Space-telescopes placed in the Sun-Earth second Lagrange point (L2) observe the sky following a scan strategy that is usually based on a spin-precession motion. Knowing which regions of the sky will be more observed by the instrument is important for the science operations and the instrument calibration. Computing sky observation parameters numerically (discretizing time and the sky) can consume large amounts of time and computational resources, especially when high resolution isrequired. This problem becomesmore critical if quantities are evaluated at detector level instead of considering the instrument entire Field of View (FoV). In previous studies, the authors have derived analytic solutions for quantities that characterize the observation of each point in the sky in terms of observation time according to the scan strategy parameters and the instrument FoV. Analytic solutions allow to obtain results faster than using numerical methods as well as capture detailed characteristics which can be overseen due to discretization limitations. The original approach is based on the analytic expression of the instrument trace over the sky. Such equations are implicit and thusrequiresthe use of numeric solversto compute the quantities. In this work, a new and simpler approach for computing one ofsuch quantities(mean observation time) is presented. The quantity is first computed for pure spin motion and then the effect of the spin axis precession is incorporated under the assumption that the precession motion is slow compared to the spin motion. In this sense, this new approach further simplifies the analytic approach, sparing the use of numeric solvers, which reduces the complexity of the implementation and the computing time.
Massive amount of satellite image processing such asglobal/continental-level analysis and monitoring requires automated and speedy georegistration. There could be two major automated approaches: (1) rigid mathematical modeling using sensor model and ephemeris data; (2) heuristic co-registration approach with respect to existing reference image. In case of ETM+, the accuracy of the first approach is known as RMSE 250m, which is far below requested accuracy level for most of satellite image processing. On the other hands, the second approach is to find identical points between new image and reference image and use heuristic regression model for registration. The latter shows better accuracy but has problems with expensive computation. To improve efficiency of the coregistration approach, the author proposed a pre-qualified matching algorithm which is composed of feature extraction with canny operator and area matching algorithm with correlation coefficient. Throughout the pre-qualification approach, the computation time was significantly improved and make the registration accuracy is improved. A prototype was implemented and tested with the proposed algorithm. The performance test of 14 TM/ETM+ images in the U.S. showed: (1) average RMSE error of the approach was 0.47 dependent upon terrain and features; (2) the number average matching points were over 15,000; (3) the time complexity was 12 min per image with 3.2GHz Intel Pentium 4 and 1G Ram.
The wind-induced dynamic response of large-span flexible structures includes two important components-background response and resonant response. However, it is difficult to separate the two components in time-domain. To solve the problem, a relational expression of wavelet packet coefficients and power spectrum is derived based on the principles of digital signal processing and the theories of wavelet packet analysis. Further, a new approach is proposed for separation of the background response from the resonant response. Then a numerical example of frequency detection is provided to test the accuracy and the spectral resolution of the proposed approach. In the engineering example, the approach is applied to compute the power spectra of the wind-induced response of a large-span roof structure, and the accuracy of spectral estimation for stochastic signals is verified. The numerical results indicate that the proposed approach is efficient and accurate with high spectral resolution, so it is applicable for power spectral computation of various response signals of structures induced by the wind. Moreover, the background and the resonant response time histories are separated successfully using the proposed approach, which is sufficiently proved by detailed verifications. Therefore, the proposed approach is a powerful tool for the verification of the existing frequency-domain formulations.

