Measurement of Residual and Internal Strain of 3-D Braided Hybrid Composite using Embedded FBG Sensor (FBG 센서를 삽입한 3차원 브레이드 하이브리드 복합재료의 잔류변형률 및 내부변형률 측정)

  • Three dimensional circular braided Glass/Aramid hybrid fabric/epoxy resin composite was fabricated. FBG sensor was embedded along the braid yam in order to monitor the internal dimensional changes of the 3-D braid composite. The amount of cure and thermal shrinkage of epoxy resin was also determined using FBG sensor system. FBG sensors with different grating length were embedded and their response were compared. The thermo-optic coefficient of FBG sensor was measured by several preliminary experiments. The internal strain that measured by FBG sensor and electric strain gauge was compared during compressive test. The released residual strain of the fabricated tubular composite was estimated using cutting method. The internal strain of the composite was estimated using FBG sensor system, and the result was compared with the value from electric strain gauge. It was found that FBG sensor system is a very useful technique to investigate inside region of complicated structure.

  • 본 실험에서는 메타 아라미드 섬유의 basic dye에 대한 염색성 특히, 물과 acetophenone을 적용한 수계 염색과 친환경 염색 매개체인 이산화탄소 초임계유체를 사용한 염색을 수행한 후에 염색된 시료에 대한 염색성을 평가하였다. 수계염색의 경우, co-solvent carrier로 acetophenone 사용하였으며, 초임계유체 염색에서는 ethanol을 co-solvent로 사용하였다. 염색된 시료의 염색성 평가는 색차계를 사용하여 실시하였으며, 최대흡수파장에서 표면반사율에 따른 Kubelka-Munk식을 적용하여 K/S값을 계산하였다. 수계 및 초임계 염색에 의해 염색된 시료가 동일한 K/S 값을 가지기 위해서는 초임계염색이 상대적으로 높은 농도의 염료가 요구되어졌다. 또한 UV-vis. 분광분석법과 광학현미경을 통한 염색시료의 염색성의 평가가 이루어졌다.

Flexural Performance of Reinforced Concrete Beams Retrofitted with Different FRPs (섬유 접착 보강 철근콘크리트 보의 보강재료에 따른 휨 성능 비교)

  • This paper deals with the experimental evaluation of the performance of R.C beams strengthened with aramid, glass and carbon fiber sheets. To evaluate the effects of FRPs on the flexural strengthening of the beams, strengthening ratio is adopted as a main variable. Seven beams were fabricated and strengthened under same tensile strength based on ultimate strength of FRPs and strengthening length. Deflection, flexural stiffness, strain of FRP, ultimate load and failure load are compared to evaluate the effects of FRPs on structural behavior of retrofitted beams. The results shows that little effects of FRPs on behavior of strengthened beams can be estimated and the fail modes are more influenced on structural behavior than that.

  • Nominal flexural strength of RC members strengthened with FRP sheets is generally based on the tensile strength of composite materials obtained from coupon tests. This method is based on the assumption that bond failure does not occur until the FRP sheet reaches its rupture strength. According to the previous researches, however, bond failure often occurs before the FRP sheet reaches its rupture strength. Some attempts were made to control debonding failure by increasing the bonded length of sheet or wrapping the section around their side of the member(U-wrap). In this study, the flexural failure mechanism of RC beams strengthened with AFRP sheets with different bond lengths is investigated. Their strengthening details to prevent the premature debonding failure are also suggested and its effectiveness is verified.

  • The polypropylene(PP) fiber is poised as a low cost alternative for reinforcement in structural applications in comparison with other high performance fibers, such as the polyvinyl-alcohol(PVA), polyethylene, carbon and aramid fiber. The mechanical properties of the composite are strongly determined by the interfacial behavior of fiber and cementitious matrix. The crack bridging mechanism contribute to composite toughness from activation of the fiber-matrix interface where energy is dissipated through debonding of the interface and fiber pullout. In this study, therefore, the pullout behavior of PP fibers is investigated. Experimental work includes the investigation of the interfacial properties, and the composite property. The quantification of interfacial properties, the frictional bond is achieved through single fiber pullout test. A study on the effect of inclination angle on fiber pullout behavior is also conducted.

