  • The co-channel digital radio-relay system improves effectively the use of radio frequency allocations by transmitting signals separately on both orthogonal allocations, and thereby not only the total transmission capacity of frequency band but also its bandwidth effciency are almost doubled, compared tothe interleaved digital radio-relay system. Therefore, the study on the development and application of the con-channel scheme is of importance, for the efficient use of limited frequency bnad. In this paper, we derived the eqations for calculating fade margin as a function of path length as well as error performance in terms of the outage probability for co-channel digital radio-relay system below 10GHz. And, simulation was given to demonstrate how to apply those equations to the real situation.

  • A computer program is developed for the prediction of the aerodynamic performance and the noise characteristics in the basic design step of axial flow fan. The flow field and the performance of fan are analyzed by using the streamline curvature computing scheme with total pressure loss and flow deviation models. Fan noise is assumed to be generated due to the pressure fluctuations induced by wake vortices of fan blades and to radiate via dipole distribution. The vortex-induced fluctuating pressure on blade surface is calculated by combining thin airfoil theory and the predicted flow field data. The predicted performances, sound pressure level and noise directivity patterns of fan by the present method are favorably compared with the test data of actual fan. Furthermore, the present method is shown to be very useful in optimizing design variables of fan with high efficiency and low noise level.

  • The water level control of a steam generator in the unclear power plant is an important process. Most of the water level controllers of the actual plant are PID controllers. But they have limitations in appling for tracking the set point and getting rid of disturbances, so there are some defects to apply in the actual ground even though many research works represented the resolutions to solve it. In this paper, it is suggested that the established simple PID controller in low power has the ability to remove disturbances and trace the set-point, and then possesses the real-time self-tuning function according to the variety of moving peculiarity of a plant. This function realized by making use of fuzzy logic. PID parameters are formulated by a variable ${\alpha}$ and made it fluctuate by a fuzzy inference according to level error and level error change. This mechanism makes application of actual plant effective as well as taking advantage of improving the efficiency of water level controller by way of adding the function of self-tuning instead of replacing PID controller. The computer simulation of this scheme shows the improved performance compare to conventional PID controller.

  • The seismic-induced failure of a dam could have catastrophic consequences associated with the sudden release of the impounded reservoir. Depending on the severity of the seismic hazard, the characteristics and size of the dam-reservoir system, preventing such a failure scenario could be a problem of critical importance. In many cases, the release of water is controlled through a reinforced-concrete intake tower. This paper describes the application of a static nonlinear procedure known as the Capacity Spectrum Method (CSM) to evaluate the structural integrity of intake towers subject to seismic ground motion. Three variants of the CSM are considered: a multimodal pushover scheme, which uses the idea proposed by Chopra and Goel (2002); an adaptive pushover variant, in which the change in the stiffness of the structure is considered; and a combination of both approaches. The effects caused by the water surrounding the intake tower, as well as any water contained inside the hollow structure, are accounted for by added hydrodynamic masses. A typical structure is used as a case study, and the accuracy of the CSM analyses is assessed with time history analyses performed using commercial and structural analysis programs developed in Matlab.

  • Nowadays computer technology is being applied in various areas of apparel design. In particular, since the task of pattern making is to be performed by a set of predefined drawing rules, the effect of computer application in pattern making will be significant, There have been a large number of studies on pattern making program. For instance, the previous studies have developed computer programs for pattern making of women's wear, men's wear, children's wear, Han-Bok, etc. Most of them have focused on the development of computer program for a particular kind of apparel only and, however, have disregarded the feasibility of developing a multi-purposed computer program so that is just can be modified to adopt for various styles. For example, by widening the hem-wide of the basic H-Line skirt and then connecting its waist line and widened hem-wide, we can draw the A-Line skirt. Therefore, we have developed a program which can make a pattern for the basic skirt and can mae, with a slight change of he program, other patterns for various style as well. The objective of this paper is to identify and organize modules which will be used for developing a general pattern making computer system. This general pattern making system is a computer program by which we can draw a variety of apparel styles. This system is restricted to skirt pattern making only. there presentation scheme used in organizing these modules is an AND-OR tree, the one being often used in representing a complex problem in artificial intelligence domain.

