Alternating magnetic field was used for detection of surface flaws on nonmagnetic and magnetic metallic specimens. The nondestructive sensor probe was composed of the planar coil with inductive magnetic thin film yoke as a sensing component and a single straight typed exciting coil. The planar inductive coil sensor with magnetic yoke was fabricated by sputtering, electroplating, dry etching and photolithography process. The alternative currents with the range of 0.1A to 1.0A (0.7 MHz to 1.8 MHz) were applied to the exciting coil. The specimens were prepared with the slit shaped artificial surface flaws (minimum depth and width; 0.5 mm) on metallic plate (Al; nonmagnetic metal and FeC; magnetic metal). The detected signal for the positions and shapes of surface flaws on specimens were obtained with high sensitivity and high signal to ratio. The measured output signals by the non-contacted scanning on surface of FeC specimen with micron-sized crack were converted to the images of the flaws. And these results were compared with the optical images, respectively.

Ultrasonic pattern recognition is the most effective approach to the problem of discriminating types of flaws in weldments based on ultrasonic flaw signals. In spite of significant progress in the research on this methodology, it has not been widely used in many practical ultrasonic inspections of weldments in industry. Hence, for the convenient application of this approach in many practical situations, we develop an intelligent ultrasonic signature classification software which can discriminate types of flaws in weldments based on their ultrasonic signals using various tools in artificial intelligence such as neural networks. This software shows the excellent performance in an experimental problem where flaws in weldments are classified into two categories of cracks and non-cracks. This performance demonstrates the high possibility of this software as a practical tool for ultrasonic flaw classification in weldments.

The conventional high-frequency testing method is difficult to detect flaw in concrete because the high frequency stress wave is strongly attenuated due to the large grain size and heterogeneous structure. For restoration of this problem, we develop the stu요 of flaw detection in large concrete block containing various artificial flaws by low frequency spectrum anlysis of impact-echo waveforms. This impact-echo testing method is possible to determine the flaw size, shape and location in large concrete block even if required some attention in case of containing reinforcing steel bar.

It has been required to find flaws smaller than $100{\mu}m$ by fracture mechanic consideration. We prepared the infiltrated and sintered SiC structural ceramic specimens including artificial flaws, Fe, pore, WC, Si particles of size ranging from $36{\mu}m$ to $200{\mu}m$. We performed C-scan for the specimen using a high frequency and broad-band ultrasonic transducer to employ polyvinylidene fluoride(PVDF) and a broad-band electric scanning system. The flaws in the ceramic specimens were detected in the high frequency detection field up to 100MHz. But, the flaws were not detected in lower frequency detection field up to 60MHz. The ratio of the detected smallest flaw size to the wavelength calculated at the center frequency, 80MHz, was about 0.25 in Rayleigh scattering region.

This paper describes the analysis results of a series f Round-Robin test that was performed to intercompare inspection and diagnosis techniques for characterization of pressure tube f a pressurized heavy water reactor under the Coordinated Research Project(CRP) of IAEA's nuclear Power Programme. For this test, six nations, Korea, Canada, India, Argentina, Rumania, and China that currently have pressurized heavy water reactors under operation involved, and the "KOR-1" pressure tube sample prepared by Korea was used. Two kinds of NDE technique, ultrasonic and eddy current test, were applied for these tests. The "KOR-1" pressure tube sample contains total 12 artificial flaws such as crack-like EDM notches, wear that is similar to the real flaws and can be produced on the pressure tubes during plant operation. Test results showed that seven laboratories from six nations detected all twelve flaws in "KOR-1" specimen by using ultrasonic and eddy current test methods, and ultrasonic test method was more accurate than eddy current test method in flaw detectin and sizing. ID flaws in pressure tube sample were more easily detected and accurately sized than OD flaws.

The ultrasonic inspection system for the expansion/transition area of steam generator tube was successfully developed. Variety of artificial flaw and real track specimen was tested using the UT system to verify the performance of the system. All artificial flaws of which through-wall depth larger than 10% was clearly detected by UT system. Measurement results of through-wall depth of flaws larger than 20% had good linearity and reproducibility with 3.27 of standard deviation. Results of real crack specimen test suggested that the detection limit of real crack strongly depends on the track morphology. A potential for measurement of PRL(percentage of remaining ligament) was recognized by the real crack specimen test.

With progressive advancements in Man-made consciousness (computer based intelligence) and Profound Learning (DL), contributing altogether to Normal Language Handling (NLP), the precision and nature of Machine Interpretation (MT) has worked on complex. There is a discussion, but that its no time like the present the human interpretation became immaterial or excess. All things considered, human flaws are consistently dealt with by its own creations. With the utilization of brain networks in machine interpretation, its been as of late guaranteed that keen frameworks can now decipher at standard with human interpreters. In any case, simulated intelligence is as yet not without any trace of issues related with handling of a language, let be the intricacies and complexities common of interpretation. Then, at that point, comes the innate predispositions while planning smart frameworks. How we plan these frameworks relies upon what our identity is, subsequently setting in a one-sided perspective and social encounters. Given the variety of language designs and societies they address, their taking care of by keen machines, even with profound learning abilities, with human proficiency looks exceptionally far-fetched, at any rate, for the time being.

Magnetostrictive sensors which can be used effectively to detect flaws in pipe were fabricated. The optimal conditions to obtain the maximum generation efficiency of the ultrasonic wave were established. In case of the used steel pipe the optimal magnetic field was $250{\sim}350Oe$ and the coil width of 15mm showed the best efficiency for generating a wave with the frequency of 180 kHz. In the best condition, the wave can propagate further than 50m without serious attenuation. The amplitude of the ultrasonic wave reflected from artificial flaw had a good linear relationship to the cross-sectional area of the flaw.
Steam generator tubes play an important role in safety because they constitute one of the primary barriers between the radioactive and non-radioactive sides of the nuclear power plant. For this reason, the integrity of the tubes is essential in minimizing the leakage possibility of radioactive water. The integrity of the tubes is evaluated based on NDE (non-destructive evaluation) inspection results. Especially ECT (eddy current test) method is usually used for detecting the flaws in steam generator tubes. However, detection capacity of the NDE is not perfect and all of the "real flaws" which actually existing in steam generator tunes is not known by NDE results. Therefore reliability of NDE system is one of the essential parts in assessing the integrity of steam generators. In this study POD (probability of detection) of ECT system for ODSCC in steam generator tubes is evaluated using multivariate logistic regression. The cracked tube specimens are made using the withdrawn steam generator tubes. Therefore the cracks are not artificial but real. Using the multivariate logistic regression method, continuous POD surfaces are evaluated from hit (detection) and miss (no detection) binary data obtained from destructive and non-destructive evaluation of the cracked tubes. Length and depth of cracks are considered in multivariate logistic regression and their effects on detection capacity are evaluated.
