  • A dual-mode asymmetric canonical filter is widely used in an input demultiplexer for satellite transponder. This paper deals with a simple synthesis method fur an asymmetric canonical filter. The coupling matrix of an asymmetric canonical filter is obtained by applying plane rotation technique to the coupling matrix of a symmetric canonical filter. This paper gives a list of pivots and rotation angles to obtain the coupling matrix of asymmetric canonical structure filters. The coupling matrix of 8th and 10th order asymmetric canonical filter is obtained by this proposed method. It is shown that the frequency response of asymmetric canonical filter is identical to that of symmetric canonical filter.

  • We propose a wavelength filter based on long-range surface plasmon-polaritons (LR-SPP) supported by a asymmetric doubleelectrode LR-SPP structure. For the case of the asymmetric double-layered LR-SPP waveguide, LR-SPPs exist with a much broader range of index mismatches between core and clad materials. Thus, the asymmetric double-electrode LR-SPP waveguide is adequate to form a plasmonic band-gap device as we report in this paper by studying Bragg-reflection wavelength filter based on it. The structure for wavelength filter operating telecommunications wavelength is designed by using the method of line (MoL) and the transfer matrix method. The fabricated device shows a relatively high extinction ratio of 50 dB with a bandwidth of 2 nm, and the performance is very consistent with numerical simulations.

  • This paper proposes the detection algorithm for switch open fault of asymmetric 6-phase PMSM based on stationary reference frame dq-axis currents. In this paper, target motor has an asymmetric structure in which two upper three windings have an electrical phase difference of 30° and a neutral point is separated. As a result, dual 3-phase PWM inverters and the detection techniques due to open failures of switch are definitely required. In this paper, the dual dq-axis current control method is used for driving the asymmetric 6-phase PMSM and the open fault switch should be detected by using variable all pass filter and low pass filter in order to detect the current amplitude. The effectiveness and usefulness of the proposed method is verified by several experiments.

  • An analytic design formula is proposed for a TEM mode dielectric bandpass filter with attenuation poles at desired frequencies in the stop band. In order to sustain the constant ripple in the passband due to attenuation poles, the initial resonant frequencies of the various resonators adopted in a filter with attenuation poles are newly calculated. The proposed design theory is verified by designing various bandpass filters with attenuation poles in the stop band.

  • In this paper, Characteristics responded to frequency of a band-pass filter with admittance inverters(J-inverters) is considered. As a result, it is confirmed that attenuation characteristics of upper and lower frequency is asymmetric. And a modified circuit and design formulas are proposed to improve the asymmetric attenuation characteristics. By confirming the simulated and measured results that are got from designed and made a experiment on the band-pass filter with the proposed circuit and formulas for design, we confirm that the asymmetric attenuation characteristics of the band-pass filter are improved without any optimization or iterative design procedures and additional calculation efforts.

  • An image enhancement method using modified anisotropic diffusion filter is proposed in this paper. It employs sensor noise estimation and scale space methods based on the minimum reliable scale. Then the anisotropic diffusion filter is modified by the calculated critical value function and local gradient. Through simulation, it is verified that the proposed algorithm has the capability of little or no noise amplification in homogenous region as well as superior edge enhancement.

  • A wavelength filter based on a polymer Bragg reflector has received much attention due to its simple structure and wide tuning range. Tilted Bragg gratings and asymmetric Y-branches are integrated to extract the reflected optical signals in different directions. To optimize device performance, design procedures are thoroughly considered and various design parameters are applied to fabricated devices. An asymmetric Y-branch with an angle of $0.3^{\circ}$ produced crosstalk less than -25 dB, and the even-odd mode coupling was optimized for a grating tilt angle of $2.5^{\circ}$, which closely followed the design results. Through this experiment, it was confirmed that this device has a large manufacturing tolerance, which is important for mass production of this optical device.

  • This paper presents a capacitor loaded tunable bandpass chip filter using multiple split ring resonators (MSRRs) with two transmission zeros. To obtain high selectivity and minimize the chip size, asymmetric feed lines are adopted to make a pair of transmission zeros located on each side of passband. Compared with conventional filters using cross-coupling or source-load coupling techniques, the proposed filter uses only two resonators to achieve high selectivity through a pair of transmission zeros. In order to optimize selectivity and sensitivity (insertion loss) of the filter, the effect of the position of asymmetric feed line on transmission zeros and insertion loss is analyzed. The SOI-CMOS switched capacitor composed of metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitor and stacked-FETs is loaded at outer rings of MSRRs to tune passband frequency and handle high power signal up to +30 dBm. By turning on or off the gate of the transistors, the passband frequency can be shifted from 4GH to 5GHz. The proposed on-chip filter is implemented in 0.18-${\mu}m$ SOI CMOS technology that makes it possible to integrate high-Q passive devices and stacked-FETs. The designed filter shows miniaturized size of only $4mm{\times}2mm$ (i.e., $0.177{\lambda}g{\times}0.088{\lambda}g$), where ${\lambda}g$ denotes the guided wave length of the $50{\Omega}$ microstrip line at center frequency. The measured insertion loss (S21)is about 5.1dB and 6.9dB at 5.4GHz and 4.5GHz, respectively. The designed filter shows out-of-band rejection greater than 20dB at 500MHz offset from center frequency.

  • Add-drop filtering effect of a asymmetric fiber-optic coupler ADF(add/drop filter) is analyzed using a new split-step time-domain model. This model is very useful in simulating the devices containing a directional coupler an Bragg gratings, First, a symmetric fiber-optic coupler ADM is analyzed using this model to confirm the accuracy of the new method. Then, an asymmetric fiber-optic coupler ADF is analyzed, and some design parameters for optimal filtering effect is derived.

  • In this study, peripheral auditory system has been modeled as a filter bank of overlaping bandpass filters, and auditory filter shape has been estimated by notch noise masking. The filter was centered at 1kHz, and noise level was set to 40dB SPL. Masker noise was generated by summing sinusoidal functions with random phase for very steep skirts. To estimate threshold we used two alternative forced choice with 500 msec of duration. We measured threshold with notch width at 0.05,0.1,0.2,0.3,0.4 and 0.5. The filter was asymmetric with steeper upper branch and its ERB was 168 - 192 Hz.