  • We observed internal space charge behavior for two types of epoxy composites under dc electric fields to investigate the influence of water at high temperature. In the case of glass/epoxy specimen, homocharge is observed at water-treated specimen, and spatial oscillations become clearer in the water-treated specimens. Electric field in the vicinity of the electrodes shows the injection of homocharge. In aramid/epoxy specimens, heterocharge is observed at water-treated specimens, i.e. negative charge accumulates near the anode, while positive charge accumulates near the cathode. Electric field is enhanced just before each electrode. In order to further examine the mechanism of space charge formation, we have developed a new system that allows in situ space charge observation during ion migration tests at high temperature and high humidity. Using this in situ system.

The Influence of Resin Mixture Ratio for the Use of Prepreg on the Fatigue Behavior Properties in FRMLs

  • Fiber reinforced metal laminates(FRMLs) were new type of hybrid materials. FRMLs consist of high strength metals(Al 5052-H34) and laminated fiber with structural adhesive bond. The effect of resin mixture ratios on the fatigue crack propagation behavior and mechanical properties of aramid fiber reinforced aluminum composites was investigated. The epoxy, diglycidylether of bisphenol A(DGEBA), was cured with methylene dianiline(MDA) with or without an accelerator(K-54). Eight kinds of resin mixture ratio were used for the experiment ; five kinds of FRMLs(1)(mixture of epoxy and curing agent) and three kinds of FRMLs(2)mixture of epoxy, curing agent and accelerator). The characteristic of fatigue crack propagation behavior and mechanical properties FRMLs(2) shows more effecting than that of FRMLs(1).

  • 부직포의 기공크기에 대한 특성을 측정하기 위해 이미지 프로세싱을 이용하였다. 아라미드부직포와 그 부직포를 시뮬레이션한 부직포에 대해서 기공의 크기를 대표하는 평균 기공크기와 그 분포를 이미지 분석의 두가지 방법으로, 즉, 형태학적인 방법과 기하학적인 방법을 통해 측정해보았다. 아라미드 부직포, 시뮬레이견 부직포이건 상관 없이 부직포의 밀도가 증가함에 따라 기공의 크기특성, 즉 기공의 면적, 수력반경, 그리고 기공내의 최대 내접원의 반경은 감소하였다. 형태학적인 방법과 기하학적인 방법은 부직포의 종류에 상관없이 기공의 크기를 측정함에 있어서 유의한 차이가 없었다. 이는 부직포내의 섬유의 배열방향이 무작위이기 때문이었다. 실제의 아라미드 부직포와 시뮬레이션 부직포의 기공크기에 대한 특성은 서로 비슷한 양상을 보여주었다.

  • 아라미드 레노직물은 컨베이어벨트, 건조벨트, 스크림직물, 전자산업용 이송체 등 여러 산업분야에 사용되고 있다. 레노는 2D 구조의 메쉬 형태 직물이고 치수안정성이 낮다. 그렇기 때문에 치수안정성을 부여할 수 있는 후가공이 필요하며, 현재는 치수안정성을 부여하고 여러 물성보완과 내수성을 향상시키기 위해 PTFE(Polytetrafluoroethylene) 코팅을 하고 있다. 우리는 이러한 PTFE코팅의 영향을 분석하기 위해 강도, 탄성률, 열팽창계수, 내산성 등을 분석하였고, 그 결과 강도와 탄성률, 열팽창계수, 내산성 등이 PTFE 코팅에 의해 향상된 것을 알 수 있었다. 이는 PTFE 코팅에 의해 형태안정성이 향상되었고, 동시에 열적 안정성이 향상되었기 때문인 것으로 판단된다.

Flexural behavior of concrete beams reinforced with aramid fiber reinforced polymer (AFRP) bars

  • Due to the low elastic modulus of FRP, concrete members reinforced with FRP rebars show greater deflections than members reinforced with steel rebars. Deflection is one of the important factors to consider the serviceability of horizontal members. In this study flexural test of AFRP reinforced concrete beams was performed considering reinforcement ratio and compressive strength as parameters. The test results indicated that flexural capacity and stiffness increase in proportion to the reinforcement ratio. The test results were compared with existing proposed equations for the effective moment of inertia including ACI 440. The most of the proposed equations were found to over-estimate the effective moment of inertia while the equation proposed by Bischoff and Scanlon (2007) most accurately predicted the values obtained through actual testing.
