Objectives : The research was conducted to confirm the effect of Acanthopanax senticosus harms(ASH) on the anti-tumor activities in AGS human gastric cancer cells. Methods : To examine the potential anti-tumor effect of ASH, we performed many experiments. After processing AGS cancer cells with varying concentrations 80% ethanol ASH extract, analyses by MTT, flow cytometer(FACS) and western blot were used. Results : AGS cancer cells showed decreased cell proliferation and increased contents of S phase when treated with ASH. Moreover, the Western blot experiment showed that ASH affected S phase cell cycle-related molecules(Cyclin A, p21 and p16) in AGS cells. ASH also inhibited EGFR-STAT3 pathway in AGS human gastric cancer cells. Conclusion : Based on these results, we observed that ASH arrested the cell cycle at S phase and inhibited the phosphorylation of EGFR and STAT3 proteins which reduce the cell cycle and the manifestation of the genes that are related to inhibiting cell growth in AGS cells. It can be concluded that ASH can be used in developing medicine for gastric cancer.

Experimental study was carried out in an atmospheric pressure, laboratory-scale dump combustor showing features of combustion instabilities. Flame structure and heat release rates were obtained from OH emission spectroscopy. Qualitative comparisons were made between line-integrated OH chemiluminescence image and Abel-transformed one. Local Rayleigh index distributions were also examined. Mean temperature, normalized standard deviation and temperature fluctuations were measured by coherent anti-Stokes Raman spectroscopy (CARS). To see the periodic behavior of oscillating flames, phase-resolved measurements were performed with respect to the pressure wave in the combustor. Results on system damping and driving characteristics were provided as a function of equivalence ratio. It also could be observed that phase resolved temperatures have been changed in a well-defined manner, while its difference between maximum and minimum reached up to 280K. These results would be expected to play an important role in better understanding of driving mechanisms and thermo-acoustic interactions.
Most progesterone enzyme immunoassays(EIA) are used liquid phase double-antibody separation. These methods consume considerable time and reagents because of the requirements for several washing and centrifugation steps involving the reactants. Because of there several problems, we were prompted to develop an effective EIA system by the use of higher titer of progesterone antiserum free of anti-bovine serum albumin antibodies (anti-BSA). The results obtained were as follows. 1. The antibody of progesterone antiserum was high as $1.5{\times}10^5$. 2. Percent activity bound of progesterone antiserum was about 77 at a dilution to $5{\times}10^3$ times. 3. Progesterone antiserum was contained a large amount of anti-BSA antibodies. 4. The anti-BSA was completely absorbed by using of polymerised BSA. 5. The molecular weight of albumin polymer (polymerised BSA) obtained by using 2.5% glut. araldehyde was $5{\times}10^5$.

This paper describes an analysis of the effectiveness for an anti-ARM technique to protect a radar system. We investigate the optimum deployment of decoy antennas which are widely using for anti-ARM and the electromagnetic field at the ARM receiver. To verify the effect of decoy antennas, we analyze the field intensity and phase at the receiver and develop a numerical simulation program using Matlab. We conduct an analysis of ARM attack in case of using multiple decoy antennas and these results can be used to decide the optimum positions of the decoys for anti-ARM.
The anti-cancer effects of heat-killed Enterococcus faecium KU22001 (KU22001), KU22002, and KU22005 isolated from human infant feces were investigated. The anti-proliferative activity of these strains against various cancer cell lines was evaluated using the MTT assay. To determine the production of exopolysaccharides (EPS) with potential anti-cancer effect, ethanol precipitation and phenol-sulfuric acid method was used with the cell free supernatant of strains grown at 25℃ or 37℃. The EPS yield of E. faecium strains was higher at 25℃ than at 37℃. Among these E. faecium strains, KU22001 grown at 25℃ was associated with the highest bax/bcl-2 ratio, effective apoptosis rate, cell cycle arrest in the G0/G1 phase, and condensation of the nucleus in the cervical cancer HeLa cell line. In conclusion, these results suggest that KU22001 can be beneficial owing to the anti-cancer effects and production of functional materials, such as EPS.
Novel pyrazolinecarbothioamide (5) was synthesized from chalcone (3) which was prepared from 2'-hydroxy-1'-acetonaphthone (1) and 2-methoxy benzaldehyde (2). Treatment of pyrazolinecarbothioamide (5) on HCT116 cancer cell showed upregulation of p21 and downregulation of cyclin D1 protein. Flowcytometer analysis revealed that pyrazolinecarbothioamide (5) controls the expression of cell cycle regulatory proteins, which blocks cell cycle progression of HCT116 cancer cell at the G1 phase.
