The Overall Performance Improvement of Microbial Fuel Cells Connected in Series with Dairy Wastewater Treatment

  • To improve the potential of single chamber microbial fuel cells (SCMFCs) as an applicable technology, the main challenge is a practical application for larger scales bioenergy production from potent exoelectrogenic microorganism with real dairy wastewater. To increase power generation, three individual MFCs were together operated in series best under the fed batch condition for 15 days. The volume of MFC 1 and MFC 2 is "300 mL" and MFC 3 is "500 mL" respectively. The individual MFCs 1, MFC 2 and MFC 3 gives an open circuit voltage of 0.60 V, 0.66 V and 0.55 V and result in total working voltage when connected in series of 1.745V, which lead an LED to glow. The maximum power densities obtained from MFC 1, MFC 2 and MFC 3 are 62 mW/㎡, 50 mW/㎡ and 45 mW/㎡ (normalized to the surface area of the anodic electrode, which was 50 ㎠ for all three MFCs), and corresponding to current densities of 141 mA/㎡, 155 mA/㎡ and 123 mA/㎡, respectively. Therefore this work suggests the cheapest way to connect microbial fuel cells in series to gain power with the lowest operating cost and chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal.

Corrosion resistance improvement of 6061 aluminum alloy using anodizing process

  • Aluminum alloy is a material that is frequently used in the aerospace and transportation industries due to its high mechanical and corrosion resistance qualities. Unfortunately, aluminum alloys are prone to corrosion, limiting their application in some harsh situations such as when submerged in aqueous environments. The purpose of this study is to investigate how anodizing can increase the corrosion resistance of 6061 Aluminum alloy. The anodizing process was carried out using two different parameters which are voltage (5V, 10V, 15V) and electrolyte sulfuric acid (H2SO4) concentration (0.3M, 0.5M) for 1 hour. The anodized samples were performed using several analyses such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, morphology analysis, and corrosion test. From this study, it is found that the difference in anodizing parameters affects the corrosion resistance of the samples. Sample anodized at 15V, 0.5M gives the best corrosion resistance.

  • 순환 전압전류법을 이용하여, 1 mM 인산염 완충용액에서 루테늄-쿠페론 착물의 전기화학적 행동을 살펴보았다. 루테늄 정량의 최적 조건은 1 mM 인산염 완충용액 (pH 6.0), 0.1 mM 쿠페론의 용액에서 주사속도는 100 mV/s 이었다. 이 조건에서 농도 변화에 따른 선형 주사 전압곡선의 환원 봉우리 전류변화를 이용하여 얻은 루테늄의 검출 한계 ($3{\sigma}$)는 $1.2{\times}10^{-7}M$ 이다.

Optimal Design of Trench Power MOSFET for Mobile Application

  • This research analyzed the electrical characteristics of an 80 V optimal trench power MOSFET (metal oxide field effect transistor) for mobile applications. The power MOSFET is a fast switching device in fields with low voltage(<100 V) such as mobile application. Moreover, the power MOSFET is a major carrier device that is not minor carrier accumulation when the device is turned off. We performed process and device simulation using TCAD tools such as MEDICI and TSUPREM. The electrical characteristics of the proposed trench gate power MOSFET such as breakdown voltage and on resistance were compared with those of the conventional power MOSFET. Consequently, we obtained breakdown voltage of 100 V and low on resistance of $130m{\Omega}$. The proposed power MOSFET will be used as a switch in batteries of mobile phones and note books.

다중 감각 미디어 응용 포맷의 구성 방법 연구 (A Study on Multiple Sensorial Media Application Format)

  • 본 논문은 MPEG-A(ISO/IEC 23000) 표준으로 새로이 제정된 다중 감각 미디어 응용 포맷의 구조와 구현에 대해 설명한다. 다중 감각 미디어 응용 포맷은 비디오/오디오 데이터와 더불어 감각 효과 메타데이터의 효과적인 저장, 재생, 관리를 용이하게 한다. 포맷을 구성하기 위해, MPEG-4 파트 12(ISO/IEC 14496-12)의 ISO 기본미디어 파일 포맷과 MPEG-V 파트 3(ISO/IEC 23005-3)의 표준 메타데이터를 사용하였다. 본 논문에서는 MPEG-V 파트 3의 감각효과 메타데이터(SEM)의 샘플화를 위해 SEM XML 문서의 분할과, 분할된 샘플을 이진화하는 방법에 대해 비교 분석한다. 이진화 방법에 대한 비교 분석 결과 MPEG-V 이진표현 방법과 Binary MPEG format for XML(BiM)이 gzip방법에 비해 압축율과 처리시간 등에서 우수한 성능을 보였다.

A Quinoline-thiooxorhodamine Conjugate for Fluorescent Hg2+ Recognition in Aqueous Media and Living Cells

  • A quinoline-thiooxorhodamine conjugate fluorescent sensor (1) has been synthesized. Sensor 1 exhibits high selectivity and sensitivity to $Hg^{2+}$ in $H_2O$/DMSO (95/5, v/v, HEPES 20 mM, pH = 7.4) solution with fluorescence detection. Other tested metal ions do not induce any significant fluorescence intensity changes. Sensor 1 interacts with $Hg^{2+}$ through a 1:1 binding stoichiometry with a good anti-inference ability. In addition, fluorescent imaging of $Hg^{2+}$ in Hela cells is also successfully demonstrated.

