At the onset of corrosion of steel in concrete, hydrogen ions usually evolve in the process of electrochemical reaction, thereby decreasing the pH of the pore solution, which can be buffered by cement hydration products, as being representatively illustrated by calcium hydroxide. Hence, a fall in the pH is dependent on properties of cement hydration (i.e. hydration products and degree of hydration). The present study tested acid neutralization capacity (ANC) of cementitious binders of OPC(Ordinary Portland Cement), 30% PFA(Pulverized Fuel Ash), 60% GGBS(Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag), 10% SF(Silica Fume) to quantify the resistance of cement matrix to a pH fall. Cement pastes were cast at 0.4 of a free W/C ratio with 1.5% chlorides by weight of binder in cast. Powder samples obtained crushed and ground specimen after 200 days of curing were diluted in still water combined with different levels of 1M nitric acid solution, ranging from 0.5 to 20 mol/kg. Then, the pH of diluted solution was monitored until any further change in the pH did not take place. It was seen that the pH of the diluted solution gradually decreased as the molar amount of nitric acid increased. At some particular values of the pH, however, a decrease in the pH was marginal, which can be expressed in the peak resistances to a pH fall in the ANC curve. The peaks occurred at the variations in the pH, depending on binder type, but commonly at about 12.5 in the pH, indicate a resistance of precipitated calcium hydroxide. The measurement of water soluble chloride at the end of test showed that the amount of free chloride was significantly increased at the pH corresponding to the peaks in the ANC curve, which may reflect the adsorption of hydration products to chlorides.
There are several steps such as slicing, lapping, chemical etching and mechanical polishing in the silicon wafer production process. The chemical etching step is necessary to remove damaged layer caused In the slicing and lapping steps. The typical etching liquor is the acid mixture comprising nitric acid, acetic acid and hydrofluoric acid. At present, the waste acid is treated by a neutralization method with a high alkali cost and balky solid residue. A solvent extraction method is applicable to separate and recover each acid. Acetic acid is first separated from the waste liquor using 2-ethlyhexyl alcohols as an extractant. Then, nitric acid is recovered using TBP(Tri-butyl phosphate) as an extractant. Finally hydrofluoric acid is separated with the TBP solvent extraction. The expected recovered acids in this process are 2㏖/l acetic acid, 6㏖/1 nitric acid and 6㏖/l hydrofluoric acid. The yields of this process are almost 100% for acetic acid and nitric acid. On the other hand, it is important to recover and reuse the metal values contained in various industrial wastes in a viewpoint of environmental preservation. Most of industrial products are made through the processes to separate impurities in raw materials, solid and liquid wastes being necessarily discharged as industrial wastes. Chemical methods such as solvent extraction, ion exchange and membrane, and physical methods such as heavy media separation, magnetic separation and electrostatic separation are considered as the methods for separation and recovery of the metal values from the wastes. Some examples of the application of solvent extraction to the treatment of wastes such as Ni-Co alloy scrap, Sm-Co alloy scrap, fly ash and flue dust, and liquid wastes such as plating solution, the rinse solution, etching solution and pickling solution are introduced.
In order to distinguish the honey in the market whether it is real or not simply and conviniently, the changes of water activity was investigated due to the addition of starch syrup and sucrose solution to the honeys such as Korean, Acacia, Chestnut and Mixed. The regression equations were obtained to predict the water activity of the honeys. In general, the honey was below 21% in moisture, below 0.6% in ash, 420 to 710cP in the viscosity, 0.57 to 0.62 in the water activity and 77 to 80brix in sugar content. The water activity of the samples were higher as the quantity of starch syrup and sucrose solution added increased. Starch syrup was more influence than sucrose solution. The regression equations between water activity and starch syrup concentration of honeys were obtained and $R^2$ value were higher than 0.90.
Safflower is natural red dye largely used for dyeing on protein and cellulose fabric. It contains safflower yellow and carthamin red. Safflower yellow is water-soluble dye, while carthamin red is soluble in alkaline condition. Therefore the former was extracted by cold water. Cartamon obtained by adding acidic solution to carthamin red shows the original hue of safflower. In this study, the condition of extraction with bean stem ash solution and dyeing behavior of carthamon in safflower were examined by using the traditional dyeing method. The relationship between the dye-uptake(K/S) of silk and ramie fabric and the various extractions and dyeing conditions was investigated.

