A recommendation system for assisting devices in long-term care insurance (의사결정나무기법을 활용한 장기요양 복지용구 권고모형 개발)

  • It is very important to support the elderly with disability ageing in place. Assisting devices can help them to live independently in their community; however, they have to be used appropriately to meet care needs. This study develops an assisting device recommendation system for the beneficiaries of long-term care insurance that include algorithms to decide the most appropriate type of assisting device for beneficiaries. We used long-term care (LTC) insurance data for grade assessment including 8,084 beneficiaries from July 2015 to June 2016. In addition, we collected standard care plans for assisting devices, that power-assessors made, considering their performance and ability that could subsequently be matched with grade assessment data. We used a decision-tree model in data-mining to develop the model. Finally, we developed 15 algorithms for recommending assisting devices. The findings might be useful in evidence-based care planning for assisting devices and can contribute to enhancing independence and safety in LTC.

  • In this paper we studied the application of inter-poly dielectric as silicon dioxide-like film was deposited by the higher energy assisting deposition (HEAD) process the modified CCP process, which enables low temperature (LT) process and improving film density. In these experiments the relative hydrogen concentration of $SiO_2$-like films deposited on silicon substrate were analyzed by the secondary ion mass spectroscopy (SIMS) and it was shown that our lower hydrogenated oxide (LHO) film prepared by HEAD process with the precursor contained the siloxane species had lower hydrogen concentration, $8{\times}10{\cdot}^{22}cm{\cdot}^3$ than that of the commercial undoped silicon glass (USG) film ($1{\times}10{\cdot}^{21}cm{\cdot}^3$) prepared by the high density plasma-chemical vapor deposition (HDP-CVD). We consider that the LHO film deposited by HEAD process used as high performance material into Flash memory devices.

  • This study investigates the usefulness of cellular and 'feature' phones in assisting students with self-motivated study at school and at home. It involves developing educational applications which can be used on these devices which, once developed, would be extended to students. Furthermore, this study seeks to investigate the merits of these mobile applications in assisting learners to study. It is my hope that this study can be used to develop the software to make these applications a reality. This study' ultimate purpose is to contribute to vitalizing and energizing mobile education.

Current Trends of Vibration-Assisted Machining in Micro/Nano Scales (초정밀 진동 보조 가공 연구 동향)

  • Recently, mechanical components with miniaturized size, complex shape and fine surface are on demand from industries such as mobile electronics, medical devices and defense. The size of them is smaller than several millimeters, the shape has micro-holes, curve, or multi-step and the surface is mirror-like. This features are not able to be machined with the conventional machining, therefore electro-discharge machining (EDM), cutting, and laser machining have been applied. If the technologies are assisted by vibration, high aspect ratio and good surface are to be achieved. In this paper, prior and current researches of vibration-assisted machining are reviewed. Machining mechanisms with vibration-assisting are explained, their effects are shown, and vibrating apparatuses are discussed. Especially, comparison between with and without vibration assisting is presented. This review shows the vibration-assisted machining is effectively fabricate the components with small and complicated shape and fine surface finish.

LED Fiber-Optic Lighting Devices Developed for Medical Assistance for the Local Treatment Retractor (국부치료를 위한 Retractor용 LED 광섬유 의료보조조명 장치 개발)

  • This paper introduces a device providing close local lighting to the affected part, where the operation-purpose astral lamp alone cannot shed light directly, in an operation room of hospitals or clinics, which helps clinical doctors perform safe treatment of the affected part deep inside a human body. This medical assisting lighting is a device necessary to prevent fatal operation failures, which can occur with minute operation processes, such as tumor removal or angiorrhaphy. The components, such as the light source and power supply were designed to be low power consuming and small in size, have a narrow angle lens was used to increase the light spreading effect and focused illumination. The end-caps of the light transmission device using an optical cable and the lighting device were designed in the waterproof type to enable disinfection of these devices after use for the next patients. According to the measurement of the light source properties made after development of the retractor lighting device, the illumination intensity was 490 lux, the brightness was $11,550cd/m^2$, general color rendering index was 78, color temperature was 11,000K, and the intensity distribution was even, which were confirmed to be adequate for medical assisting local lighting.

