼합담체를 이용한 저농도 질소산화물(NOx) 제거특성 (Removal Characteristics of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx) in Low Concentration using Peat-Mixed Media)

  • In this study, removal characteristics of nitrogen oxides $(NO_x)$ from road transport by using peat as the packing media for biodegradation have been investigated in the long term. Physicochemical and biological treatment of peatmixed media eliminates any requirement to use chemical substances and also facilitates the biodegradable actions of microorganism. Safe biodegradation of pollutants, no need to apply additional microbes owing to their active growth, and no generation of secondary pollutants were found in this experiment. It was concluded that average removal efficiencies of nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide $(NO_2)$ were 80% and 97% respectively with respect to the linear velocity 35~40 mm/s and 0.3 ppm ozone concentration in the long period operation. Inflow concentration of nitric oxide over 0.05 ppm was suitable when pretreated with ozone. Non-ozone stage was performed with linear velocity 20~100 mm/s and then the average removal efficiency of nitric oxide and nitrogen dioxide were 38% and 94% respectively. Other results showed that the apparent static pressure was raised with increases in applied water content and aerial velocity in mixed media during fan operation.

도로변 측정을 이용한 2행정 스쿠터의 대기오염물질 배출특성 연구 (Emission Characteristics of a Passing Two-stroke Scooter using at a Roadside Measurement)

  • Although a scooter is a convenient transportation means for a short distance traveling with a light package in the congested urban center, it might be one of the significant sources of air pollutants to which many people can easily be exposed during its passing-by. In this paper, we measured concentrations of gases and particles emitted from a scooter at roadside with no other traffic. To understand the characteristics of scooter emissions with respect to driving speed (idling, 30 km/h) at the roadside, total particle number concentration, particle size distribution, average surface area of particles deposited in the alveolar region, and concentrations of black carbon, CO, and $NO_x$ were measured. The concentrations of the particle number, surface area of deposited particles, CO, and $NO_x$ were highly fluctuated in the scooter's idling condition. The trends of particle number concentration, CO, and $NO_x$ generation were similar to one another. When the scooter started to move, all of $NO_x$, CO and particle number concentrations increased and after it passed by at the speed of 30 km/h, the concentration peaks of the particles and gases appeared at the same time. Unimodal size distribution with ~70 and ~93 nm mode diameters was observed for the idling and cruising condition, respectively. From this work, we found that emission from a passing vehicle could be characterized using a roadside monitoring technique.

고속도로 터널내부 공기 중 휘발성 유기화합물의 농도 측정 (Measurement of Volatile Organic Compounds Concentrations in the Air of a Highway Tunnel)

  • In this study, a total of 10 volatile organic compounds (VOCs) including BTEX were determined in the inside and outside of a highway thnnel in order to evaluate the emission profile of automobile exhaust with respect to the concentrations, relative ratio and correlation coefficient of target analytes. In addition to VOCs, CO $CO_2 and NO_2$ were measured simultaneously. The results of this study indicated that the most abundant compound was toluene followed by benzene and m+p-xylenes, and the correlation coefficients between VOCs except styrene were higher than 0.96. The concentration ratio of toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes with respect to benzene measured in the inside of tunnel was 1.5, 0.13, 0.74, respectively. Such ratios were found to be very similar to those measured in tunnels in the USA.

창호일체형 환기시스템 및 중앙냉방시스템 연계 운영에 대한 수치해석적 연구 (Numerical Analysis on the Coupled Operation of Ventilation Window System and Central Cooling System)

  • This study evaluated indoor environmental characteristics in an office room equipped both with ventilation window system and central cooling system. Fresh air is supplied only by the central cooling system whereas indoor air is discharged outside through both ceiling diffuser and a ventilation window system. Numerical study is conducted by changing the volumetric flow rates of exhaust ports of each system. For estimating the performance of this coupled system, $CO_2$ concentration and Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) were calculated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation. The more the ceiling diffuser exhausts indoor air, the more the $CO_2$ concentration decreases. However, when the ventilation window system exhausts more indoor air, thermal comfort level gets improved in the office room with cooling system. Therefore, when the ventilation window system is operated, the coupled operation with central cooling system should be considered for enhancing indoor air quality and thermal comfort, together.

