  • Successful design, construction and maintenance of geotechnical structure in soft ground and marine clay demands prediction, control, stability estimation and monitoring of settlement with high accuracy. It is important to predict and to estimate the compression index of soil for predicting of ground settlement. Lab. and field tests have been and are indispensable tools to achieve this goal. In this paper, Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) model with Levenberg-Marquardt Algorithm and field database were used to predict compression index of soil in Korea. Based on soil property database obtained from more than 1800 consolidation tests from soils samples, the ANNs model were proposed in this study to estimate the compression index, using multiple soil properties. The compression index from the proposed ANN models including multiple soil parameters were then compared with those from the existing empirical equations.

지반데이터의 활용을 위한 Web GIS 설계 (Design of Web GIS for Geotechnical Data)

  • GIS(Geographic Information System)를 이용하여 공간과 관련된 데이터들을 처리, 분석하고, 이를 정보화하여 의사결정에 이용하려는 많은 응용 예가 있어 많다. 최근에는 이를 일반 사용자들에게까지 폭 넓고 효과적으로 제공하려는 추세를 보이고 있다. 이에 대하여 인터넷을 정보전달 수단으로 하는 Web CIS가 그 대안으로 제시되고 있다. 지반분야에서 또한 Web CIS를 이용하여 지반관련 데이터들을 관리, 분석하고 이들 정보를 폭넓은 사용자들이 활용하도록 하는 방안이 요구되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 지반데이터를 효율적으로 관리, 제공하기 위한 Web GIS 구축 방안을 연구하였다. 이를 위해 지반데이터의 주요 형태인 시추데이터에 대하여 데이터베이스의 효율적인 구조를 제시, 구축하였다. 또한 지반데이터 기반의 Web CIS에서 요구되는 분석 기능들의 구현과, 일반사용자들이 이를 효율적으로 이용할 수 있는 기법을 연구, 개발하여 국내 터널 현장의 자료에 적용한 결과 성공적인 결과를 도출하였다.

  • 현재 국토해양부에서 구축 및 제공 중인 지반정보는 전 국토를 대상으로 약 10만 공 정도이다. 그러나 지반정보 DB가 2차원적인 기능으로 제공되고 있기 때문에 지반의 해석 및 설계 업무에서의 활용성이 부족하다는 지적이 제기되었다. 본 연구에서는 지반정보의 효과적인 활용을 위하여 3차원 공간정보 기술기반의 지반정보 활용시스템을 개발하였다. 먼저, 부산광역시의 만덕과 동래의 일부 지역을 대상으로 지반정보 활용시스템을 적용하였다. 또한, 10명의 지반정보 관련 전문가들로부터 설문조사 및 의견수렴을 시행하여 시스템의 적용성을 검토하였다. 본 연구를 통하여 3차원 기반의 사용자 중심의 지반정보 활용시스템을 개발할 수 있었으며, 적용성 검토 수행을 통하여 활용 가능성을 충분히 확인할 수 있었다.

KICT-type 대구경 샘플러의 해상 적용성 검토 (Application of KICT-type Large Diameter Sampler for Offshore Ground Sampling)

  • A large diameter sampler (KICT-type large diameter sampler) was developed to take undisturbed samples from not only soft ground but also sandy and weathered ground. The KICT-type large diameter sampler was manufactured with the principle of triple core barrel sampling. In this study, the applicability to offshore ground sampling of the KICT-type large diameter sampler was confirmed at Inchoen Port construction site. And, in order to compare the quality of samples taken by the sampler with that of the traditional piston sampler, a series of laboratory tests were performed. From the test results, the samples taken by the KICT-type large diameter sampler showed higher quality than the traditional thin-walled tube samples.

Application of an integro-differential equation to the analysis of geotechnical problems

  • An important class of problems in the field of geotechnical engineering may be analyzed with the aid of a simple integro-differential equation. Behavior of "rigid" piles(say concrete piles), "deformable" piles(say gravel piles), pile groups, pile-raft foundations, heavily reinforced earth, flow within circular silos and down drag on cylindrical structures (for example the crusher unit of a mineral processing complex) are the type of situations that can be handled by this type of equation. The equation under consideration has the form; $$\frac{{\partial}w(r,\;z)}{{\partial}z}+f(z){\int}^z_0g({\xi})(\frac{{\partial}^2w(r,\;{\xi})}{{\partial}r^2}+\frac{1}{r}\frac{{\partial}w(r,\;{\xi})}{{\partial}r})d{\xi}+h(r,\;z)=0$$ where w(r, z) is the vertical displacement of a soil particle expressed as a function of the polar cylindrical space coordinates (r, z) and the symbols f, g and h represent soil properties and the loading conditions. The merit of the analysis is its simplicity (both in concept and in application) and the ease with which it can be expressed in a computer code. In the present paper the analysis is applied to investigate the behavior of a single rigid pile to bedrock. The emphasis, however, is placed on developing the equation, the numerical techique used in its evaluation and validation of the technique, hereafter called the ID technique, against a formal program, CRISP, which uses the FEM.

