In this paper, the fundamental features of the arc stability DC arc furnace have been investigated, from the converter point of view. To compare of measurement arc data from DC arc furnace and the advanced arc simulations of magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) and the well known Cassie-Mayr arc model have been extensively used. The MHD based arc simulation has been validated in the subcomponent level, for the free burning arc set up in the laboratory. The arc simulation predicted the arc voltage for different currents with the accuracy which satisfies engineering requirements. It has been shown that the arc current steepness at current zero determines the arc stability, and the associated peak arc resistance can be used as its quantitative measure. Based on the presented insight into the DC arc stability, a converter topology solution which realizes an optimal arc stability has been proposed. The main results presented in this paper provide a design guideline for the future DC arc furnace converter topology developments.
Fundamental features of the arc stability in DC arc furnace of 720V/100kA/72MW have been investigated. Cassie-Mayr arc model has been employed and applied for the target dc arc furnace. In order to characterize the parameters of Cassie-Mayr arc model and the behavior of unstable arc dynamics, the advanced arc simulations of magneto-hydrodynamics (MHD) has been performed. The MHD based arc simulation has been validated in the subcomponent level, for the free burning arc set up in the laboratory. From the results of MHD simulation, dc arc dynamic resistance is proposed to be an effective arc stability function reflecting the instability of dynamic arc behavior. The experimental result confirms the usefulness of proposed dynamic arc resistance as arc stability function. The proposed arc stability function can be regarded as an effective criterion for the overall power conversion system to maintain highly stable arcing operation leading to better productivity and reliability.
A comparison of the ARC metabolizable energy system and the NRC net energy system was made with special reference to growing steers. Two simulation models, one based on the ARC and other on the NRC system, were constructed to examine differences between the energy systems. The average daily live-weight gains predicted from both models for growing steers were compared under various conditions in which equal feeding levels and metabolizabilities were assumed. The two simulation models yielded similar results with very high energy intake with high quality feed. Difference between the two systems became larger as feeding conditions deviated from the above. The ARC system generally predicted higher daily live-weight gains than the NRC system. This appeared to be due to the higher efficiency of utilization of metabolizable energy ($k_m$ and $k_f$) and basal metabolism (F), and lower energy value of growth (EVG) in the ARC system.
In this paper, computer simulations of the physical Phenomena occurring in the arc region before and after current zero were carried out to evaluate the thermal recovery characteristics of a Laval nozzle. A commercial CFD program "PHOENICS" is used for the simulation and the user-coded subroutines to consider the arcing phenomena were added to this program by the authors. The computed results were verified by the comparison with the test results presented by the research group of GE Co.(General Electric Company). In order to investigate the state of the arc region after current zero, the simulation was carried out with three steps. They are steady state arc simulation, transient arc simulation before current zero, and transient hot-gas flow simulation after current zero. The semi-experimental arc radiation model is adapted to consider the radiation energy transport and Prandtl's mixing length model is employed as the turbulence model. The electric field and the magnetic field were calculated with the same grid structure used for the simulation of the flow field. The post-arc current was calculated to evaluate the thermal recovery characteristics after current zero. Compared with the results obtained by GE Co., it has been found that the critical RRRV(ratio of rise of recovery voltage) will be determined previously by this study.his study.
In many countries including Korea, in order to transmit the more electric power, the higher transmission line voltage is inevitable. So, a rapid reclosing scheme is important for EHV/UHV transmission lines to ensure requirements for high reliability of main lines. A critical aspect of reclosing operation is the extinction of the secondary arc since it must extinguish before successful reclosure can occur. Therefore the accurate simulation techniques of arcing faults are of importance. And successful reclosing switching can be accomplished by adopting a proper method such as HSGS and hybrid scheme to reduce the secondary arc extinction time. First of all, this paper discusses a suggested arc model, which have time dependent resistance for primary arc and piecewise linear approximated arc model for secondary arc. And this simulation technique is applied to Korean 765 kV transmission lines. Also hybrid scheme is simulated and evaluated for the purpose of shortening dead time. For adaptive reclosing scheme, variable dead time control algorithm is suggested. Two kinds of algorithm are tested. One is max tracking algorithm and the other is rms tracking algorithm. According to simulation results, rms tracking has less errors than max tracking. Therefore rms tracking is applied to Korean 765 kV transmission lines with hybrid scheme.