A various 2-arylmethylpropionic acds(profen) have been widely used as non-steroidal anti-inllammatory drugs for the relief of acute and chronic rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. as well as for other connective tissue disorders and pains. Example is fenoprofen. ibuprofen, ketoprolen, and naproxen. All are chiral and, except for naproxen. are marketed in racemic form. Enantioseparations of profens have been of considerable interest because their anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects have been attributed almost exclusively to their (S)-enantiomer. (omitted)
Anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory effects of Clematidis Radix (CR)-distillates were investigated in three different pain animal models. Highly purified distillate of CR was injected to Zusanli (ST36) acupoint, called CR herb-acupuncture in the Korean traditional medicine. In tail flick latency test, the CR herb-acupuncture treatment did not show a significant effect of relieving acute phasic pain. To investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of CR herb-acupuncture, inflammatory pain was induced by subcutaneous injection of formalin to the plantar tissue or intra-articular injection of carrageenan to the tibio-tarsal joint in the rats. And the medicinal effect of CR herb-acupuncture was evaluated by analyzing pain behavior such as licking or biting behavior, or by measuring weight distribution ratio between two foot and ankle circumference. In the rat formalin test, the analgesic effect of CR herb-acupuncture was more pronounced in the late phase (for 20 min after the early phase) than in the early phase (for the first 10 min post formalin injection). It also significantly alleviated the carrageenan-induced monoarthritis, in terms of weight distribution ratio and ankle edema. These results revealed that CR herb-acupuncture was effective to treat the inflammatory pain and could be used as an analgesic treatment with an antiinflammatory effect.
Since a liquid-phase LPG injection system allows accurate control of fuel injection and increase in volumetric efficiency, it has advantages in achieving higher engine power and lower emissions compared to the mixer type LPG supplying system. However, this system also leads to an unexpected event called icing phenomenon which occurs when moisture in the air near the injector freezes and becomes frost around the nozzle hole due to extraction of heat from surrounding caused by instant fuel vaporization. As a result, it becomes difficult to control air/fuel ratio in engine operation, inducing exacerbation of engine performance and HC emission. One effort to mitigate icing phenomenon is to attach anti-icing injection tip in the end of nozzle. Therefore, in this study, the effect of engine operation parameters as well as surrounding conditions on icing phenomenon was investigated in a bench test rig with commercially-used anti-icing injection tips. The test results show that considerable ice was deposited on the surface near the nozzle hole of the anti-icing tip in low rpm and low load operating conditions in ambient air condition. This is because acceleration of detachment of deposited ice from the tip surface was induced in high load, high rpm conditions, resulting in decrease in frost accumulation. The results of the bench testing also demonstrate that little or no ice was formed at surrounding temperature below a freezing point since the absolute amount of moisture contained in the intake air is too small in such a low temperature.
Background: The authors showed in a previous study that some novel triazine derivatives had an anti-inflammatory effect. The present study was designed to evaluate the antinociceptive effect of five out of nine compounds including two vanillintriazine (5c and 5d) and three phenylpyrazole-triazine (10a, 10b, 10e) derivatives which showed the best anti-inflammatory effect. Methods: Male Swiss mice (25-30 g) were used. To assess the antinociceptive effect, acetic acid-writhing, formalin, and hot plate tests were used after intraperitoneal injection of each compound. Results: All compounds significantly (P < 0.001) reduced acetic acid-induced writhing at tested doses (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg). Also, the percent inhibition of writhing in the acetic acid test showed that at the maximum tested dose of these compounds (200 mg/kg), the order of potencies is as follows: 10b > 10a > 10e > 5d > 5c. In the formalin test, compounds 5d, 10a, and 10e showed an antinociceptive effect in the acute phase and all compounds were effective in the chronic phase. In the hot plate test, compounds 5c, 5d, and 10a demonstrated an antinociceptive effect. Conclusions: The results clearly showed that both vanillin-triazine and phenylpyrazole-triazine derivatives had an antinociceptive effect. Also, some compounds which showed activity in the early phase of formalin test as well as in the hot plate test could control acute pain in addition to chronic or inflammatory pain.
