Super-resolution near-field structure (super-RENS) read-out samples are affected by a nonlinear and noncausal channel, which results in inter-symbol interference (ISI). In this study, we investigate asymmetry or domain bloom in super-RENS in terms of equalization. Domain bloom is caused by writing process in optical recording. We assume in this work that the asymmetry symbol conversion scheme is to generate asymmetric symbols, and then a linear finite impulse response filter can model the read-out channel. For equalizing this overall nonlinear channel, the read-out signals are deconvolved with the finite impulse response filter and its output is decided based on the decision rule table that is developed from the asymmetry symbol conversion scheme. The proposed equalizer is investigated with the simulations and the real super-RENS samples in terms of raw bit error rate.

In-band full-duplex (IBFD) wireless communication supports symmetric dual transmission between two nodes and asymmetric dual transmission among three nodes, which allows improved throughput for distributed IBFD wireless networks. However, inter-node interference (INI) can affect desired packet reception in the downlink of three-node topology. The current Half-duplex (HD) medium access control (MAC) mechanism RTS/CTS is unable to establish an asymmetric dual link and consequently to suppress INI. In this paper, we propose a medium access control mechanism for use in distributed IBFD wireless networks, FD-DMAC (Full-Duplex Distributed MAC). In this approach, communication nodes only require single channel access to establish symmetric or asymmetric dual link, and we fully consider the two transmission modes of asymmetric dual link. Through FD-DMAC medium access, the neighbors of communication nodes can clearly know network transmission status, which will provide other opportunities of asymmetric IBFD dual communication and solve hidden node problem. Additionally, we leverage FD-DMAC to transmit received power information. This approach can assist communication nodes to adjust transmit powers and suppress INI. Finally, we give a theoretical analysis of network performance using a discrete-time Markov model. The numerical results show that FD-DMAC achieves a significant improvement over RTS/CTS in terms of throughput and delay.
The extended analysis on the diverging flow through asymmetric membrane pores has been performed in this study. Afore rigorous equations of velocity profile relevant to the divergent slit and cone shaped channels, which are widely used as a general pore model, have been obtained by employing a creeping flow approach of Newtonian fluids. As a degree of asymmetry (i.e., diverging angle) is increased, the predicted flow function shifts Toward the center region due to the incorporated wall effect, so that the overall velocity profile becomes decreased. It is true, as expected, that when the divergent channel is in the low diverging angle limit, the channel flow results in the Poiseuillean fashion by utilizing a lubrication approximation. The flow rate equation of each type of channel has been developed from the combined solution of velocity profile and pressure fields. The effect of diverging flow on the flow rate enhancement has been remarkably predicted, in which the flow rate increases with the increase of pore asymmetry. The advantage of our theoretical results lies in the analytical expression for the diverging flow behavior through pore channels as well as its ability to play a fundamental role on the related membrane filtrations such as microfiltration and ultrafiltration.

The thick open section composite beams are used extensively as load carrying members and stiffeners of structural elements. However, most of studies on thick composite beams are limited only to closed section beams. In this study, an open cross-section thick-walled composite beam model which includes coupled stiffness, transverse shear, and warping effects is suggested and the deflections associated with the thick-walled composite beams and thin-walled composite beams are obtained and compared with the finite element analysis results. The correlation between thin and thick walled composite beam was achieved for two different layup configurations which are the circumferentially asymmetric stiffness (CAS) and circumferentially uniform stiffness (CUS) beams.
Relation between the length scale and the wall proximity function in the Mellor-Yamada level 2.5 turbulence closure model has been investigated through various experiments using a range of wall proximity functions. The model performance has been evaluated quantitatively by comparing with laboratory data for wind-driven flow (Baines and Knapp, 1965) and for open-channel flows without and with adverse wind action (Tsuruya, 1985). Comparison shows that a symmetric wall proximity function used by Blumberg and Mellor(1987) gives rise to current profiles with better accuracy than asymmetric wall proximity functions considered. It is noted that in modelling homogeneous flows the length scale 1= 0.31${\|}$z${\|}$(1+z/h) can be used with tolerable accuracy.
This paper analyzes the fairness and efficiency of channel sharing when heterogeneous wireless networks that have different transmission power and/or coverage coexist with the contention-based channel access protocol. First, we show that the existing CSMA (carrier sensing multiple access) protocol, that is a prevailing contention-based mechanism, results in significant unfairness of channel access because of (1) the asymmetric capability of carrier sensing and (2) the blindness of binary exponential backoff and link adaptation mechanisms to the interference-driven transmission failures. Next, we derive the feasible region of carrier sensing thresholds that assures spatial reuse and fair channel sharing simultaneously. Moreover, we establish an analytical model for per-system throughput and investigate the effect of contention window size and transmission rate on the fairness and efficiency of channel sharing. Finally, we compare the performance of several approaches for fair channel sharing via simulations under various network configurations.

