  • Various fundamental and practical theories and technologies are needed for the development of Best Management Practices (BMPs) to manage the problems. The objectives of this paper was to investigate the effect of fertilizer and Non-point suource (NPS) pollution discharges from the field. The effect of fertilizer application was measured with respect to 10 % and 20 % slopes, respectively, using artificial rainfall simulator. The effect of fertilizer application on runoff was not significant because the effect of slope and rainfall intensity were overwhelmed. Runoff from 20 % plots was 21 % larger than that from 10 % plots. While groundwater discharge from 10 % plots was about 70 % larger than that from 20 % plots. It was concluded that runoff and groundwater discharge were largely affected by slope. T-N concentration in groundwater was much higher than that in runoff for both 10 % and 20 % plots. While T-P concentration in groundwater was lower than that in runoff. It explained that T-N moved well through soil pores without adsorption and other chemical reactions but T-P was well adsorbed on the surface of soil particles.

  • Sand dam is a successful water harvesting method in mountainous areas with ephemeral rivers. The success is dependent on several factors including material type, hydrogeology, slope, riverbed thickness, groundwater recharge, and streamflow. In this study, the effect of a sand dam on the groundwater level in the Chuncheon area, South Korea was assessed using the MODFLOW model. Using the model, multiple scenarios were tested to understand the groundwater head before and after the construction of the sand dam. The effect of groundwater abstraction before and after sand dam construction and the sand material type were also assessed. The results show, the groundwater level increases substantially after the application of a sand dam. The comparison of model outputs, simulated groundwater head before and after sand dam application with and without pumping well, shows a clear difference in the head. The material type has also an effect on the groundwater head. As the conductivity of the material increases, the head showed a significant rise.

  • The current study was carried out to investigate the impact of extraction conditions on the free amino acid level and type in beef longissimus muscle. The sample blocks were chiller aged for 1 d and 7 d at $4^{\circ}C$. There are three homogenization speeds (11,000, 19,000 and 24,000 rpm) for bigger and two speeds (11,000 and 13,000 rpm) for smaller homogenizer's dispersing tools were used for evaluation. Results showed that chiller ageing greatly (p<0.05) increased extractable free amino acids, except cystine. Homogenization with the bigger dispersing tool at 24,000 rpm resulted in the highest free amino acid levels for both 1 and 7 d samples. Significant differences (p<0.05) in the mean values of most amino acids due to the effect of speed and interactions between ageing times. However, the speed effect and interaction between ageing with homogenization speed were not significant (p>0.05) for most of the amino acids except valine and isoleucine when using the smaller dispensing tools. The current data indicated that a standardized method for free amino acid types and levels of aged beef samples. In addition, the results also suggested that utilization of a big dispensing tool at high homogenization speed is a better condition for releasing free amino acid contents in beef samples.

  • We will introduce the surface magneto-optic Kerr effect (SMOKE), which is one of the most helpful experimental methods in the area of surface magnetism for the last two decades. The basic magnetic characteristics of magnetic thin film is the most essential part for the further understanding and application. For example, the possibility of the realization of ferromagnetism for a single layer of iron, its Curie temperature far below that of bulk iron, and the direction of easy axis are the fundamental questions for the spintronic application. SMOKE is an efficient method to answer for the questions above.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine usability as potted flowers and garden plants by controlled plant height using growth retardants. There was no significant difference on the dwarfing effect according to the degree of exposure the sun, but growth was well under full exposure to the sun. The plant height was decreased by application of Cycocel (CCC), Bonzi (paclobutrzol), Ancymidol, and Uniconazole compared to the control group, and treatment of Bonzi $5mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ was most dwarfing effect for both full sun exposure or 70% controlled shading condition. No consistent different was found in stem diameter, leaf color change, the content of chlorophyll and anthocyanin when the concentration of plant growth retardants was altered. These factors were affected only by light intensity. In comparison to the results of the control group, leaf length, leaf width, plant width and petiole length were all reduced by the application of growth retardants.

  • Shinisan has been used for treatment of allergic disease in Oriental Medicine. However, its effect in experimental models remains unknown. The mast cell plays a pivotal role in initiating allergic response by secreting intracytoplasmic granular mediators such as histamine. The present report describes an inhibitory effect of Shinisan on mast cell-mediated immediate type allergic reactions. Topical application of compound 48/80 can induce an ear swelling response in normal ($WBB6F_1-+/+$) mice but not in the congenic mast cell-deficient $WBB6F_1-W/W^v$ mice. Shinisan inhibited concentration-dependently mast cell-dependent ear swelling response induced by compound 48/80. Shinisan inhibited concentration-dependently passive cutaneous anaphylaxis induced by anti-dinitrophenyl (DNP) IgE in rats by topical application. Shinisan also inhibited concentration-dependently the histamine release from the rat peritoneal mast cells by compound 48/80 or anti-DNP IgE. Moreover, Shinisan had a significant inhibitory effect on compound 48/80-induced systemic anaphylactic reaction. These results indicate that Shinisan inhibits immediate-type allergic reactions by inhibition of mast cell degranulation in vivo and in vitro.

