  • By means of Monte Carlo simulation, we investigate the effects of interface roughness and temperature on the exchange bias and coercivity in ferromagnetic (FM)/antiferromagnetic (AFM) bilayers. Both exchange bias and coercivity are strongly dependent on interface roughness. For a perfect uncompensated interface a domain wall is formed in the AFM system during FM reversal, which results in a very small exchange bias. However, a finite interface roughness leads to a finite value of the exchange bias due to the existence of pinned spins at the AFM surface adjacent to the mixed interface. It is observed that the exchange bias decreases with increasing temperature, consistent with the experimental results. It is also observed that a bump in coercivity occurs around the blocking temperature.

  • In this paper we review the neutron scattering work performed on 3 different antiferromagnetic pyrochlores which reveal how the character of the magnetic interactions plays a major role on the eventual outcome of the magnetic ground state. $Tb_2Ti_2O_7$, $Er_2Ti_2O_7$ and $Y_2Mo_2O_7$ have all been extensively studied over the past 15 years and are known to display, respectively, spin liquid, long range ordered and glassy ground states. Although detailed experiments have been performed on these compounds, and much is known about their low temperature properties, a detailed theoretical understanding of their ground states remains elusive.

  • The magnetic properties of amorphous Fe were investigated by examining the electronic structures of structurally disordered Fe systems generated from crystalline bcc and fcc Fe using a Monte-Carlo simulation. As a rst principles band method, the real space spin-polarized tight-binding linearized-mun-tin-orbital recursion method was used in the local spin density approximation. Compared to the crystalline system, the electronic structures of the disordered systems were characterized by a broadened band width, smoothened local density of states, and reduced local magnetic moment. The magnetic structures depend on the short range configurations. The antiferromagnetic structure is the most stable for a bcc-based disordered system, whereas the noncollinear spin spiral structure is more stable for a fcc-based system.

  • We have performed the simulation of ferromagnetic resonance spectra on the exchange coupled bilayer thin films at perpendicular configuration. Variables considered in spectrum calculation were the interfacial exchange constants per unit area, the layer thickness, and the surface anisotropy constants. In case of antiferromagnetic coupling, variation of exchange constant gave a great effect to the absorption spectra of the low and the high magnetization layer. Variation of thickness in low magnetization layer did nt nearly influenced the resonated field of the high magnetization layer. Also, the increase of negative surface anisotropy increased the resonance field of the low and the high magnetization layer.

  • The output characteristics of thin film NiO/NiFe bilayered magnetoresistive device have been measured as a function of the direction of external magnetic field. Each layer was fabricated by rf magnetron sputtering method, and especially, the under layer, NiO, was fabricated under the in-situmagnetic field of about 1000Oe. The magnetoresistive devices were designed with the angle of 45degree between the direction of current of the device pattern and the induces magnetic field in the NiO film layer. The output of the devices had a good linearity when the devices were placed on the external magnetic field perpendicular to induced field direction and also 45 degree with the currenr path direction.

  • Recently, we have seen a rapid advance in the evolving field of spin electronics (or spintronics). In spintronics, some feasibilities of new electronic applications utilizing spin degree of freedom have been explored. Diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs) are premising materials for spintronics because they have both charge and spin degree of freedom in a single substance. DMSs are refereed to semiconductor alloys in which some atoms are randomly substituted for by magnetic atoms. (omitted)

  • The magnetisation behaviour of polycrystalline permalloy/copper multilayers with mixed antiferromagnetic/ferromagnetic coupling was investigated as function of temperature. The results are discussed in a framework of a realistic model of anitferromagnetically coupled layers connected by ferromagnetic pinholes. A microstructure of pinholes (their density and dimensions) was varied either by a proper annealing treatment or by choosing samples with various Cu spacer thicknesses. It was demonstrated that the temperature changes of the net magnetic moment measured in a magnetic field smaller than the saturation field was strongly affected by the composition of the pinholes, their density, cross-sectional area and their lengths.

  • The magnetic and transport properties far single crystals of Ru-doped mono-layered manganites $La_{0.5}Sr_{1.5}-Mn_{1-x}Ru_xO_4$ (0$\leq$$\chi$$\leq$0.1) have been studied using neutron diffraction and magnetization measurements. Temperature dependent magnetization data reveal that with an increase in the Ru concentration the parent charge ordered antiferromagnetic state is gradually destroyed and new ferromagnetic phase evolves. In the low Ru-doped system spin glass behavior is apparent in low temperature region, which is confirmed by ac and do magnetization measurements. The competing magnetic interaction between Mn/Mn and Mn/Ru couples is the most likely cause of the spin glass transition.

  • Nature of phase transition in $LaVO_3$ has been studied using X-ray diffraction, SQUID magnetometer, and $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectroscopy with 1% of $^{57}Fe$ doped sample. The crystal structure was orthorhombic with space group Pnma. Antiferromagnetic phase transition temperature $T_N$ was 140K, below which a weak ferromagnetic trace has been found. $M\"{o}ssbauer$ spectra below $T_N$ were single set of hyperfine sextet, which enabled us to discard the possibility of two inequivalent magnetic sites or uncompensated antiferromagnetism. Hyperfine magnetic field abruptly disappeared as low as about 90K, much below $T_N$.