한국 해남 농경지와 대기간의 에너지와 이산화탄소의 지표 교환 (Surface Exchange of Energy and Carbon Dioxide between the Atmosphere and a Farmland in Haenam, Korea)

  • 육상생태계와 하층 대기와의 상호작용 및 환경변화에 대한 생태계의 반응을 정량적으로 이해하기 위하여 2002년 7월부터 논과 밭이 혼합되어 있는 해남(FK) 관측지에서 이산화탄소 관측이 이루어지고 있다. 관측 초기에는 안정된 자료 확보를 위하여 에디 공분산 시스템의 유지 관리를 중점적으로 추진하였다. 30분 평균된 이산화탄소 평균 농도와 순 생태 교환량(Net Ecosystem Exchange)은 뚜렷한 일변화와 함께 계절적인 차이를 나타내었다. 낮 시간의 이산화탄소 플럭스는 8월에 최대 1.0mg $CO_2$, m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$의 흡수율이 관측되었고, 야간에는 최대 0.3mg $CO_2$ m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ 정도의 이산화탄소가 대기중으로 방출되었다. 이산화탄소 흡수량과 방출량 모두 점차적으로 감소하여 겨울철에는 거의 0에 가까운 값이거나 0.05mg $CO_2$, m$^{-2}$ s$^{-1}$ 보다 작은 방출율을 나타내었다. 해남 플럭스 관측지역은 7월부터 9월까지 이산화탄소의 상대적으로 강한 흡원으로 작용하여 일 최대 22g $CO_2$m$^{-2}$ 정도의 이산화탄소를 흡수하였다. 이후 10월부터 12월까지는 약한 발원으로 작용하였는데, 일 평균 2g $CO_2$ m$^{-2}$ 정도의 이산화탄소를 방출하였다. 해남 관측지에서의 환경 변화에 대한 생태계의 반응 및 격년 변동 등에 대한 정량적 연구를 위하여 장기 관측은 지속적으로 이루어질 것이며, 심도 있는 분석과 교환 메커니즘의 이해를 위해 토양 및 식물과 관련된 집중 관측과 단기 실험들이 뒤따라야 하겠다.적인 자극으로부터 개체들에게 더 많은 스트레스를 유발시켜 폐사율을 높일 수 있는 열악한 환경을 조성할 수 있음을 시사하였다.s the strategies on the revitalization and enhancement of small-sized retailers" productivities.에 종양을 가진 환자 치료 시 더욱 질 높은 방사선 치료가 실현될 것으로 기대한다. 30∼40% 정도 느렸고, 퍼레니얼라이그라스도 퍼레니얼라이그라스 100% 단일종류에 비해 20∼30%정도 늦었다. 따라서, 뗏장 재배시 여러 종류의 초종을 천편일률적으로 혼합하여 파종하는 것은 바람직하지 않으며, 컨셉에 따라 적절하게 초종 및 품종을 선택해서 사용하는 것이 필요하다. 5. 뗏장의 뿌리 형성 능력은 퍼레니얼라이그라스가 가장 좋았고, 가장 저조한 초종은 켄터키블루그라스였다. 톨훼스큐는 켄터키블루그라스와 퍼레니얼라이그라스의 중간정도로 나타났다. 혼합구의 뗏장 형성 능력은 초종의 혼합비에 따라 뿌리 형성력 차이가 다르게 나타났는데, 특히 퍼레니얼라이그라스 혼합비율이 많을수록 뿌리 형성 능력은 증가하였다. 6. 뗏장 수확시 잔디 품질은 단일 초종구의 품질이 혼합구에 비해 양호하였는데 가장 우수한 초종은 켄터키블루그라스였고, 톨훼스큐는 켄터키블루그라스 다음으로 중간정도, 그리고 퍼레니얼라이그라스는 가장 저조하였다. 켄터키블루그라스는 균일한 잔디 면, 고밀도 및 예초 후 상태가 우수한 특성으로 품질이 양호하였고, 퍼레니얼라이그라스의 품질이 저조하였던 것은 초장이 길어 잔디 면이 누운 상태로 나타나 균일도 저하 및 예초 후 품질이 켄터키블루그라스나 톨훼스큐 보다 떨어지기 때문이다. 그리고 혼합구의 품질은 여러 종류가 혼합됨으로 인해 색상 및 밀도의 균일도가 떨어지고, 또한 예초 시 물결처럼 불균일하게 깎여 잔디 표면이 불량하였기 때문이었다. 7. 골프장이나 경기장 기본 설계 시 초기