Recently, for the problem solution of demand and supply imbalance of fine aggregate due to the shortage of natural fine aggregate resource and the environment regulation on sea sand extraction in the construction field, the studies for the application of recycled fine aggregate using waste concrete are being progressed versatilely. On the other hand, the treatment of fly-ashes that of industrial by-product originated in the steam power plant is discussed by the continuous increasing of origination quantities. In the ease of using fly-ash, advantages are the improvement of workability, viscosity and long-time strength, and the reduction of hydration heat under the early ages, as the admixtures for concrete, but the studies for the application of fly-ash as recycled concrete admixtures are inadequacy. There fore, in this study, through investigating the properties of fresh, hardened and durability according to the replacement of recycled fine aggregate and fly-ash, it is intended to propose the fundamental data for structural application of recycled concrete using recycled fine aggregate and fly-ash. As the result of this study, they arc shown that the engineering properties and durability, in the case of replacement ratio 100% of recycled fine aggregate, arc similar to those of concrete using natural fine aggregate, so it is considered that recycled fine aggregate could be used as the fine aggregate for concrete. Also, the performances of recycled concrete are improved by replacing fly-ash.
Laboratory experiments on the phosphorus adsorption by soil were conducted to evaluate the parameters for determination of phosphorus adsorption capacity of soil, which serve as a basis for establishing the amount of phosphorus required to improve newly reclaimed soil and volcanic ash soil. The calculated Langmuir adsorption maxima varied from 6.2-32.9, 74.7-90.4 and 720-915mg p/100g soil for cultivated soils, non-cultivated soils, and volcanic ash soils respectively. The phosphorus absorption coefficient ranged from 116-179, 161-259 and 1,098-1,205mg p/100g soil for cultivated soils, non-cultivated soils, and volcanic ash soils respectively. The ratio of the phosphorus absorption coefficient to Langmuir adsorption maximum was low in soils of high phosphorus adsorption capacity (1.3-1.5) and high in soils of low phosphorus adsorption capacity (2.2-18.7). Changes in the amount of phosphurus adsorption induced by liming and preaddition of phosphorus were hadly detected by the phosphorus absorption coefficient, which is measured using a test solution with a relatively high phosphorus concentration. The Langmuir adsorption maximum was a more sensitive index of the phosphorus adsorption capacity. The Langmuir adsorption maxima of the non-cultivated soils, which were treated with an amount of calcium hydroxide equivalent to the exchangeable Al and incubated ($25-30^{\circ}C$) for 40 days at field capacity, were lower than the original soils. The change in the adorption maximum on incubation following the liming of soils was insignificant for other soils. The secondary adsorption maximum of soils, which received phosphorus equivalent to the Langmuir adsorption maximum of the limed soils incubated ($25-30^{\circ}C$) for 50 days at held capacity, was 74.5, 5.6 and 23.8% of the primary adsorption maximum for volcanic ash soils, non-cultivated soils, and cultivated soils respectively. The amount of phosphorus adsorbed by soils increased quadratically with the concentration of phosphorus solution added to the soils. The amount of phosphorus adsorbed by 5-g soil samples from 100ml of 100- and 1,000mg p/l solution for the mineral soils and volcanic ash soils respectively was found to be close to the Langmuir adsorption maximum. The amount of the phosphorus adsorbed at these concentrations is defined as a saturation adsorption maximum and proposed as a new parameter for the phosphorus adsorption capacity of the soil. The evaluation of the phosphorus adsorption capacity by the saturation adsorption maximum is regarded as a more practical method in that it obviates the need for the various concentrations used for the determination of the Langmuir adsorption maximum.