Arc-spot welding is generally used in joining of precise parts such as case and core in electronic compressor. It is important to control joining deformation in electronic compressor because clearance control in micrometer order is needed for excellent airtightness and anti-nose. The countermeasures far this deformation in field have mainly been dependent on the rule of try and error by operator's experience because of productivities. For control this deformation problem without influence on productivities, development of exact simulation model should be needed. In this study, to solve this deformation problem in arc-spot welded structure with case and core, we intend to make a simulation model that is able to predict deformation in precise order by tuning and feedback between sensing data and simulation results. This paper include development of heat input model for arc-spot welding, temperature monitoring and make a heat transfer model using sensing data in product.
An arc model based on the N-S equations modified by adding an energy source term to take account of the arc is developed and solved using Taylor-Garlerkin FEM in the present paper. The numerical method is applied to the simulation of the opening procedure of a puffer type GCB. Moving boundary conditions of the arc chamber during operation is taken into account. Numerical predictions of the temperature profiles at different strokes are presented.
This study presents a new method for coupling ArcGIS (popular GIS software) with TRaNsient SYstems Simulation (TRNSYS, reference software for researchers and engineers around the world) to use capabilities of the 4 and 5-parameter PV array performance models within the ArcGIS environment. Using the validated and industry-proven solar energy simulation models implemented in TRNSYS and other built-in ArcGIS functionalities, dynamic characteristics of distributed PV potential in terms of hourly, daily or monthly power outputs can be investigated with considerations of diverse options in selecting and mounting PV panels. In addition, the proposed method allows users to complete entire procedures in a single framework (i.e., a preliminary site survey using 3D building models, shading analyses to investigate usable rooftop areas with considerations of different sizes and shapes of buildings, dynamic energy simulation to examine the performances of various PV systems, visualization of the simulation results to understand spatially and temporally distributed patterns of PV potential). Therefore tedious tasks for data conversion among multiple softwares can be significantly reduced or eliminated. While the programming environment of TRNSYS is proprietary, the redistributable executable, simulation kernel and simulation engine of TRNSYS can be freely distributed to end-users. Therefore, GIS users who do not have a license of TRNSYS can also use the functionalities of solar energy simulation models within ArcGIS.
We suggests an effective method to construct time-varying C-obstacles in the 3-dimensional configuration space (C-space) using free arc. The concept of free arc was defined mathematically and the procedure to find free arc in the case off-dimensional C-space was derived in [1]. We showed that time-varying C-obstacles can be constructed efficiently using this concept, and presented simulation results for two SCARA robot manipulators to verify the efficacy of the proposed approach. In this paper, extensions of this approach to the 3-dimensional C-space is introduced since nearly all industrial manipulators are reasonably treated ill the too or three dimensional C-space f3r collision avoidance problem The free arc concept is summarized briefly and the method to find lice arc in the 3-dimensional f-space is explained. To show that this approach enables us to solve a practical collision avoidance problem simulation results f3r two PUMA robot manipulators are presented.
This paper describes the phenomenon of the molten metal bridge theory of the arc discharge at opening contacts. And we analyze the magnetic force and drag force acting on the arc column in the DC magnetic contactor Arc cooling time by the force convection is calculated in the thermal dynamic equation using mean temperature method. Since arc gas lost conduction characteristics below a such temperature, it verify that the process of forming and extinguishing arc is able to analyze in terms of temperature characteristic by simulation and experiments of the 3 types arc extinction unit. It propose the practical simulation method to improve the electrical endurance of dc contactor.
