들뢰즈의 '되기' 운동으로 바라본 고등학생들의 천체 관측 활동 경험 (The Experiences of High School Students about Astronomical Observation Activities Seen through the Movement of Deleuzian "Becoming")

  • 과학 실천은 학습 소재에 해당하는 대상이나 관찰과 측정을 위한 도구와 같은 '이질적인 것'들과 새로운 관계를 맺는 과정이다. 최근 전공 교과에 대한 과학 실천이 점차 강조되고 있는 시점에서 본 연구에서는 천체 관측이라는 지구과학 교과의 특유한 과학 실천을 새롭게 들여다보고자 했다. 이를 위해 천체 관측을 경험한 학생들과 수많은 물질들이 만들어 낸 의미를 '-되기'의 경험으로 바라보았다. 연구의 방법으로는 A고등학교의 천체 관측 활동에 참여하는 17명의 학생들이 작성한 활동 일지, 사진 자료 등을 수집하고 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 수집한 자료는 상황 분석 방법을 재구성하여 살펴보았다. 주요 연구결과로는, 학생들의 존재-인식론적 '-되기'의 과정으로 1) 반복을 통해 새로움을 발견하는 과정, 2) 천체 관측 활동의 정동을 전달하기 위한 '설명 기계'가 되어가는 과정, 3) 안정적인 영토를 벗어나 문턱을 넘는 과정을 발견하였다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 지구과학교육과 교육 연구를 위한 교사의 실천과 새로운 접근 방식에 대해 제언하였다.

보현산천문대의 관측환경 통계 분석 : 1998년~2004년 (STATISTICAL ANALYSIS OF BOAO OBSERVATION ENVIRONMENT: 1998~2004)

  • Observation environment of the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomy Observatory(BOAO) has been examined using various statistical data including real observation times versus allocated times and seeing statistics. The data have been collected from the observation logs of the 1.8m telescope in the period 1998 - 2004. New criteria have been set up to calculate a more realistic observation efficiency of the observatory. The new statistical analysis based on the new criteria gives the overall observation efficiency of BOAO as $38.6\%$, that is equivalent to 115.8 observable nights out of 300 allocatable nights. The seeing statistics shows that the mean seeing measured at the focal images is 2".3. The present study of the observation environment of BOAO suggests that differential photometry and spectroscopy should be preferred modes of observation to maximize the productivity of BOAO.

  • A new technique of photographic observations is developed for the determination of time of minimum light of eclipsing binary. An instrumental system to accomplish the observation is described. With this instrument the atmospheric extinction coefficients in Seoul are observed, and four times of minimum light for Algol and W UMa are determined.

Study of Active Galactic Nuclei and Gravitational Wave Sources with Time-series Observation

  • In this presentation, study of the energetic astronomical phenomena, active galactic nucleus (AGN) and gravitational wave (GW) source, with time-series observation will be reported. They emit large amounts of energy and play an important role in the history of the Universe. First, intra-night variability of AGNs is studied using Korea Microlensing Telescope Network (KMTNet). Second topic is photometric reverberation mapping which is applied for 11 AGNs with medium-bands and Lee Sang Gak Telescope. Last, three gravitational wave events were followed-up by various optical telescopes. Each topic will be specifically addressed in the presentation.

SN 1604 IN CHINA

  • The 6th East Asian Meeting of Astronomy was held just at the time of 400 years after the discovery of SN (supernova) 1604 and its pre-maximum observation by the astronomers both from the East and the West in the 17th century. It has a special meaning and is interesting to look back on the historical observation of SN 1604. In this paper, we only limit to concern the Chinese observation on SN 1604.

  • Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory (TRAO) is about to jump with new system - 16 beams array receiver with low noise temperature, new observation system on VxWorks OS, and FX spectrometer for 32 input signals. We serve a quite obvious diagram to understand new TRAO observation system. This diagram will be quick guide for manager and observer.

Optical Design of CubeSat Reflecting Telescope

  • The optics of Space telescope is one of the major parts of space mission used for imaging observation of astronomical targets and the Earth. These kinds of space mission have a bulky and complex opto-mechanics with a long optical tube, but there are attempts have been made to observe a target with a small satellite in many ways. In this paper, we describe an optical design of a reflecting telescope for use in a CubeSat mission. For this design, we adopt the off-axis segmented method of astronomical observation techniques based on the Ritchey-Chr$\acute{e}$tien type telescope. The primary mirror shape is a rectangle with dimensions of $8cm{\times}8cm$, and a secondary mirror has dimensions of $2.4cm{\times}4.1cm$. The focal ratio is 3 which can obtain a $0.3{\times}0.2$ degree diagonal angle in a $1280{\times}800$ CMOS color image sensor with a pixel size of $3{\mu}m{\times}3{\mu}m$. This optical design can capture a ${\sim}4km{\times}{\sim}2.3km$ area of the earth's surface at 700 km altitude operation. Based on this conceptual design, we will keep trying to study more for astronomical observation with Attitude control system.

  • On-The-Fly (OTF) observation method is developed for the efficient use of 6 M radio telescope at Seoul Radio Astronomy Observatory (SRAO). This technique, in which data and information of antenna position are recorded synchronously while driving a telescope regularly and rapidly across a field, provides more efficient use of telescope time and better calibration of the acquired data than the traditional point-to-point observation method does. For the realization of the method, we (1) added RT-Linux modules to the existing operating system, (2) replaced digital voltmeter with voltage-to-frequency converter, and (3) modified many SRAO observation programs. By observing Moon and G78.2+2.7 using this method and comparing them with previous observations, we verify the successful operation and efficiency of the OTF observation mode.