  • A reduced chemical kinetic mechanism is developed in order to predict the flame phenomena in premixed $CO/H_2/Air$ flames at atmospheric pressure, aimed at studying the coal gas combustion for the IGCC applications. The reduced mechanism is systematically derived from a full chemical kinetic mechanism involving 11 reacting species and 66 elementary reactions. This mechanism consists of four global steps, and is capable of explicitly calculating the concentration of 7 non-steady species and implicitly predicting the concentration of 3 steady state species. The fuel blend contains two fuels with distinct thermochemical properties, whose contribution to the radical pool in the flame is different. The flame speeds predicted by the reduced mechanism are in good agreement with those by the full mechanism and experimental results. In addition, the concentration profiles of species and temperature are also in good agreement with those by the full mechanism.

한국 활엽수림의 이산화탄소 농도의 연직구조와 저류항 (Vertical Profiles of CO2 Concentrations and CO2 Storage in Temperate Forest in Korea)

  • Micrometeorological fluxes measured over a tall forest in a complex terrain are difficult to interpret. $CO_2$ storage often makes significant contributions to net ecosystem exchange of $CO_2$ (NEE) in early morning and during nighttime due to calm and stable conditions. We measured the above-canopy $CO_2$ flux along with its concentration profiles at eight levels within and above the canopy to evaluate $CO_2$ storage term. Our question is whether or not the $CO_2$ storage term can be estimated accurately from a single level measurement of $CO_2$ concentration in a complex terrain. Our objectives are (1) to document vertical profiles of $CO_2$ concentration and (2) to compare the diurnal and seasonal variations of $CO_2$ storages estimated from single and multi-level $CO_2$ concentration data. Seasonally averaged Diurnal variations of $CO_2$ concentration ranged from 398 to 455 ppm near the forest floor at 0.1 m whereas they ranged from 364 to 395 ppm at 40 m in the atmosphere. The diurnal variation of vertical profiles of $CO_2$ concentration shows very interesting features with season. At all eight levels, diurnal variation of $CO_2$ concentration showed little change in winter. In spring, the diurnal variations of $CO_2$ concentration at 8 levels showed three distinct groups of layers with height: the first layer: 0.1m (near surface), second layer: 1.0 m and 4.0m (below canopy) and the third layer: 7.4m to 40.7 m (near canopy and above). In summer, these three groups of layers were further separated with larger variations whereas such distinction became smaller in fall. The diurnal variation of $CO_2$ concentration in the first three layers near surface always showed higher concentration with larger variability. Typically, $CO_2$ concentration showed peaks in early morning and in the evening. After the evening peak, $CO_2$ concentration gradually increased except for those near the surface (i.e., 0.1, 1.0 and 4.0 m) where the concentrations actually decreased. We suspect that this could be attributed to the drainage flow of $CO_2$ along the hill slope from the headwater to downstream, which is not taken into account for net ecosystem $CO_2$ exchange. In comparison to the results of other studies, the distinct and different vertical structures of $CO_2$ concentrations observed at our site may be due to complex terrain and weak turbulent mixing under calm conditions at the site. The annual mean of diurnal variation of $CO_2$ storage flux from single level ranged from -0.6 to $0.9{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$ and from multi-level from -1.2 to $1.0{\mu}\;{\mu}mol\;m^{-2}s^{-1}$. When compared against the results from the multi-level concentrations, the storage flux estimated from a single-level concentration was generally adequate except for specific hours near sunrise and sunset. 서울시 지하역사 실내오염물질 농도자료의 통계분석을 통한 실내공기질 특성 평가 (Evaluation on Indoor Air Quality by Statistical Analysis of Indoor Air Pollutants Concentration in a Seoul Metropolitan Underground Railway Station)

