Effect of Assistant Gas Pressure on Laser Cutting of STS304 (STS304의 레이저 절단에서 보조가스 압력이 미치는 영향)

  • This paper presents the effects of assistant gas pressure on laser cutting. To investigate the effects of assistant gas pressure, pressure measuring system was constructed with good handling and precision at low price. The measured results discussed compare with that of laser cutting of STS304. The assistant gas pressure varied with the variation of distance between nozzle and workpiece. The peak pressure existed at some distance and could be known by using the deviced pressure measuring system. The higher assistant gas pressure helps to remove the dross and the exothermic energy out of the material. The quantity of dross beneath the workpiece decreases and the kerf width narrows at measured peak pressure.

  • This paper described the characteristics of the exhaust pressure and proposed the assistant device for detection of misfired cylinder. Misfire, one of abnormal combustion, affects a bad influence of the 3-way catalyst and emits unburned hydrocarbon. Therefore, to prevent these unusual phenomena and eliminate the factor of the environmental pollution, early detection and correction of the misfired cylinder play a very important role. The configuration of assistant device was changed by length and diameter of pipe and analyzed with the install position on the exhaust system. Experimental results showed that the configuration of assistant device is not affected more than length and diameter of pipe and the assistant device is be effective in the detection of misfired cylinder on the gasoline engine.

  • The bi-modal tram is under development as a new public transportation. The features of the tram are an extended wheel base and its length. This features result in difficulties for drivers on maneuvering the tram. Therefore, the all wheel steering system is applied to the articulated vehicle. The AWS system enables the vehicle to steer all the rear wheels independently and improves its driving characteristics. However, the bi-modal tram has a problem to move backward in the limited place because of its geometric feature and the AWS system. Hence, the reverse parking assistant algorithm for articulated vehicle is developed to solve the problems of the reverse parking. Using the vehicle model which includes the reverse parking assistant algorithm, the dynamic analysis is performed for several parking cases. By the result of the analysis, the stability and validity of the reverse parking assistant algorithm is verified.

  • This paper describes a vehicle low speed driving assistant (VLDA) system that is composed of laser scanner. This vehicle is designed for following lead vehicle (LV) without driver's operation. The system is made up several component systems that are based on unmanned ground vehicle (UGV). Each component system is applied to use advanced safety vehicle developed to complete UGV system. VLDA system was divided into vehicle control system and obstacle detecting system. The obstacle detecting system calculate distance and angle of LV and transmit these data to vehicle control system using front, left and right laser scanners. Vehicle control system makes vehicle control values such as steering angle, acceleration and brake position and control vehicle's movement with steering, acceleration and brake actuators. In this research, we designed VLDA system like as low speed cruise control system and test it on real road environments.

Korean Learning Assistant System with Automatically Extracted Knowledge (자동 추출된 지식에 기반한 한국어 학습 지원 시스템)

  • Computer aided language learning has become popular. But the level of automation of constructing a Korean learning assistant system is not so high because a practical language learning system needs large scale knowledge resources, which is very hard to acquire. In this paper, we propose a Korean learning assistant system that utilizes easily obtainable knowledge resources like a corpus, web documents and a lexicon. Our system has three modules - problem solving, pronunciation marker and writing assistant. Automatic problem generator uses a corpus and a lexicon to make problems with one correct answer and three distracters, then verifies their suitability by utilizing frequency information from web documents. We analyze pronunciation rules for a pronunciation marker and recommend appropriate words and sentences in real-time by using data extracted from a corpus. In experiment, we evaluate 400 automatically generated problems, which show 89.9% problem suitability and 64.9% example suitability.

Methodology for Estimating Safety Benefits of Advanced Driver Assistant Systems (첨단 운전자지원시스템의 교통안전 효과추정 방법론)

  • Recent advanced sensors and communication technologies have been widely applied to advanced safety vehicle (ASV) for reducing traffic accident and injury severity. To apply the advanced safety vehicle technologies, it is important to quantify the safety benefits, which is a fundamental for justifying application. This study proposed a methodology for quantifying the effectiveness of the advanced driver assistant system (ADAS), and applied the methodology to lane departure warning system (LDWS) and automatic emergency braking system (AEBS) which are typical advanced driver assistant systems. When the proposed methodology is applied to 2008-2010 gyeonggi-province crash data, LDWS would reduce about 10~14% of relevant crashes such as head-on, run-off-the road, rollover and fixed-object collisions on the road. In addition, AEBS could potentially prevent about 50% of total rear-end crashes. The outcomes of this study support decision making for developing not only vehicular technology but also relevant safety policies.

Non-contact Palmprint Attendance System on PC Platform

  • In order to overcome the problems of contact palmprint recognition, a non-contact palmprint recognition system is developed on personal computer (PC) platform. Three methods, namely "double-line-single-point" (DLSP), "double-assistant-crosshair" (DAC) and "none-assistant-graphic" (NAG), are implemented for the palmprint localization to solve the severe technical challenges, including the complex background, variant illuminations, uncontrollable locations and gestures of hands. In NAG, hand segmentation and the cropping of region of interest are performed without any assistant graphics. The convex hull contour of hand helps detect the outside contour of little finger as well as the valley bottom between thumb and index finger. The three methods of palmprint localization have good operating efficiency and can meet the performance requirements of real-time system. Furthermore, an attendance system on PC platform is designed and developed based on non-contact palmprint recognition.

  • In this paper, a teaching assistant system using computer vision is presented. Using the proposed system, lecturers can utilize various lecture contents such as lecture notes and related video clips easily and seamlessly. In order to do transition between different lecture contents and control multimedia contents, lecturers just draw pre-defined symbols on the board without pausing the class. In the proposed teaching assistant system, a feature descriptor, so called shape context, is used for recognizing the pre-defined symbols successfully.

  • IEEE WAVE is going through the final standardization process as the wireless access technology which provides drivers in high-speed vehicles with safety-related information and commercial services This paper presents an application-layer protocol for safe driving assistant service and a service system emulator based on this protocol. The safe driving assistant system includes a construction zone information service and a vehicle crash notification service, an emergency vehicle notification service, a probing service and a dilemma zone decision assistant service. Emulator System design for verifying functions of system, The emulator consists of an emulator server that models the movement of all vehicles and road states and a number of clients that models functional units for OBUs, RSUs, and a traffic control center).

Multi-View Image Parking Assistant System using Vehicle Data (차량 정보를 이용한 멀티뷰 영상 주차 보조 시스템)

  • This paper presents a parking assistant system of multi-view using vehicle data. Proposed system provides the driver with three direction of the scenes surrounding vehicle. Depending on the handle rotation, the proposed system displays views from multiple wide-angle CCD cameras on the laptop screen to reduce blind spots, support smooth parallel or garage parking, and support comfortable and safe driving. The handle angle and gear position are obtained from ABS ECU through OBD-II port. The performance of proposed system is validated by vehicle experiments.
