  • For the evaluation of far-field performance by using the near-field probing on the base station dipole array antenna, the effects of mutual coupling depending on the heights between the array antenna with reflector and the probe were analyzed. When the height is varied in the near-field region, S parameters on the input ports of antenna and probe are measured and analyzed to decide the height for the minimum mutual coupling effect and the maximum probing efficiency. This height will be applicable to the near-field probing system design to achieve the precision far-field performance of a base station array antenna system.

  • In this paper, printed antenna which can be applied to a built-in wireless module of the security controller operating at global positioning system(GPS) L1 frequency band(1.575GHz) is proposed. The proposed antenna is basically composed of a microstrip patch antenna with inserting feed. In particular left and right slots which are respectively asymmetric are used for impedance matching, whereas slot with one open-end and shorting point are used on the bottom plane to set operating frequency and enhance bandwidth. It is observed at the desired GPS L1 frequency band that the radiation efficiency and gain of the proposed antenna are 90% and more than 4.8dBi respectively.

  • Intensive researches on multiuser-based Massive MIMO are performed to increase the spectral efficiency. Although the Massive MIMO scheme based on huge number of antennas inevitably causes hardware and computational complexity in baseband and radio frequency (RF) elements, the problem can be mitigated without serious performance degradation by limiting the number of baseband and RF elements below the number of transmit antennas of base station and opportunistically selecting transmit antennas according to channel states. Accordingly, this paper proposes a simple antenna selection scheme for multiuser-based Massive MIMO systems.

  • In this paper, a new rectenna is presented for the wireless transmission of microwave power using dipole antenna (Quasi Yagi effect) and rectifier of CPS resonator structure. The dipole antenna with CPW feedline has high peak gain than a general dipole antenna. A ground plane of CPW is used to reflect a dipole as a Yagi antenna. Therefore, the new rectenna receives the RF power better than the one using general dipole. A RF-to-DC conversion efficiency of 61 % using a 1.4 $k{\Omega}$ load resistor is obtained at 5.8 GHz.

  • In this paper, the characteristics of the horn antenna for the high power transfertation system is stuided and several kinds of a horn antenna are compared and finally a conical hem antenna using multi-mode is proposed. In the high power system, the efficiency of power transfer is very important. Therefore the feeding hem of a reflector must have a circular symmetric radiation pattern. And the side lobe must be suppressed to reduce a spillover power loss and interference. By using multi-mode in a circular hem antenna, the whole length can be shorter and the radiation pattern can be adjusted according to the shape and direction of a reflector. This is confirmed by the experiments.

  • In this paper, a study was conducted on the power amplifier control required to design an eLoran transmitter system using a low-height antenna. The eLoran transmitter developed during the eLoran technology development project conducted in Korea used a small 35 m antenna due to the difficulty of securing a site for antenna installation. This antenna height is very low compared to the height of 750 m which is required for eLoran 100 kHz signal transmission without any radiation loss. In the case of using such a small antenna, not only the radiation efficiency of the transmission is lowered, but also the power module control must be performed more precisely in order to transmit the eLoran standard signal. The equivalent RLC circuit of the transmitter system was implemented and transient analysis was conducted to derive the input required voltage for satisfying the output requirement. The voltage waveform was also generated by the RLC circuit analysis to generate the eLoran signal. Furthermore, we suggest power width modulation method to control eLoran power amplifier module more sophisticatedly.

  • An ultra-wideband (UWB) circular monopole antenna with a multiband-notched characteristic is proposed. The multiband-notched filter consists of three different sized folded slots, which are distinctly assigned for the notched band at the 3.5-GHz WiMAX, 5-GHz WLAN, and 8-GHz ITU bands. The proposed antenna results in a measured ${\mid}S_{11}{\mid}$ < -10 dB, which completely covers the UWB band (3.1 10.6 GHz) with three notched bands at 3.5, 5.5, and 8.0 GHz. The antenna yields an omnidirectional radiation pattern and high radiation efficiency.

  • A case study of an active transmitting patch antenna revealed a characteristic loop locus of DC power versus RF output power as drive frequency was varied, with an operational bandwidth substantially smaller than the impedance bandwidth of the radiator. An approximate simulation technique, based on separation of the output capacitance of the power transistor, yielded easily visualized plots of power dependence on internal load impedance, and a simple interpretation of the experimental results in terms of a near-resonance condition between the output capacitance and output packaging inductance.

  • A general analysis of an aperture-coupled vertically mounted strip antenna is presented to examine its circuit characteristics. Based on the present analysis, an equivalent circuit model is developed, and an analytic or semi-analytic evaluation of the related circuit element values is described. The effects of structure parameters on the antenna characteristics were studied with the developed equivalent circuit, and the design curves were obtained. To check the validity of the proposed analysis and design theory, two C-band antennas (5.0 GHz and 4.5 GHz) were designed and fabricated. Their computed characteristics, derived from the proposed network analysis, were compared with the measurement and simulation results. The error of the current model in predicting the operating center frequency was less than 0.50 %. In addition, the observed bandwidth was found to be comparable to the conventional microstrip antennas. All the results fully validated the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed analysis and network model.

  • This paper presents a novel scheme that quickly searches for the sweet spot of multiple array antennas, and locks on to it for high-speed millimeter wavelength transmissions. The proposed method utilizes a modified genetic algorithm, which selects a superior initial group through preprocessing in order to solve the local solution in a genetic algorithm. TDD (Time Division Duplex) is utilized as the transfer method and data controller for the antenna. Once the initial communication is completed for the specific number of individuals, no longer antenna's data will be transmitted until each station processes GA in order to produce the next generation. After reproduction, individuals of the next generation become the data, and communication between each station is made again. Simulation results confirmed the efficiency of the proposed method.