  • The study was focused on the development of computational scheme in three dimensional configurations by applying effective heat capacity model to the numerical procedure in order to predict the temperature profiles of a buried pipeline and the frozen penetration depth(FPD) of a freezing soil medium. To realize this, the investigator conducted the unsteady state heat transfer analysis, using the commercial code ABAQUS, for the freezing granite soil medium including a pipeline in a closed system. The proposed model took into consideration the phase change effect of in situ pore water in the frozen fringe. The comparison of results obtained by the proposed model and the actual performances was valuable in establishing a level of confidence in the application of introduced theory.

  • Since query language is used as a handy tool to obtain information from a database, a more intelligent query answering system is needed to provide user-friendly and fault-tolerant human-machine Interface. Frequently, database users prefer less rigid querying structure, one which allows for vagueness in composing queries, and want the system to understand the intent behind a query. When there is no matching data available, users would rather receive approximate answers than a null information response. This paper presents a knowledge abstraction database that facilitates the development of such a fault-tolerant and intelligent database system. The proposed knowledge abstraction database adepts a multilevel knowledge representation scheme called the knowledge abstraction hierarchy(KAH), extracts semantic data relationships from the underlying database, and provides query transformation mechanisms using query generalization and specialization steps. In cooperation with the underlying database, the knowledge abstraction database accepts vague queries and allows users to pose approximate queries as well as conceptually abstract queries. Specifically. four types of vague queries are discussed, including approximate selection, approximate join, conceptual selection, and conceptual Join. A prototype system has been implemented at KAIST and is being tested with a personnel database system to demonstrate the usefulness and practicality of the knowledge abstraction database in ordinary database application systems.

  • Crack generation during die compaction and distortion during sintering have been critical problems for the conventional pressing and sintering process. Until now, trial and error approach with engineers' industrial experiences has been only solution to protect the crack generation and distortion. However, with complexity in shape and process it is very difficult to design process conditions without CAE analysis. We developed the exclusive CAE software (PMsolver/Compaction) for die compaction process. The accuracy of PMsolver is verified by comparing the finite element simulation results with experimental results. The simplified procedures to find material properties are proposed and verified with iron based powder and tungsten carbide powder. Based on the accurate simulation result by PMsolver, the optimal process conditions are designed to get uniform density distribution in a powder compact after die compaction process by using a derivative based optimization scheme. In addition, the effect of non-uniform density distribution in a powder compact on distortion during sintering is shown in case of the fabrication of tungsten carbide insert.

  • The advantages of using natural circulation (NC) as a cooling system, has prompted the worldwide development to investigate this phenomenon more than before. The interesting application of the NC in low power experimental facilities and research reactors, highlights the obligation of study in these laminar flows. The inherent oscillations of NC between hot source and cold sink in low Grashof numbers necessitates stability analysis of cooling flow with experimental or numerical schemes. For this type of analysis, numerical methods could be implemented to desired mass, momentum and energy equations as an efficient instrument for predicting the behavior of the flow field. In this work, using the explicit, implicit and Crank-Nicolson methods, the fluid flow parameters in a natural circulation experimental test loop are obtained and the sensitivity of solving approaches are discussed. In this way, at first, the steady state and transient results from explicit are obtained and compared with experimental data. The implicit and crank-Nicolson scheme is investigated in next steps and in subsequent this research is focused on the numerical aspects of instability prediction for these schemes. In the following, the assessment of the flow behavior with coarse and fine mesh sizes and time-steps has been reported and the numerical schemes convergence are compared. For more detail research, the natural circulation of fluid was modeled by ANSYS-CFX software and results for the experimental loop are shown. Finally, the stability map for rectangular closed loop was obtained with employing the Nyquist criterion.

  • This study selected Joongchon Village in Gimje-si as a target, in order to apply green village design regarding regional circumstances and features within the local government, in making green village as an efficient scheme in aspect of locality for 'Low Carbon, Green Growth'. Subsequently, we conducted survey and analysis. Natural circulation-based green village of Joongchon Village in Gimje-si is a low carbon green village, based upon eco-friendly cattle shed. Even though it is the fact that the initial costs of an eco-friendly cattle shed are rather high, it is the long-term low carbon green technology that can transform livestock night soils into resources, provide them to agricultural farms, independently supply energies from by-product, and produce energies additionally. Therefore, Joongchon Village in Gimje-si is the good example of green village, applying the design which actively utilizes discharged by-product from cattle shed, so natural circulation and energy production are able as an eco-friendly green technology.