  • The objective of this study was to explore the characteristics of concentration of indoor air pollutants, such as $PM_{10}$, $CO_2$, and $NO_2$, measured by tele-monitoring system in a Seoul Metropolitan underground railway station from January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2012. The annual average concentration of indoor air pollutants actually varied over a wide range and was found to exhibit marked variation with time and measurement sites (tunnel inlet, platform, and concourse). After installing platform screen doors, the average $PM_{10}$ concentration on platform and concourse was decreased by 43.8% and 31.2%, respectively during the study periods. The relationship between the concentration of $PM_{10}$ and meteorological parameters (relative humidity and rainfall) or the Asian dust events was regarded as statistically significant. The correlations between the number of boarding/alighting passengers and $PM_{10}$, $CO_2$, and $NO_2$ were calculated. A p-value of less than 0.01 was regarded as significant except $NO_2$. The I/O ratio of $PM_{10}$ concentration was elevated after a congested time (about 08:00 am). The average I/O ratios of $NO_2$ were observed in concourse and platform on 03:00 am with $1.76{\pm}0.91$ and $1.50{\pm}0.51$, respectively. The average daily variation of standard excess rate of $PM_{10}$ and $NO_2$ concentration in concourse and platform was investigated. The highest standard excess rate was observed on 21:00 (09:00 pm).

Rapid Changes in CO Concentration Levels at Seven Roadside Locations in Seoul before and after 2000

  • Concentrations of carbon monoxide (CO) in air were analyzed from seven urban roadside (U-RS) stations in Seoul, Korea over an 11-year period (1998-2008). As noticeable changes in CO levels coincided with the Natural Gas Vehicle Supply (NGVS) program in the year 2000, its concentration data were examined between 1998-2000 (period I) and 2001-2008 (period II). The mean values of CO from all 7 stations for the whole study period were recorded as $1.19{\pm}0.22$ ppm with large drops in its mean from $1.83{\pm}0.43$ ppm in period I to $0.94{\pm}0.21$ ppm in period II. As such, CO levels between the two periods undertook the mean reduction rate of $46.9{\pm}16.2%$ (range of 18.3 to 59.9%). According to the analysis of longterm trends of CO, its concentrations in the U-RS stations decreased very rapidly with the annual mean reduction rate of 9.5% $yr^{-1}$. A line of evidence collected in this study suggests that the implementation of the NGVS program has been quite effective to induce the alterations in CO levels in all urban roadside locations throughout the city of Seoul.

2010년 서울에서 관측한 황사와 연무사례의 물리, 화학, 광학적 특성비교 (Physical, Chemical and Optical Properties of an Asian Dust and Haze Episodes Observed at Seoul in 2010)

  • This study investigated physicochemical and optical characteristics for three episodes of Asian dust, stagnant haze and long-range transport haze and for one clean day. $PM_{10}$ mass concentration during Asian dust and two haze days was increased by 2~9 times compared to that of clean episode. During Asian dust episode, coarse particle concentration was increased and the mass concentration of calcium in a coarse mode ($1.8{\sim}10{\mu}m$) was $5.4{\mu}g/m^3$ which was 7 times higher than that of clean episode. The calcium was presented as a form of $CaCO_3$ in a coarse mode. During the two haze episodes, fine particle (< $1.8{\mu}m$) concentration was increased and secondary inorganic pollutants such as sulfate, ammonium and nitrate composed of 90% of the total ions. $(NH_4)_2SO_4$ and $NH_4NO_3$ were dominant in a fine mode for stagnant haze episode. But they were the most dominant form in both fine mode and coarse mode for long-range transport haze episode. According to the optical properties for each episode (Asian dust, stagnant haze and long-range transport haze) were classified as dust, black carbon and mixture, respectively.
