  • In modern applications of response data analysis, it has been found that there are stimuli which are independent for some com-binations of levels antagonistic for other and synergistic for some other combinations of levels. Obviously the classical models of stimuli re-sponse function fail to portray such inconsistent behaviour of the stim-uli. The classical model also fail to represent response functions of increasingly synergistic stimuli. Thus it has become necessary to build another type of models to represent relations of both synergistic and an-tagonistc for some combination of levels. This paper will propose a new model that can well explain such inconsistent behaviour of two jointly acting stimuli.

  • In this paper, an application of finite element procedure fur tunnel failure analysis has been studied. The numerical model is applied to the simulation of a series of plane strain laboratory tests on the small scale model of a shallow tunnel. By comparing experimental and numerical results some conclusions are drawn on the effectiveness of the numerical approach. The findings from these numerical experiments show relative differences in the pattern of failure behaviour for shallow tunnels.

  • Various approaches have been applied to transform aquaculture from a manual, labour-intensive industry to one dependent on automation technologies in the era of the fourth industrial revolution. Technologies associated with the monitoring of physical condition have successfully been applied in most aquafarm facilities; however, real-time biological monitoring systems that can observe fish condition and behaviour are still required. In this study, we used a video recorder placed on top of a fish tank to observe the swimming patterns of rock bream (Oplegnathus fasciatus), first one fish alone and then a group of five fish. Rock bream in the video samples were successfully identified using the you-only-look-once v3 algorithm, which is based on the Darknet-53 convolutional neural network. In addition to recordings of swimming behaviour under normal conditions, the swimming patterns of fish under abnormal conditions were recorded on adding an anaesthetic or lowering the salinity. The abnormal conditions led to changes in the velocity of movement (3.8 ± 0.6 cm/s) involving an initial rapid increase in speed (up to 16.5 ± 3.0 cm/s, upon 2-phenoxyethanol treatment) before the fish stopped moving, as well as changing from swimming upright to dying lying on their sides. Machine learning was applied to datasets consisting of normal or abnormal behaviour patterns, to evaluate the fish behaviour. The proposed algorithm showed a high accuracy (98.1%) in discriminating normal and abnormal rock bream behaviour. We conclude that artificial intelligence-based detection of abnormal behaviour can be applied to develop an automatic bio-management system for use in the aquaculture industry.

  • In this paper, behaviour of underground structural systems due to excavation and change of groundwater level is analyzed using finite elements. Equilibrium equations based on the effective pressure theory and transient flow equations considering the groundwater level are derived. Integration equations are derived using Galerkin's approximation and time dependent analysis is employed to compute groundwater level change and pore pressures. This computed pore pressures are employed in equilibrium equations and then finally displacements and stresses are computed. The developed program is applied to analyze the behaviour of ground excavation below the groundwater level. The program is also applied to multi-step excavation at the same model. The results show that the displacements of the ground surface are much influenced by the change of the groundwater level. Therefore, it is concluded that the change of the groundwater level should be considered in order to analyze the behaviour of the underground structural systems accurately

  • This study aims to assess the knowledge of teachers working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) regarding applied behaviour analysis (ABA). The study was concerned with teachers' knowledge of ABA, its application in the classroom, barriers to its use and desired training opportunities and/or resources to enhance teacher application of ABA strategies in the classroom. Data were collected via an online survey completed by 190 teachers with students diagnosed with ASD in British schools. The results revealed overall knowledge of ABA strategies for classrooms, with only some teachers uninformed about the broad use and some key elements, and general familiarity with skills crucial for applying ABA. Actual knowledge of ABA was found to be high. In terms of application of ABA, the majority of the teachers employed a wide range of known strategies. A number of barrier to the application of ABA were noted including a lack of knowledge and training, a lack of administrative support and a lack of time and physical resources. Theoretical knowledge is crucial for practical applications; however, practical training was found to be important to ensure intervention efficacy.

  • Stainless steel exhibits high ductility and strain hardening capacity in comparison with carbon steel widely used in constructions. To analyze the particular behaviour of stainless steel cover-plate joints, an experimental study was conducted. It showed large ductility and complex failure modes of the joints. A non-linear finite element model was developed to predict the main parameters influencing the behaviour of these joints. The results of this deterministic model allow us to built a meta-model by using the quadratic response surface method, in order to allow for efficient reliability analysis. This analysis is then applied to the assessment of design formulae in the currently used codes of practice. The reliability analysis has shown that the stainless steel joint design according to Eurocodes leads to much lower failure probabilities than the Eurocodes target reliability for carbon steel, which incites revising the resisting model evaluation and consequently reducing stainless steel joint costs. This approach can be used as a basis to evaluate a wide range of steel joints involving complex failure modes, particularly bearing failure.

  • Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) is the applied science where strategies are derived from the principles of behaviour and are applied to improve meaningful social behaviours [3]. This study investigates the possible inclusive value of the use ABA in schools in Saudi Arabia. Interviews were conducted with two ABA therapists and a support teacher in order to address this possibility. From the research findings, it emerged how ABA is one of the cognitive-behavioural intervention models and therefore, can be generalised to other disorders or diagnoses and the applied behavioural analysis does have an inclusive value as it structures individualized activities for the increase of both personal and social skills and these activities allow the subject to work on his or her skills, which are, however, absolutely preparatory to the inclusion of the subject in the classroom context.

  • Recently, the buckling is easy to happen a thin plate and High Tensile Steel is used at the steel structure and marine structure so that it is wide. Especially, the post-buckling is becoming important design criteria in the ship structure to use especially the High Tensile Steel. Consequently, it is important that we grasp the conduct post-buckling behaviour accurately at the stability of the ship structure or marine structure. In this study, examined closely about conduct and snap-through behaviour after initial buckling of thin plate structure which apply compressive load according to various kinds initial deflection shape under all edges simply supported condition that make by buckling formula in each payment in advance rule to place which is representative construction of hull. Analysis method is F.E.M in used ANSYS program and complicated nonlinear behaviour to analyze such as secondary buckling with snap-through behaviour. Nonlinear buckling control is applied between newton-raphson method and arc-length method in this study

  • This paper reports an experimental investigation of the behaviour of concrete-encased composite columns subjected to short-term axial load and biaxial bending. In the study, six square and four L-shaped cross section of both short and slender composite column specimens were constructed and tested to examine the load-deflection behaviour and to obtain load carrying capacities. The main variables in the tests were considered as eccentricity of applied axial load, concrete compressive strength, cross section, and slenderness effect. A theoretical procedure considering the nonlinear behaviour of the materials is proposed for determination of the behaviour of eccentrically loaded short and slender composite columns. Two approaches are taken into account to describe the flexural rigidity (EI) used in the analysis of slender composite columns. Observed failure mode and experimental and theoretical load-deflection behaviour of the specimens are presented in the paper. The composite column specimens and also some composite columns available in the literature have been analysed and found to be in good agreement with the test results.