This paper presents the results of Ka band qualification model multiplexers for COMS Payload to be launched in 2008. These are the input and output multiplexers of the satellite transponder to use available frequency resources effectively and the diplexer of the satellite antenna to use the same reflector for both transmitting and receiving frequency bands, respectively. The input multiplexer with four frequency channels has four(4) independent channel filters which consist of an 8-pole elliptic band-pass filter for high frequency selectivity and a 2-pole equalizer for group delay equalization. For low insertion loss, mass and volume reduction, manifold type os employed for output multiplexer. E-plane T-junction is used for either splitting or combining a frequency band into two sub-bands. Asymmetric inductive irises are used to tune the receiving filter easily. The electrical performance and environmental test such as vibration test, mechanical shock test, thermal vacuum test and EMC test are performed and the results of all qualification model multiplexers are compliant to the requirement of each multiplexer. Followed by this qualification, the flight model equipment will be developed.
An experimental investigation of the flow over the rectangular body located in close proximity to a ground board was reported using the particle image velocimetry (PIV) technique. The present experiments were conducted in a closed-loop open surface water channel with the Reynolds number, $Re_H=1.2{\times}10^4$ based on the model height. In addition to the PIV measurements, flow visualization studies were also carried out. The PIV technique provided instantaneous and time-averaged velocity vectors map, vorticity contours, streamline topology and turbulent quantities at various locations in the near wake. In the vertical symmetry plane, the upperbody flow is separated from the sharp top leading edge of the model and formed a large reverse flow region on the upper surface of the model. The flow structure downstream of the model has asymmetric double vortices. In the horizontal symmetry plane, identical separated flow regions occur on both vertical side walls and a pair of primary recirculatory bubbles dominates the wake region.
As so many marketers get to use diverse sales promotion methods, manufacturer and retailer in a channel often use them too. In this context, diverse issues on sales promotion management arise. One of them is the issue of unplanned buying. Consumers' unplanned buying is clearly better off for the retailer but not for manufacturer. This asymmetric influence of unplanned buying should be dealt with prudently because of its possibility of provocation of channel conflict. However, there have been scarce studies on the sales promotion management strategy considering the unplanned buying and its asymmetric effect on retailer and manufacturer. In this paper, we try to find a better way for a manufacturer in a channel to promote performance through the retailer's sales promotion efforts when there is potential of unplanned buying effect. We investigate via game-theoretic modeling what is the optimal cost sharing level between the manufacturer and retailer when there is unplanned buying effect. We investigated following issues about the topic as follows: (1) What structure of cost sharing mechanism should the manufacturer and retailer in a channel choose when unplanned buying effect is strong (or weak)? (2) How much payoff could the manufacturer and retailer in a channel get when unplanned buying effect is strong (or weak)? We focus on the impact of unplanned buying effect on the optimal cost sharing mechanism for sales promotions between a manufacturer and a retailer in a same channel. So we consider two players in the game, a manufacturer and a retailer who are interacting in a same distribution channel. The model is of complete information game type. In the model, the manufacturer is the Stackelberg leader and the retailer is the follower. Variables in the model are as following table. Manufacturer's objective function in the basic game is as follows: ${\Pi}={\Pi}_1+{\Pi}_2$, where, ${\Pi}_1=w_1(1+L-p_1)-{\psi}^2$, ${\Pi}_2=w_2(1-{\epsilon}L-p_2)$. And retailer's is as follows: ${\pi}={\pi}_1+{\pi}_2$, where, ${\pi}_1=(p_1-w_1)(1+L-p_1)-L(L-{\psi})+p_u(b+L-p_u)$, ${\pi}_2=(p_2-w_2)(1-{\epsilon}L-p_2)$. The model is of four stages in two periods. Stages of the game are as follows. (Stage 1) Manufacturer sets wholesale price of the first period($w_1$) and cost sharing level of channel sales promotion(${\Psi}$). (Stage 2) Retailer sets retail price of the focal brand($p_1$), the unplanned buying item($p_u$), and sales promotion level(L). (Stage 3) Manufacturer sets wholesale price of the second period($w_2$). (Stage 4) Retailer sets retail price of the second period($p_2$). Since the model is a kind of dynamic games, we try to find a subgame perfect equilibrium to derive some theoretical and managerial implications. In order to obtain the subgame perfect equilibrium, we use the backward induction method. In using backward induction approach, we solve the problems backward from stage 4 to stage 1. By completely knowing follower's optimal reaction to the leader's potential actions, we can fold the game tree backward. Equilibrium of each variable in the basic game is as following table. We conducted more analysis of additional game about diverse cost level of manufacturer. Manufacturer's objective function in the additional game is same with that of the basic game as follows: ${\Pi}={\Pi}_1+{\Pi}_2$, where, ${\Pi}_1=w_1(1+L-p_1)-{\psi}^2$, ${\Pi}_2=w_2(1-{\epsilon}L-p_2)$. But retailer's objective function is different from that of the basic game as follows: ${\pi}={\pi}_1+{\pi}_2$, where, ${\pi}_1=(p_1-w_1)(1+L-p_1)-L(L-{\psi})+(p_u-c)(b+L-p_u)$, ${\pi}_2=(p_2-w_2)(1-{\epsilon}L-p_2)$. Equilibrium of each variable in this additional game is as following table. Major findings of the current study are as follows: (1) As the unplanned buying effect gets stronger, manufacturer and retailer had better increase the cost for sales promotion. (2) As the unplanned buying effect gets stronger, manufacturer had better decrease the cost sharing portion of total cost for sales promotion. (3) Manufacturer's profit is increasing function of the unplanned buying effect. (4) All results of (1),(2),(3) are alleviated by the increase of retailer's procurement cost to acquire unplanned buying items. The authors discuss the implications of those results for the marketers in manufacturers or retailers. The current study firstly suggests some managerial implications for the manufacturer how to share the sales promotion cost with the retailer in a channel to the high or low level of the consumers' unplanned buying potential.

This paper presents an information theoretic outage analysis for physical layer of a cooperative multihop wireless network. Our analysis shows that cooperation by selecting a proper relay at each hop increases the coverage or data rate of the network. In our analysis we consider both symmetric and asymmetric network model. We also investigate the availability of cooperative relay at each hop and show that end-to-end performance of the network depends on the relay selection procedure at each hop. We also verify our analytical results with simulations.
