  • Exterior finishing materials of artificial stones are manufactured with the mixture of water, cement, stone powder and light-weight aggregate. In this research, we tried to find a way of increasing the physical properties and decreasing the manufacturing cost of artificial stone. So, we used ${\beta}$-NSF base surfactant and vinsol base surfactant to the artificial stone mixture instead of light-weight aggregate. The optimum dosage of the ${\beta}$-NSF and vinsol surfactants for artificial stone are found to be 1.0 wt % of cement, respectively. The physical properties increased ca. 20% and the durability for freezing & thawing of the new artificial stone increased ca. 300%. While the manufacturing cost of the new artificial stone decreased as much as 30%.

  • Since the first lighting light source was invented, lighting has turned into superior-quality lighting considering the amenity of occupants, and the characteristics of a light source has developed rapidly. So this research confirmed the lighting performance of a dimmer control system and an ON-OFF control system via the existing light source, and analyzed the basic lighting environment of Permanent Supplementary Artificial Lighting of Interiors(PSALI) through the physical comparison and evaluation of a LED lamp substituted for a fluorescent lamp used in a dimmer control system, showing that the lighting physical quantity characteristics of an ON-OFF control system and a dimmer control system are similar to each other and that they are effective in terms of energy saving. Besides, it was shown that introducing a LED light source to a dimmer control system improves lighting environments and largely reduces energy consumption.

  • Light intensity and spectral characteristics of different types of fluorescent lamps were tested to investigate their possibility as the artificial lighting sources for the close illumination applied in the transplant production factory. Photosynthetic photon flux densitiy(PPF), illuminance and irradiance for all lamps decreased logarithmically with an increase of the vertical distance from the lighting source. The fluorescent lamp specially designed plant growth (PG lamp) showed a maximum spectral irradiance at the wavelength of 660nm. However, it showed lower irradiance than that of a standard fluorescent lamp at the range of wavelength between 500 and 600nm. On the other hand, PG lamp showed higher PPF and lower illuminance than those of the standard fluorescent lamp. The maximum peak of spectral characteristics for both of the single and twin three-bind fluorescent lamps was shorn at the wavelength of 545m and the next peaks were shown at the wavelength of 610nm and 435nm, respectively. Since the red fluorescent lamp has a narrower peak at the wavelength of 660nm, it may be useful for the supplementary red lighting. For three of standard, single three-band and twin three-band fluorescent lamps, the values of conversion factor for converting illuminance to PPF fell within the narrow range from 76 to 791x/$\mu$molㆍm$^{-2}$ ㆍs$^{-l}$ . However, for PG lamp, it was 29.71x/$\mu$molㆍm$^{-2}$ ㆍs$^{-1}$. Also, the values of conversion factor for converting PPF to irradiance of fluorescent lamp used in this study ranged between 4.85 and 5.34$\mu$molㆍm$^{-2}$ ㆍs$^{-1}$/Wㆍm$^{-2}$ .

  • A number of antibiotics and organic compounds were tested for their effect on the multoplication of tobacco mosaic virus(TMV) in floating leaf discs. 1)Among six antibiotics tested, kanamycin sulfate showed 24% or more inhibition to TMV multiplication under these experimental conditions. Aureomycin hydrochloride and chloramphenicol showed 19% and 14% inhibition respectively. 2)For screening of organic compounds two environments were used, a diffuse day- light environment (25 foot-candles and laboratory temperature) and an artificial light environment for 12 hours per day(300 foot-candles at 4 to $5^{\circ}C above laboratory temperature). A wide range of organic compounds increased virus multoplication in the diffuse daylight environment but had less effect, or ingibited virus multiplication, in the artificial light environment. 3)The following compounds were among the most effective in increasing TMV multiplication: glucose-1-phosphate, L-aspartic acid, glucose, and 5-bromouracil. The following compoumds were most effective in inhibiting TMT multiplication: thiouracil, uracil, DL-isoleucine, L-leucine, and zinc chloride.

  • Motion recognition is very useful for implementing an intuitive HMI (Human-Machine Interface). In particular, hands are the body parts that can move most precisely with relatively small portion of energy. Thus hand motion has been used as an efficient communication interface with other persons or machines. In this paper, we design and implement a light-weight ANN (Artificial Neural Network)-based hand motion recognition using a state-of-the-art flex sensor. The proposed design consists of data collection from a wearable flex sensor, preprocessing filters, and a light-weight NN (Neural Network) classifier. For verifying the performance and functionality of the proposed design, we implement it on a low-end embedded device. Finally, our experiments and prototype implementation demonstrate that the accuracy of the proposed hand motion recognition achieves up to 98.7%.