  • This paper presents an application of the maturation effect on the strength of high-strength concrete which is produced with different origin aggregates. While investigating the maturation effect on HSC 384 specimens were prepared with 22 different origin aggregates. These prepared specimens were subjected to the standard compressive tests which were applied after curing for 2, 7, 28, and 56 days under appropriate conditions. The test results revealed that bright surface-low adherence behavior is valid in normal strength concretes, but is not as effective as expected in high-strength concretes. The application of artificial neural networks (ANNs) to predict 2, 7, 28, and 56 day compressive strength of HSC is also investigated in this paper. An ANN model is built, trained, and tested using the available test data gathered from experimental studies. The ANN model is found to predict 2, 7, 28, and 56 days of compressive strength of high-strength concrete well within the ranges of the input parameters considered. These comparisons show that ANNs have strong potential as a feasible tool for predicting the compressive strength of high-strength concrete within the range of the input parameters considered.

  • A small pot experiment, filled with one hundred fifty gram of Cd amended soil, was conducted in order to learn the effect of combined application of lime and organic matter and of calcium silicate on Chinese cabbage(Brassica pekinensis, Var. Seoul, Heungnong, Miho 70 days). Results obtained are as follows: 1. The application of lime without organic matter depressed the growth of cabbage at the first and second harvests, but, at the later part of third harvest the growth was facilitated so as to harvest very good yield. 2. The combined application of lime and organic matter gave not only a good growth of cabbage from the first crop, but also lowered the cadmium content of dry cabbage bellow that of cabbage harvested from the plot applied with slaked lime alone. Those effect of combined application of both materials were lasted untill the third harvest. 3. Although gave little effect on soil pH, calcium silicate raised a normal good cabbage, and depressed the cadmium content of dry cabbage, by 0.21 me per 100g, which is higher than that of slaked lime plot cabbage, but within the range of no harm to cabbage growth. 4. The control and organic matter plots resulted in a remarkable soil pH drop and high cadmium content in dry cabbage, which lead the crop to a death from the second crop. 5. A negative correlation was observed between the contents of cadmium and calcium in dry cabbage crop, but positive correlations between those of cadmium and magnesium or cadmium and potassium. These relations were grown up as the harvesting were proceeding.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of oxadiazon, molinate, thiobencarb before seeding on control of red rice and barnyardgrass in water-seeded rice. High application rate plot among oxadiazon treatment plots could observe phytotoxicity symptoms depending on field conditions, but these injury recovered gradually with time. Molinate and thiobencarb application plots at the concentration of 225~400, 210~420g ai/l0a respectively were not observed phytotoxicity. Control of red rice was different according to kinds of herbicides and application rates. Oxadiazon showed higher control performance at the concentration of more than 60g ai/10a. Control effect of molinate and thiobencarb against red rice was enhanced with the increase of application rate, and both herbicides showed satisfactory effect at more than 300g ai/10a. Control of barnyardgrass showed up to 90~100% in all tested herbicides. There was no significant yield reduction by oxadiazon, molinate, and thiobencarb application before seeding in all tested field. In the pot experiment, crop injury, seedling stand, and early growth were more advantageous at time of drainge after one day after seeding than flooding until rooting.

  • This study is empirically intended to look into the effects of smart factory technologies on quality and innovation performance in small and medium-sized Enterprises(SMEs). The research results are as follows. Device and application technologies for smart factory had a positive effect on the information quality and system quality, while platform technologies had an insignificant effect on the information quality and system quality, rejecting the effect of platform technologies for smart factory on information quality and system quality. Device technologies for smart factory had also a significant effect on innovative performance, while platform and application technologies had an insignificant effect on innovative performance, rejecting the effect of platform and application technologies for smart factory on innovative performance. The system quality had a significant effect on innovative performance, while the information quality had an insignificant effect on innovative performance. The quality played a partial mediating role in the effect of device technologies for smart factory on innovative performance. These results indicate that small and medium-sized venture firms should implement a high standard of information quality management(IQM) through interconnection as the kernel of a smart factory in the 4th revolutionary era, and that they can improve their corporate performance through the interlocking between components from manufacturing design to execution and analysis and the integrated management of systematic information collected from devices if necessary.
