  • In this study, we developed an application that can efficiently store and manage food ingredients in refrigerators. Rather than purchasing a new smart refrigerator, a small 'pocket scanner' is inserted inside the refrigerator using an existing refrigerator to track the location of food entering and leaving the refrigerator to efficiently organize the refrigerator and save time searching for ingredients. In addition, since it can automatically record the distribution period and purchase date, it notifies users through an alarm when the distribution period expires or is shortly left. As for the research method, after discovering the needs of users through in-depth interviews, the reactions of users were investigated by adding functions that fit those needs. Users felt satisfied with managing food efficiently through the 'pocket scanner' attached to the refrigerator and answered that it was very economical because various smart functions could be used without changing to a smart refrigerator. In the next study, we will also examine the usability of the application through usability evaluation.

  • In software system development, an application interface is the main communication platform between human developers and applications. Interaction in any software application requires human's mental and physical activities. Although software systems have increased drastically in diverse sectors and many forms to quench human's needs and satisfactions, human always concern about the ease in usability of the software application so that it can be easily understood and navigated. Since many software developers still focus on the quantity of contents instead of the quality of the interface from the user's point of view, it is important to address human factors need in the early stage of the design and to continue addressing them during the entire stages of the software design for the persistent support of usability. In this paper, we propose the Modified Prototype Model (MPM), which helps the software designers and developers to design user-friendly software systems with easy-to-navigate interfaces by uncovering human factors in a convenient way. Moreover, we propose methods that assist to identify more human factors regarding software design. In this paper, we also study the implications of the proposed model and the proposed methods.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to introduce the structure and functions of an application developed for enhancing risk knowledge/perception, called KNOWRISK, and to identify and determine problems and requirements based on the usability evaluation results of the application. Method: The evaluation was conducted using the Mobile App Rating Scale (MARS) with a sample of 43 application users and related experts. Result: The application received a satisfactory evaluation score with an overall average of 4.074 points, and there was no significant difference in evaluation scores between experts and users. The highest score was for ease of use at 4.47, while the lowest score was for cost payment usage at 2.88. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that efforts to increase risk knowledge and promote safe behavior using a mobile application can be an effective and efficient strategy for preventing industrial accidents and enhancing safety management.

  • The developments in mobile technology and the increase in the production of smartphones have led to the growth of the mobile healthcare market. Moreover, the number of mobile healthcare apps is on the rise, and users are benefiting from using healthcare, exercise tracking, and body monitoring apps, as well as they have been searching for health information through mobile health apps. This paper evaluated the usability of a symptom checker application that provides information on diseases, treatment methods, and related hospitals through self-diagnosis of symptoms. Symptom checkers are currently being developed, and are widely used overseas. This paper sought to evaluate the usability of a symptom checker app, and suggested ways to introduce enhancements.

  • Since usage of smartphone becomes popular, Ecology of smart media based on smartphone is creating new ecological system of information. This research is for evaluating usability and sustainability of application due to development of smartphone usage in these days. For the research, precedent researches were analyzed and hypothesis were set up based on those researches. Then, iCloud Calendar and Never Calendar, which are two major calendar applications, were evaluated by in-depth interview and measuring task performance time of interviewees, and used these results to verify hypothesis. Then verify hypothesis through the research and analyze which type of users focus on aesthetic impression, and which users focus on usability and practicality. This research is to analyze success and failure points of Calendar Applications' user experience design, and suggests guideline for future transformation of offline to online.

  • Students have to effectively get lots of knowledge and technique for practical education. Usability is one of the most important factors that have to be considered for user-centered design. Students who study design have to recognize the importance of usability and learn the method of problem solving considering usability. For this, the application of project-based and participatory learning for usability education was studied. Study team was organized including graduate, undergraduate, and high school students. Students team identified a research topic, and then studied the topic. Usability evaluation and design improvement was performed in this study. Students could learn usablity evaluation method and design method through the process.

  • Web usability for e-commerce sites becomes a more important issue as e-commerce gains its popularity. As for fresh foods, consumers are especially sensitive to the quality of information during transaction process. Successful fresh food e-commerce sites, such as Wine. com and Tesco, identified regular usability testing as part of key success factors. This paper aims to identify processes for evaluating usability of fresh food e-commerce sites and provide recommendations to improve usability. The study aims to evaluate Web usability of selected Web sites using heuristic evaluation to provide objective Web usability analysis for each transaction process and think aloud method to understand how users actually evaluate the Web site.

  • Given the attributes of mobile apps that shorten the time to make purchase decisions while enabling easy purchase cancellations, usability can be regarded to be a highly prioritized quality attribute among the diverse quality attributes that must be provided by mobile apps. With that backdrop, mobile app developers have been making great effort to minimize usability hampering elements that degrade the merchantability of apps in many ways. Most elements that hamper the convenience in use of mobile apps stem from those potential errors that occur when GUIs are designed. In our previous study, we have proposed a technique to analyze the usability of mobile apps using user behavior logs. We proposes a technique to detect usability hampering elements lying dormant in mobile apps' GUI models by expressing user behavior logs with finite state models, combining user behavior models extracted from multiple users, and comparing the combined user behavior model with the expected behavior model on which the designer's intention is reflected. In addition, to reduce the burden of the repeated test operations that have been conducted by existing developers to detect usability errors, the present paper also proposes a mobile usability error detection automation tool that enables automatic application of the proposed technique. The utility of the proposed technique and tool is being discussed through comparison between the GUI issue reports presented by actual open source app developers and the symptoms detected by the proposed technique.

  • This study exceeds the view on the fragmentary fact-finding surveys related to the application of mobile commerce which further develops the evaluation model of fashion mobile commerce website and considers the validity of comprehensive fashion mobile commerce with quality evaluation factors according to the Task-Technology Fit. To fulfill the study objectives, a total of 433 questionnaires are being conducted to the customers with first-hand experience on fashion merchandises through mobile commerce. The judgement sampling method is employed according to the sample population ages from 20s to 30s during two months period. Based on the results of the above-mentioned path analysis, we have observed the following: First, the path relation analysis results show that the M-marketing (M-marketing) between perceived usabilities had effects to the perceived usability and the M-sales had effects to the perceived usability. Second, as seen from the fashion mobile shopping conformance (TTF), the perceived usability, customer satisfaction, and path pipe analysis result conformances between perceived values and immersions have effects of perceived usability, customer satisfaction and perceived value, and thus, indicate that the perceived usability had effects on the customer satisfaction and immersion. Third, the customer satisfaction, perceived value and immersion all have effects on the purchasing intention.