  • Research and development of Assistive Technology (AT) for blind people is primarily focused on assisting mobility and improving access to information. Some particularly useful devices for aiding access to information and communication are DAISY players used with talking books, screen readers for reading screens, video magnifiers to aid low vision, Braille displays, and Braille PDAs. These essential devices have been successfully commercialized and have assisted many visually impaired people. Assistive technology devices for visually impaired people are called sensory substitution devices, because these devices substitute tactile or auditory functions for visual functions. The tactile interfaces of sensory substitution devices such as Braille displays and Braille PDAs have a bimorph type of piezoelectric actuator that forms a Braille (pin) of the Braille cells by moving up and down. KGS Corporation of Japan has more than 80% share of the worldwide market for these Braille cell actuators. Commercializing it for the first time in the world. This paper reviews the various endeavors in Japan in the research and development of tactile displays, such as Braille displays and Braille PDAs. Furthermore, it discusses sensory substitution devices that use tactile displays, focusing especially on the rotating Braille display we have developed.

  • Owing to the development of mobile communication technology during the last a few years, the number of users of mobile devices such as the smartphone and the tablet PC has increased rapidly. As a result, the range of applications of the mobile devices has also been greatly expanded from an application for the convenience of daily life to an application for assisting the operations of industrial fields. Especially, portability of mobile devices can provide great help in collecting and using information on the production site. In shipbuilding production processes, it is difficult to collect changes of circumstance in the field and reflect the changes to schedule due to the low production automation rate and frequent changes in schedule. In this study, we propose a system to solve the problems of shipbuilding production processes such as the ones described above by using mobile devices. First of all, we organize the production information and production processes of the panel line through the analysis of shipyard panel line operations. Next, we have developed a system that can support the production execution plan of the panel line and monitor the production processes in the field. The system was developed utilizing application virtualization to allow access to the system from various platforms of mobile devices and PC's. The system was implemented using ooCBD methodology considering the future expansion of the system and ease of maintenance.

  • This paper introduces a prototype smart home environment that is built in the research building to demonstrate the feasibility of a robot-assisted future home environment. Localization, navigation, object recognition and handling are core functionalities that an intelligent service robot should provide. A huge amount of research effort has been made to make the service robot perform these functions with its own sensors, actuators and a knowledge base. With all complicated configuration of sensors, actuators and a database, the robot could only perform the given tasks in a predefined environment or show the limited capabilities in a natural environment. We started a smart home environment for service robots for simple service robots to provide reliable services by communicating with the environment through the wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we introduce various types of smart devices that are developed for assisting the robot in the environment by providing sensor and actuator capabilities. In addition, we present how the devices are integrated to constitute the smart home environment for service robots.

  • Generally, to operate the IT devices, a user should exploit his eye and hand. It is so difficult for the most disabled user with the limited vision or hand to manipulate a personal computer and to buy devices assisting the manipulation due to the expensive price. In this paper, we propose the voice system manipulating the personal computer using the Amazon echo. The proposed system controls the mouse of the personal computer and activates functions of the personal computer using the skill stored in the Amazon web service.

Development of Ergonomic Walking Assistance Robot for the Elderly and the Infirm (노약자들을 위한 인체공학적 보행 보조 로봇의 개발)

  • This paper describes the development of a novel walking assistance robot for the elderly and infirm. In the case of simple walking assistance devices, the walking safety and effectiveness are somewhat low; hence, caregivers are frequently required. The walking assistance robot developed in this research is capable of securely and conveniently assisting a walking user by using electric motors and various devices without a caregiver. The main features include the following. First, the walking safety is improved by using a pelvis supporter, and the robot is able to follow the user effectively by means of ergonomic motion sensors and electric powered wheels. Second, it is possible to adjust the load applied to the lower body by adjusting the height of the pelvis supporter. Finally, it is possible to inform the approximate distance and direction of any obstacle around the robot using the sounds and vibrations for the blind and the hearing impaired. The performance of the developed walking assistance robot was successfully verified using a walking assistance test in a narrow-corridor environment.
