  • This study deals with the accident models of arterial link sections by vehicle type. The objectives are to analyze the characteristics of accidents, and to develop the models by type. In pursuing the above, this study uses the data of 414 accidents occurred on 24 major arterial links in 2007. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, the number of accidents is analyzed to account for about 47% in passenger car, 15% in SUV and 10% in trucks. Second, 3 Poisson regression models which are all statistically significant are developed using passenger car, SUV and truck as dependant variables. Finally, AADT and the number of traffic islands as common variables, and the number of pedestrian crossings, lanes, connecting roads, intersections(4-Leg), rate of medians and the number of bus stops as specific variables of the models are selected.

  • In this study, the purpose behind this research is to propose index to be used for classification of functional the urban streets and to select the feasible length of special management link by the index. This special management link help decision makers found a transportation policy. In order to perform functional classification, index such as average traveled distance, link VKT and VKT per length-lane are use at the study. Average traveled distance index is average traveled distance divided by length of Path k and VKT per length-lane is trip volume characteristic considering lanes and length of Path k. Special management links on which major part of the vehicle are selected with using Path-VKT which represents how many long-distance touring vehicles are on the arterial road. The selection of special management links are performed with network composed of 14 paths (arterial roads) in seoul The total distance of special management links resulted from the above analysis is 141km(35.0% of the whole paths length) and total VKT of the special management links is 4,152,475 VKT(45.2% of the whole paths VKT)

  • Today travel demand in the City of Pusan is increasing with the wide scope of activity and the better living circumstances as a big city with a population of about 4 million. Also, the transportation problem of Pusan city becomes one of the severest urban problems with travel demand increasing in spite of the continuous expansion of the transportation facilities. The purpose in this study is to find the travel characteristics on the arterial under the study, construct the optimal Transportation System Management(TSM) which could increase the travel capacity of the arterial based upon the optimal travel systems constructed. Thus, it was concluded that more emphasis should be of the automobiles into the Downtown areas, increase the travel capacity of the arterial through Mass Transportation System(MTS) including the HOV lanes or the Bus Exclusive Lanes instead.

  • This study deals with the accident models of arterial link sections by driving type. The objectives is to develop models by driving type using the accident data of 24 arterial links in Cheong-ju. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular emphasis to modeling such the accidents as the straight, lane change and others. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, the number of accidents is analyzed to account for about 59% in straight, 31% in lane change and 10% in others. Second, the number of left-turn lane as common variables, and the ADT, number of pedestrian crossings, connecting roads and link length as specific variables are selected in developing models(number of accident and EPDO). Third, 8 models which are all statistically significant are developed. Finally, RMSE of the driving type models was analyzed to be better than that of dummy variable.

  • This study deals with the traffic accident of arterial link sections in the case of Cheongju. The purpose of the study is to develop the traffic accident model by the function of arterial links. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular attentions to developing the appropriate models using the accident data of main and minor arterial roads divided by 472 small link sections. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, as the t test on the accident characteristics of main and minor arterial roads shows that there are differences in the number of accident and EPDO(equivalent property damage only) between two roads, the development of models by function is analyzed to be appropriate. Second, it is analyzed that ZINB models are all statistically suitable to the number of accident and EPDO of main arterial roads. Third, the analysis shows that EPDOs of minor arterial roads fit to ZINB, and the number of the accident fit to ZIP model. Finally, the common variables of main arterial roads are evaluated to be the traffic volume and the number of inflection point, and those of minor be the average grade.

  • In this study for relieving traffic congestion on the main arterial in Pusan using TSM Techniques, the travel system, roadway system and signal system analyses were dine. Through these above analyses, it was shown that the peak-time periods on the main arterial were shaped between 10 : 00 and 11 : 00 in the morning and between 15 : 00 and 16 : 00 in the afternoon for the business and shopping trips. Especially, there appeared to be about 23% reduction in the average delay when roadway system management including left-turn links increased were done, about 29% reduction in the average delay when signal system management including the signal phases and timings readjusted were conducted, and about 48% reduction in average delay when roadway system and signal system management were taken into consideration simultaneously. Based upon these results, it was concluded that there might be considerably better results in the average delay if the progressive signal system analyses on the arterial were applied with the land and road widths balanced, the difference on the turning vehicles and mid-block volumes readjusted, and roadside parking traffic prohibited.

  • The endothelial to mesenchymal transition (EndMT) is a newly recognized, fundamental biological process involved in development and tissue regeneration, as well as pathological processes such as the complications of diabetes, fibrosis and pulmonary arterial hypertension. The EndMT process is tightly controlled by diverse signaling networks, similar to the epithelial to mesenchymal transition. Accumulating evidence suggests that microRNAs (miRNAs) are key regulators of this network, with the capacity to target multiple messenger RNAs involved in the EndMT process as well as in the regulation of disease progression. Thus, it is highly important to understand the molecular basis of miRNA control of EndMT. This review highlights the current fund of knowledge regarding the known links between miRNAs and the EndMT process, with a focus on the mechanism that regulates associated signaling pathways and discusses the potential for the EndMT as a therapeutic target to treat many diseases.

  • This study deals with the traffic accidents of circular intersections in Korea. The purposes are to comparatively analyze the characteristics by operational type, and to develop the models using the data of 82 intersections. In pursuing the above, this study gives particular emphasis to modeling such the accidents as the roundabout and rotary in urban area. The main results analyzed are as follows. First, the null hypotheses that the number of accidents are the same in both the urban and rural intersections, and roundabout and rotary in urban area, were analyzed to be rejected. Second, 3 accident models were developed, which were all statistically significant. The independent variables used in the above models are the ADT, number of approach lane, bus stop, parking facilities, and others. This study could be expected to give some implications to the traffic safety policy decision-making.

  • The bus probe-based link travel times were more readily available due to bus' fixed route schedule and it was different from that of taxi-based one in its value for the same link. At the same time, the bus-based one showed less accurate information than the taxi-based link travel time, in terms of reliability expressed by 1-RMSE(%) measure. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a heuristic algorithm for mixing both sources-based link travel times. The algorithm used both real-time and historical profile travel times. Real-time source used 4 consecutive periods' average and historical source used average value of link travel time for various congestion levels. The algorithm was evaluated for Seoul urban arterial network 3 corridors and 20 links. The results based on the developed algorithm were superior than the mere fusion based link travel times and the reliability amounted up to 71.45%. Some limitation and future research agenda have also been discussed.