A series of laboratory experiment was conducted to find out the chemical composition, characterization of humic substances by physical and chemical methods and reaction of Na-pyrophosphate, $Ca(OH)_2$ and rice straw with albumin on the degradation of soil organic matter in the volcanic ask soils of the Jeju Island. Results obtained were summarized as follows: 1. The contents of organic matter, available silicon, active iron and aluminum concentration in volcanic ash the soils were remarkably higher but available phosphorous was comparatively lower than the mineral soils. In volcanic ash soil, the contents of potassium, calcium and magnessium were higher in upland soil than that of forest soil. The ratios of active $Al^{{+}{+}{+}}/Fe^{{+}{+}}$, C/P and $K/Ca^+$ Mg were apparently high in volcanic ash soils while that of $SiO_2$/O.M. was high in mineral soil. 2. The carbon/nitrogen ratio in humin, humic acid content in organic matter, and carbon contents of humin in total carbon of soil organic matter were apparently higher in the volcanic ash soils than in the mineral soils, The total nitrogen and fractions of acid or alkali soluble nitrogen were remarkably high in volcanic ash soils while mineralizable nitrogen ($NH_4$-N and $NO_3$) contents were high in mineral soils. 3. The values of K600, RF and log K were also higher in volcanic ash soils than those in mineral soils, and the absorbance in the visible range were high and color was dark in the soil of which humification was progressed Extracted humic acid from volcanic ash soil was less reactive to the oxidizing chemical reagent and was persistance to the acid or alkali hydrolysises. 4. The major oxygen-containing functional groups in humic substances of volcanic ash soils were phenolic-OH alcoholic-OH and carboxyl groups while those in mineral soil were methoxyl and carbonyl groups. 5. Absorption spectra of alkaline solution of humic acid ranged from 200 nm to maxima 500 nm. Visible spectra peaks of from humic substances in the visible region were recognized at 350, 420, 450 and 480 nm. Only one single absorbance peak was observed in the visible region at 362 nm for Heugag series and two absorbance Peak were also at 360 nm and 390 nm for Yeungrag series. 6. Evolution of carbon as $Co_2$ was increased with addition of Na-pyrophosphate in Namweon and Heugag series, and "priming effects" took place on the soil organic matter decomposition by addition of rice straw with albumin in Ido series.

In this paper, to seek a solution of reducing autogenous shrinkage three types of bar restricted concrete specimens which have similar compressive strength were tested. The three type of concrete were plain concrete-P25 type, $10^{\circ}C$ fly-ash replaced concrete-F10 type, and $1^{\circ}C$ expansion admixture replaced concrete-SP1 type, and with the test result an experimental study was conducted to gain the tensile stress of concrete. From the result of P25, SP1, F10 tests, it was found that by the age of 14 the ratios of tensile stress to tensile strength of three specimens are $75^{\circ}C$, $47^{\circ}C$, $52^{\circ}C$ respectively. so we came to a conclusion that the SP1-type concrete has better capacity to reduce autogenous shrinkage than F10-type concrete at similar compressive strength condition.

Recently, it has been increased to construct massive concrete structures, like under-ground structure, offshore structure etc., ie. concrete construction have become larger and higher and are demanding lower heat concrete to prevent thermal cracking. It has been progressed to replace cements with fly-ash and slag to lower heat of hydration, but it is hard to control quality of the mineral admixtures in stage of adjusting of real construction. Application of low heat portland(Belite Rich) cement for the mass concrete is the best solution to satisfied those requirements. Here are explained the basic properties of fresh concrete as well as hardened concrete of using low heat portland cement(LHPC). Also, we compare the results of adiabatic temperature rise test using LHPC and OPC.

The chloride ion penetrating into concrete is classified as the fixed chloride ion being bound in reacting to cement hydrate and the free chloride ion having a direct effect on rebar corrosion because being in solution inside porosity of concrete. Therefore, in order to study the diffusion properties of chloride ion, it is needed to evaluate binding chloride ion in concrete. In this study, we tried to give a fundamental information on diffusion of chloride ion in concrete with mineral admixtures through analysis of micro-structure transformations in concrete and effects on binding of chloride ion in cement paste when mixed with fly-ash, blast furnace slag, silica fume etc. which are used to improve durability and permeability of concrete