An analytical model for assessing soft rock tunnel collapse risk and its engineering application

  • The tunnel collapse, large deformation of surrounding rock, water and mud inrush are the major geological disasters in soft rock tunnel construction. Among them, tunnel collapse has the most serious impact on tunnel construction. Current research backed theories have certain limitations in identifying the collapse risk of soft rock tunnels. Examining the Zhengwan high-speed railway tunnel, eight soft rock tunnel collapse influencing factors were selected, and the combination of indicator weights based on the analytic hierarchy process and entropy weighting methods was obtained. The results show that the groundwater condition and the integrity of the rock mass are the main influencing factors leading to a soft rock tunnel collapse. A comprehensive fuzzy evaluation model for the collapse risk of soft rock tunnels is being proposed, and the real-time collapse risk assessment of the Zhengwan tunnel is being carried out. The results obtained via the fuzzy evaluation model agree well with the actual situation. A tunnel section evaluated to have an extremely high collapse risk and experienced a local collapse during excavation, verifying the feasibility of the collapse risk evaluation model. The collapse risk evaluation model proposed in this paper has been demonstrated to be a promising and innovative method for the evaluation of the collapse risk of soft rock tunnels, leading to safer construction.

Grouting diffusion mechanism in an oblique crack in rock masses considering temporal and spatial variation of viscosity of fast-curing grouts

  • Grouting method is an effective way of reinforcing cracked rock masses and plugging water gushing. Current grouting diffusion models are generally developed for horizontal cracks, which is contradictory to the fact that the crack generally occurs in rock masses with irregular spatial distribution characteristics in real underground environments. To solve this problem, this study selected a cement-sodium silicate slurry (C-S slurry) generally used in engineering as a fast-curing grouting material and regarded the C-S slurry as a Bingham fluid with time-varying viscosity for analysis. Based on the theory of fluid mechanics, and by simultaneously considering the deadweight of slurry and characteristics of non-uniform spatial distribution of viscosity of fast-curing grouts, a theoretical model of slurry diffusion in an oblique crack in rock masses at constant grouting rate was established. Moreover, the viscosity and pressure distribution equations in the slurry diffusion zone were deduced, thus quantifying the relationship between grouting pressure, grouting time, and slurry diffusion distance. On this basis, by using a 3-d finite element program in multi-field coupled software Comsol, the numerical simulation results were compared with theoretical calculation values, further verifying the effectiveness of the theoretical model. In addition, through the analysis of two engineering case studies, the theoretical calculations and measured slurry diffusion radius were compared, to evaluate the application effects of the model in engineering practice. Finally, by using the established theoretical model, the influence of cracking in rock masses on the diffusion characteristics of slurry was analysed. The results demonstrate that the inclination angle of the crack in rock masses and azimuth angle of slurry diffusion affect slurry diffusion characteristics. More attention should be paid to the actual grouting process. The results can provide references for determining grouting parameters of fast-curing grouts in engineering practice.

Calibration Chamber System을 이용한 KICT-type LPT 장비의 거동분석 (Evaluation of KICT-type Large Penetration Test using Calibration Chamber System)

  • It is well known that the standard penetration test (SPT) has been used in all over the world to get geotechnical properties of the ground. However, it is difficult to apply the SPT to the dense sand, gravel, weathered rock, etc. For the application of the SPT in these grounds, it is necessary to change in the diameter and the impact energy of the SPT. For the improvement of site investigation technology, Large Penetration Testing device (KICT-type LPT) was developed and applied to the in situ condition. The drop height and weight of the hammer in developed system were decided as 760mm and 150kg, respectively. And the developed sampler has the inner diameter of 63 mm and the length of 500 mm with the adjustment of energy ratio to the SPT of 1.5. In this study, the performance of KICT-type LPT was evaluated by using a calibration chamber system and pile driving analyzer (PDA)

절개사면에서 전기비저항 토모그래피 적용 기법 (A Technical Application of Resistivity Tomography in Cut Slope)

  • 천매암 및 편암으로 구성된 기지의 절개사면에서 제시된 이상대는 사면 하단부에 설정된 전류원과 상단부의 전위전극으로 하는 단극-쌍극자 배열을 이용한 전기비저항 토모그래피 방식으로 파악되었다. 해석 방법은 각 측선에서 얻어진 측정 자료를 가지고 3차원 전기비저항 역산 방법으로 하였다. 각 측선에 따른 영상들을 볼 때, 사면의 중앙부에 위치한 단층은 사면에 거의 수직인 방향으로 연장된 영상들로 제시되었다. 수치모델링 결과에서 이상대의 영상들은 절개사면에서 제시된 위치에 매우 정확한 결과들로 보여 주었으며, 단층은 절개사면으로부터 거리가 멀어질수록 지표로부터 그 심도가 깊어지는 경향으로 나타났다.

  • 최근 서울 및 대도심지에서는 도로함몰과 동공 같은 지반재해가 빈번히 발생되고 있다. 이에 따라 정부차원의 해결책으로 지하공간통합지도 제작에 관한 연구가 진행 중에 있다. 한편, 지하공간통합지도의 근간이 되는 지반정보는 국토지반정보 통합DB센터에 22만 공 이상의 시추공DB로 구축되어 있다. 이러한 지반정보를 토대로 3차원 지하공간통합지도를 구축하기 위해서는 지반정보의 정밀도 검증 및 평가를 통한 신뢰성 확보가 우선시된다. 이로 인해 기 구축된 지반정보 DB에 대한 정밀도 검증 및 평가에 대한 연구가 수행된 바 있으며, 최근에는 지반정보를 3차원으로 가시화하기 위한 지반정보의 정밀도 분석에 더불어 활용 방안에 대하여 검토된 바 있다. 본 연구에서는 이에 나아가 지반정보의 정밀도 향상 방안을 수립하여 선행 연구 결과를 토대로 신뢰성 있는 3차원 지하공간통합지도의 구축을 위한 지반정보의 정밀도 향상 모듈을 제시하고자 한다.