  • This experiment was carried out using artificial bed soil and LED in the plastic film house(irradiation time: 07:00-17:00/day). Seedlings(n=63 per 3.3 m2) of ginseng was planted on May 17, 2018. LED was combined with red and blue light in a 3:1 ratio and irradiated with different light intensity(40-160 µmol/m2/s). Average air temperature from April to September according to the light intensity test was 20.4℃-20.9℃. Average artificial bed soil temperature was 20.1℃-21.7℃. The test area where fluorescent lamp was irradiated tended to be somewhat lower than the LED irradiation area. The chemical properties of the test soil was as follows. pH levels was 6.6-6.7, EC levels 0.9-1.3 dS/m and OM levels 30.6-32.0%. The available P2O5 contents was 73.3-302.3 mg/kg. Exchangeable cations K and Ca contents were higher than the allowable ranges and mg content was high in the fluorescent lamp treatment. The photometric characteristics of LED light intensity are as follows. The greater the light intensity, the higher the PPFD(Photosynthetic Photon Flux Density) value, illuminance and solar irradiation. Fluorescent lamp treatment had high illuminance value, but PPFD and solar irradiation were lower than LED intensity 40 µmol/m2/s treatment. The photosynthetic rate increased(2.0-3.8 µmolCO2/m2/s) as the amount of light intensity increased, peaking at 120 µmol/m2/s, and then decreasing. The SPAD (chlorophyll content) value decreased as the amount of light intensity increased, and was the highest at 36.1 in fluorescent lamp treatment. Ginseng germination started on April 5 and took 14-17 days to germinate. The overall germination rate was 68.8-73.6%. The growth of aerial parts(plant height etc.) were generally excellent in the treatment of light intensity of 120-160 µmol/m2/s. The plant height was 41.9 cm, stem length was 24.1 cm, leaf length was 9.8 cm and stem diameter was 5.6 mm. The growth of underground part (root length etc.) was the best in the treatment with 120 µmol/m2/s of light intensity. Due to the root length was long(24.8 cm) and diameter of taproot was thick(18.7 mm), the fresh root weight was the heaviest at 24.8 g. There were no disease incidence such as Alternaria blight, Gray mold and Anthracnose. Disease of Damping-off caused by Rhizoctonia solani occurred 0.6-1.5% and incidence ratio of rusty root ginseng was 30.8-62.3%. It is believed that the reason for the high incidence of rusty root ginseng is that the amount of field moisture capacity of artificial bed soil is larger than the soil. Leaf discoloration rate was 13.7-32.3%.

  • For the artificial removal of air pollutants such as pesticides, environmental toxicants, and pathogenic microorganisms in the greenhouse or the living environment, the accelerated photodegradation and the biocidal effects of some photosensitizers (PS)/photocatalysts (PC) were tested under the sunlight and/or artificial light. The selected photosensitizers/photocatalysts included the semiconductors (PC-1 and PC-2), the oxidizers (PC-3, PC-4, PC-5 and PC-6), the aromatic ketone (PS-7) and the aromatic amine (PS-8). In the case of dichlorvos, all the photocatalysts selected showed more accelerated photodegradation than the control without photocatalysts under both the sunlight and artificial light. Whereas, only the photocatalyst PC-1 accelerated the degradation of methyl tert-butyl ether about 17 times more than the control under both the sunlight and artificial light. Procymidone was much more degraded by the photosensitizer PS-8 and the two photocatalysts (PC-1, PC-6) than by PS-7. In the preliminary experiments to diminish the population of the microorganisms in the air, the photocatalyst PC-1 added to the suspensions of Pseudomonas putida, Phytophthora capsici, and Salmonella typhimurium obviously inhibited the microbial growth under the artificial light. The photocatalyst PC-1 showed a bactericidal activity against Salmonella typhimurium spread on the nutrient broth agar medium. These results suggest that the photosensitizers/photocatalysis under the light can remove some air pollutants and hence they can be used to reduce the exposure of the workers in the horticultural facilities and/or the public in the environment to the harmful pollutants.

  • This paper describes solar light collecting system which employs parabolic reflector and Fresnel lens and its industrial application. We have introduced second-stage optical system so that it makes optical fiber overcome its numerical aperture limitation and also it makes focused light become collimated, which results in decreased light energy density. As result of these, light collecting efficiency become maximized and the system does not require separate cooling apparatus any more. The developed solar lighting system together with artificial light source like LED has been applied to plant factory as a hybrid lighting source. This makes us save electric energy for artificial lighting during day time. The intensity of LED light in the hybrid lighting system is controlled automatically according to ambient-light-sensor installed in the system so that the light intensity for a plant always keeps the same level no matter how the sun light changes. For a plant factory whose size is 330 square meters, when solar lighting system is applied, 28,080KWh electric energy can be saved per month.2 times.
