We have developed a compact and cost-effective camera module on the basis of wafer-scale-replica processing. A multiple-layered structure of several aspheric lenses in a mobile-phone camera module is first assembled by bonding multiple glass-wafers on which 2-dimensional replica arrays of identical aspheric lenses are UV-embossed, followed by dicing the stacked wafers and packaging them with image sensor chips. This wafer-scale processing leads to at least 95% yield in mass-production, and potentially to a very slim phone with camera-module less than 2 mm in thickness. We have demonstrated a VGA camera module fabricated by the wafer-scale-replica processing with various UV-curable polymers having refractive indices between 1.4 and 1.6, and with three different glass-wafers of which both surfaces are embossed as aspheric lenses having $230{\mu}m$ sag-height and aspheric-coefficients of lens polynomials up to tenth-order. We have found that precise compensation in material shrinkage of the polymer materials is one of the most technical challenges, in orderto achieve a higher resolution in wafer-scaled lenses for mobile-phone camera modules.

We propose the Fizeau-type phase shifting interferometer(FPSI) system for the performance test of high-order aspheric lenses. The proposed system is divided into two parts : optical part and signal processing part. Those two parts are operated by a program for hardware control. We also developed an analysis program adopting the phase shifting algorithm to analyze the obtained interferograms. We can confirm that the proposed system is efficient and adequate by direct comparison with the standard criterion in Mark IV interferometric system of Zygo. The peak-to-valley and RMS values of surface errors which are used to characterize high-order aspheric lenses are 0.845 wave and 0.1871 wave, respectively. The measurement errors between the proposed system and Mark IV are less than ${\lambda}/100$ and the repeatability is also calculated at less than ${\lambda}/100$.

By the recently developed GMP(Glass Molding Press) process, aspheric glass lenses are widely used in many optical applications such as digital cameras, optical data storages and electrical devices etc. The GMP process can economically produce complex shaped glass lenses with high precision and good repeatability. This study deals the optimization of molding conditions for aspheric glass lenses in progressive GMP process through Design Of Experiment(Taguchi method). Tree main factors for molding conditions were selected based on pressure, temperature and cooling time at 1st cooling stage. From the analysis of experiments which were preformed with 3-cavity glass mold, it was revealed that the cooling time was the most sensitive parameter for form accuracy(PV) in progressive GMP process.

In this research, the optimal grinding condition has been obtained by design of experiment (DOE) fur the development of aspheric lens for the 3 Mega Pixel, 2.5x optical zoom camera-phone module. Also, the tungsten carbide (WC) mold was processed by the method of ultra precision grinding under this optimal grinding condition. The influence of diamond-liked carbon (DLC) coating on form accuracy (PV) and surface roughness (Ra) of the mold was evaluated through measurements after DCL coating using ion plating on the ground mold. Also, aspheric glass lenses were molded, some before DLC coating of the mold and some after the DLC coating. The optical characteristics of each sample, molded by the different molds, were compared with each other.
The Cassegrain telescope consists of a primary concave mirror and a secondary convex mirror. In the case of a secondary mirror, it is more difficult to test wavefront error than for a primary mirror, because it reflects the entire testing beam, as it is convex in shape. In this paper we tested the wavefront error of a complex aspheric convex secondary mirror by using the Simpson-Oland-Meckel Hindle test. To separate the systematic errors, such as fabrication error and alignment error of a meniscus lens, we adopted the QN absolute test (pixel-based absolute test using the quasi-Newton method) as well. Finally, we compared the measured result with that of an ASI (Aspheric Stitching Interferometer) made by the QED company, which resulted in an rms difference of only 2.5 nm, showing a similar shape of astigmatism aberration.

Recently, remarkable progress has been made in both technology and production of optical elements including aspheric lens. Especially, requirements for machining glass materials have been increasing in terms of limitation on using environment, flexibility of material selection and surface accuracy. In the past, precision optical glass lenses were produced through multiple processes such as grinding and polishing, but mass production of aspheric lenses requiring high accuracy and having complex profile was rather difficult. In such a background, the high-precision optical GMP process was developed with an eye to mass production of precision optical glass parts by molding press. This GMP process can produce with precision and good repeatability special form lenses such as camera, video camera, aspheric lens for laser pickup, $f-\theta$ lens for laser printer and prism, and me glass parts including diffraction grating and V-grooved base. GMP process consist a succession of heating, forming, and cooling stage. In this study, as a fundamental study to develop molds for GMP used in fabrication of glass lens, we conducted a glass lens forming simulation. In prior to, to determine flow characteristics and coefficient of friction, a compression test and a compression farming simulation for PBK40, which is a material of glass lens, were conducted. Finally, using flow stress functions and coefficient of friction, a glass lens forming simulation was conducted.
Aspheric pick-up lenses are increasingly used in consumer products such as computer and multimedia, as their mass production has become possible owing to the injection molding process. However still much work needs to be done for more effective manufacture of aspheric lenses, one area of which is the in-line inspection of produced lenses. In this paper, we present a lateral-shearing interferometer that has specially been designed to have a high immunity to external vibration and atmospheric disturbance. The interferometer comprises four prisms. They are directly attached to each other using an immersion oil so that relative sliding motions between the prisms are allowed. Their relative displacement can readily generate necessary lateral-shearing and phase-shifting to determine the wavefront of the beam collimated by the lens under inspection. A special phase-measuring algorithm of arbitrary-bucket is adopted to compensate the phase-shifting error caused by the thickness reduction in the immersion oil. Zernike polynomial fitting has done for determinating quantitative aberration of aspheric pick-up lenses. The interferometer built in this work is robust to external mechanical vibration and atmospheric disturbance so that experimental results show that it has a repeatability of less than λ/100.

This study explores the compression molding of diffractive-aspheric lenses using GeSbSe chalcogenide glasses. A mold core with diffractive structure was prepared and a chalcogenide glass lens was molded at various temperatures using the corresponding core. The effect of molding temperature on the transcription characteristics of diffractive structure was examined, by measuring and comparing the diffractive structure between the mold core and the molded chalcogenide glass lens using a microscope and a white light interferometer. In addition, the applicability of the molded lens for thermal imaging was evaluated, by measuring the form error.

Blu-ray Disk, the next generation optical information storing equipment used Blu-ray is the next generation leading storing equipment that has capacity is about from six times to thirty-five times bigger than the existing CDs, DVDs. Especially, we need elaborate optical pick-Up equipment to record and recognize detailed date. Moreover, Blu-ray disk has so narrow track-pitch so it is used high NA(Numerical Aperture) aspheric glass objective lens. In this research, we processed optical pick-up aspheric glass objective lens molding press core by parallel grinding method with ultra precision machining and mold core surface measured form accuracy(PV), surface roughness(Ra).

The fabrication method of aspheric lens is changed from machining to press molding so as to improve the productivity. In the case of the press molding method, the temperature control of the molding die is most important, because the temperature of each molding die determines the quality of lens. But any practical method for direct measuring of the lens temperature and the die internal temperature is yet unknown. Besides, in the case of the press molding system in which the heating and pressing and cooing of a die is done at separate work stations, the lens productivity of the system for small lens is yet too low. The paper shows an improved structure of convective sequential system, the lens productivity of which is three times as many as the conventional convective system. To know the die internal temperature, numerical results are given using ANSYS. A new convective sequential system is developed and tested. Finally, the Taguchi method is applied in order to optimize the setting conditions of individual work station of the system.