의료정보 표준에 기반 한 m-Health 어플리케이션 개발 (Development of m-Health Application based on Medical Informatics Standards)

  • Recently medical consumers pursue high leveled quality of life through active promotion, prevention, management activity of health as the importance of health during home life is emerged to meet the aging society and chronic diseases. In addition, people are directed to the m-Health for managing yourself their health by using smartphone and various personal health devices, if necessary transmits health data to the physician himself. In the previous studies, m-Health Application were developed and applied in the real clinical environment by adopting the medical information standards was rarely conducted. Therefore, in this study, the m-Health application platform was developed. Developed application was communicate with IEEE 11073 standard protocol using the Bluetooth Health Device Profile in personal health device via smart phone to process blood pressure information, and it converted to HL7 V2.6 ORU_R01 message for send to remote medical server. In addition, we tested the interoperability and safety of the developed application for 23 inpatient and 17 outpatient at D University Hospital. As a result, the blood pressure information has been transmitted without error.

비이온계 계면활성제 혼합물의 처리농도가 상토의 수분 보유 및 고추 플러그묘의 생장에 미치는 영향 (Impact of Application Rate of Non-ionic Surfactant Mixture on Initial Wetting and Water Movement in Root Media and Growth of Hot Pepper Plug Seedlings)

  • Polyoxyethylene nonylphenyl ether와 polyoxyethylene castor oil을 1:1(v/v)로 혼합하여 조제한 액상 토양습윤제(LWA)가 피트모스 + 펄라이트(7:3) 상토내 잔류성, 혼합상토의 초기 습윤화 및 고추(Capsicum annuum L. 'Knockwang') 플러그묘의 생육에 미치는 영향을 구명하고자 본 연구를 수행하였다. 토양습윤제의 처리량이 증가할수록 상토의 보수량이 뚜렷하게 증가하였고 본 연구에서 제조한 토양습윤제를 $2.5mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$의 비율로 처리한 구의 보수량이 AquaGroL을 $3.0mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$을 처리한 +대조구와 유사하였다. 처리된 토양습윤제는 처리 후 1 및 2번째 관수에서 대부분 용탈되었고, 10회 관수할 때까지 서서히 낮아지다가 10회 관수 이후에는 매우 낮은 농도로 분석되었다. 개발된 토양습윤제를 처리한 상토에서 관수한 수분의 수직방향으로 하강 속도를 측정한 결과 0.5, 1.0, 및 $1.5mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$의 비율로 처리한 구에서 -대조구보다 월등히 빨랐으나, 토양습윤제의 처리비율이 $2.0mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 이상으로 높아지면 점차 느려지는 경향을 보였다. 습윤제를 처리한 상토를 충분히 관수하고 온실에서 상토의 건조속도를 조사한 결과 무처리구의 건조속도가 가장 빨랐고, 개발된 토양습윤제의 처리비율이 높아질수록 상토의 건조속도가 느렸다. 파종 8주 후에 조사한 고추 플러그 묘의 생육에서 초장은 $0.5mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 처리에서 22.2cm로 가장 컸고, 줄기직경은 $1.0mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 처리에서 3.46mm로 가장 굵었으며, 생체중과 건물중은 $1.0mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 처리구에서 각각 식물체당 3.08g과 0.861g으로 조사되어 다른 시험구에 비해 유의하게 우수하였다. 그러나 $1.5mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$ 이상으로 토양습윤제의 처리량이 높아지면 점차 생육이 저조하였으며, 적정 처리량은 $1.0mL{\cdot}L^{-1}$라고 판단하였다.

Recent Progress on Sodium Vanadium Fluorophosphates for High Voltage Sodium-Ion Battery Application

  • Na-ion batteries are being considered as promising cost-effective energy storage devices for the future compared to Li-ion batteries owing to the crustal abundance of Na-ion. However, the large radius of the Na ion result in sluggish electrode kinetics that leads to poor electrochemical performance, which prohibits the use of these batteries in real time application. Therefore, identification and optimization of the anode, cathode, and electrolyte are essential for achieving high-performance Na-ion batteries. In this context, the current review discusses the suitable high-voltage cathode materials for Na-ion batteries. According to a recent research survey, sodium vanadium fluorophosphate (NVPF) compounds have been emphasized for use as a high-voltage Na-ion cathode material. Among the fluorophosphate groups, $Na_3V_2(PO_4)_2F_3$ exhibited the high theoretical capacity ($128mAh\;g^{-1}$) and working voltage (~3.9 V vs. $Na/Na^+$) compared to the other fluorophosphates and $Na_3V_2(PO_4)_3$. Here, we have also highlighted the classification of Fluorophosphates, NVPF composite with carbonaceous materials, the appropriate synthesis methods and how these methods can enhance the electrochemical performance. Finally, the recent developments in NVPF for the application in energy storage devices and its outlook are summarized.