One of the most important factor to be considered for the analysis of sheet metal forming processes is the tool surface description for arbitrarily- shaped sheet metal parts. In the present study , finite element approach is used to describe the arbitrarily shaped tool surface. In finite element mesh approach, tool surfaces ar, described by finite elements. The finite elements mesh description of the tool surface, which is originally described by CAD data, needs much time and time-consuming graphic operation. The method, however, has been widely used to describe a complex tool surface. In the present study, the contact searching algorithm for the finite element mesh approach is developed based on cell strategy method and sheet surface normal scheme. For the verification purpose, a clover cup drawing, Baden-Baden oilpan problem and a trunk floor drawing were investigated. The computational results based on the finite element approach were compared with the results of available parametric patch approach and experiments.
This research suggests a novel visualization approach utilizing Generative AI to render photorealistic architectural alternatives images in the early design phase. Photorealistic rendering intuitively describes alternatives and facilitates clear communication between stakeholders. Nevertheless, the conventional rendering process, utilizing 3D modelling and rendering engines, demands sophisticate model and processing time. In this context, the paper suggests a rendering approach employing the text-to-image method aimed at generating a broader range of intuitive and relevant reference images. Additionally, it employs an Text-to-Image method focused on producing a diverse array of alternatives reflecting architects' styles when visualizing the exteriors of residential buildings from the mass model images. To achieve this, fine-tuning for architects' styles was conducted using the Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) method. This approach, supported by fine-tuned models, allows not only single style-applied alternatives, but also the fusion of two or more styles to generate new alternatives. Using the proposed approach, we generated more than 15,000 meaningful images, with each image taking only about 5 seconds to produce. This demonstrates that the Generative AI-based visualization approach significantly reduces the labour and time required in conventional visualization processes, holding significant potential for transforming abstract ideas into tangible images, even in the early stages of design.
This paper presents a systematic approach which determines the optimal period to minimize performance measure subject to the schedulability constraints of a real-time control system by formulating the scheduling problem as an optimal problem. The performance measure is derived from the summation of end-to-end response times of processed I/Os scheduled by the static cyclic method. The schedulability constraint is specified in terms of allowable resource utilization. At first, a uniprocessor case is considered and then it is extended to a distributed system connected through a communication link, local-inter network, UN. This approach is applied to the design of an automotive body control system in order to validate the feasibility through a real example. By using the approach, a set of optimal periods can easily be obtained without complex and advanced methods such as branch and bound (B&B) or simulated annealing.

A fire sequencing problem is considered. Fire sequencing problem is a kind of scheduling problem that seeks to minimize the overall time span under a result of weapontarget allocation problem. The assigned weapons should impact a target simultaneously and a weapon cannot transfer the firing against another target before all planned rounds are consumed. The computational complexity of the fire sequencing problem is strongly NPcomplete even if the number of weapons is two, so it is difficult to get the optimal solution in a reasonable time by the mathematical programming approach. Therefore, a genetic algorithm is adopted as a solution method, in which the representation of the solution, crossover and mutation strategies are applied on a specific condition. Computational results using randomly generated data are presented. We compared the solutions given by CPLEX and the genetic algorithm. Above $7(weapon){\times}15(target)$ size problems, CPLEX could not solve the problem even if we take enough time to solve the problem since the required memory size increases dramatically as the number of nodes expands. On the other hand, genetic algorithm approach solves all experimental problems very quickly and gives good solution quality.
Generally speaking, weapon system is defined as a combination of primary system and support system which are evaluated by capability and operational availability respectively. Recently comparison of total life cycle cost shows that logistic support system is proved to be more important than primary system. However, until now systematic approach to support system development has not been applied in the area of developing support system. We need to construct a universal metric for effectiveness of logistic support system and to cut out whatever activities or support elements which do not contribute to the metric. This paper describes a new approach based on system engineering approach to logistic support system and also classifies five factors of failure, stock-out frequency, administrative delay time, active repair time and logistic delay time that have influence on operational availability of logistic support system.

Due to the importance of lead time demand in the design of inventory management systems, researchers and practitioners have paid continuous attention and a few analytic models using the compound distribution approach have been reported. However, since the nature of compound distributions is hardly amenable, the analytic models have been done by non‐recognition of the compound nature of some components to reduce the analytic task. This study concerns some of the important aspects in the analytic models. Through the theoretic examination of the analytic model approach and the comparison with the rigid compound stochastic process approach, this study clarifies the assumptions implicitly made by the analytic models and provides some precautions in using the analytic models. Illustrative examples are also presented.
In oder to analyze the effect of operating conditions on pulverized coal combustion, a numerical study is conducted at the pulverized coal combustor. Eulerian approach is used for the gas phase, whereas Lagrangian approach is used for the particle phase. Turbulence is modeled using standard ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model. The description of species transport and combustion chemistry is based on the mixture fraction/probability density function(PDF) approach. Radiation is modeled using P-l model. The turbulent dispersion of particles is modeled using discrete random walk model. Swirl number of secondary air affects the flame front, particle residence time and carbon conversion. Primary/Secondary air mass ratio also affects the flame front but little affects the carbon conversion and particle residence time. Air-fuel ratio only affects the flame front due to lack of oxygen. Radiation strongly affects the flame front and gas temperature distribution because pulverized coal flame of high temperature is considered.
