  • Advancements in additive manufacturing technology, notably for its efficiency, accuracy, automation, and streamlined procedures, are increasingly relevant in civil engineering. This study evaluates the mechanical properties of 316L stainless steel bolted connections fabricated using Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) additive manufacturing. Eleven single-lap bolted connection specimens were tested under monotonic loading to assess the influence of various factors, including plate thickness, manufacturing direction, bolt end and edge distances, and bolt quantity, on the connections' anti-sliding and shear capacities. Material tests conducted prior to the connection tests revealed that PBF-manufactured stainless steel plates possess higher yield and ultimate strength, as well as greater elongation capacity, compared to traditional stainless steel plates. The connection tests indicated that the anti-sliding coefficient values range from 0.348 to 0.698, aligning with current standards for stainless steel bolted connections. Three distinct failure modes were identified: net section failure in the stainless-steel plate, bolt shear failure, and plate shear failure. It was determined that existing standards for anti-sliding capacity may not be entirely applicable to PBF-manufactured connections. Therefore, a modified model for the anti-sliding capacity of these connections is proposed. Additionally, a more accurate formula for calculating their shear capacity, which addresses the oversight of friction forces in current standards, is introduced.

  • The slope of an open cut tunnel is located above the exit of the Leijia tunnel on the Changgan high-speed railway. During the excavation of the open cut tunnel foundation pit, the slope slipped twice, a large landslide of 92500 m3 formed. The landslide body and unstable slope body not only caused the foundation pit of the open cut tunnel to be buried and the anchor piles to be damaged but also directly threatened the operational safety of the later high-speed railway. Therefore, to study the stability change in the slope of the open cut tunnel under heavy rain and excavation conditions, a 3D numerical calculation model of the slope is carried out by Midas GTS software, the deformation mechanism is analyzed, anti-sliding measures are proposed, and the effectiveness of the anti-sliding measures is analyzed according to the field monitoring results. The results show that when rainfall occurs, rainwater collects in the open cut tunnel area, resulting in a transient saturation zone on the slope on the right side of the open cut tunnel, which reduces the shear strength of the slope soil; the excavation at the slope toe reduces the anti-sliding capacity of the slope toe. Under the combined action of excavation and rainfall, when the soil above the top of the anchor pile is excavated, two potential sliding surfaces are bounded by the top of the excavation area, and the shear outlet is located at the top of the anchor pile. After the excavation of the open cut tunnel, the potential sliding surface is mainly concentrated at the lower part of the downhill area, and the shear outlet moves down to the bottom of the open cut tunnel. Based on the deformation characteristics and the failure mechanism of the landslides, comprehensive control measures, including interim emergency mitigation measures and long-term mitigation measures, are proposed. The field monitoring results further verify the accuracy of the anti-sliding mechanism analysis and the effectiveness of anti-sliding measures.

  • This work aims to develop a dry lubricant for oilless bush, especially a solid lubricant, thereby creating a coating method with improved properties of anti-friction and load-carrying capacity without oil lubrication. In this work, spherical-shaped powders of thermosetting resin such as polyimide (PI) are mixed with a binder matrix obtained by mixing a fluorocarbon compound resin such as Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) or Ethylene tetra fluoro ethylene (ETFE) with itself or with a non-fluorocarbon thermoplastic resin such as Polyether ether ketone (PEEK). And these dry lubricant mixtures are thickly coated (200-300 mm in the thickness) on the inner surface of the bush by using a wet-typed air-spray deposition method. It was found that the load-carrying capacity of the solid lubricant for excavator bush (60 mm in diameter) that operates under a high load condition (at 40 MPa) is greatly improved owing to the spherical-shaped powders of thermosetting resin. In addition, the coefficient of friction at the sliding surface is also reduced less than 0.1. Thick coating also lowers the contact stress at the edge of a bush that results in better tribological performances. The result suggests that the lubrication performance and durability life of the bush can be remarkably improved even without lubrication (oil or grease).

  • This paper was analized the thermal conductivity of polystylene (TENSAR- GEOGRID) embeding into the subbase through frost penetration depth, frost heave, change of bearing capacity, and soil moisture movement due to freezing, thawing and icing actions, and their results were as follows : 1.The change of temperature into the sub-base was much increased by the Tensar-Geogrid insertion, and the frost penetration and frost heave were decreased as the thinner of the insulation thickness but the thawing velocity of melting period was appeared to be faster in case of non-insulated. 2.The frost heave had a close relationship with the thickness of insulations which was reasonably included anti-frost effects. 3.The moisture content during the freezing period of upper layer of the insulation insertion was increased by 15 per cent but it was returned to initial state of the thawing period, and at the down layer temporarily increased by 10 per cent and returned to the original state at once. 4.The insulation was acted as a function of distribution of surcharge, and the settlement of the sub-base was about 1.5 mm under 15 tonnage of load and which was included within the allowable limits. 5.The sliding resistance due to the icing which was induced by the insulation insertion into the sub-base was appeared as more 40 per cent than noninsulation area, so that the insulations should be restricted on the place such as mountains, curved and cross area which were required the braking power under the traffics.
