Flow and transport at fracture intersections, and their effects on network scale transport, are investigated in three-dimensional random fracture networks. Fracture intersection mixing rules complete mixing and streamline routing are defined in terms of fluxes normal to the intersection line between two fractures. By analyzing flow statistics and particle transfer probabilities distributed along fracture intersections, it is shown that for various network structures with power law size distributions of fractures, the choice of intersection mixing rule makes comparatively little difference in the overall simulated solute migration patterns. The occurrence and effects of local flows around an intersection (local flow cells) are emphasized. Transport simulations at fracture intersections indicate that local flow circulations can arise from variability within the hydraulic head distribution along intersections, and from the internal no flow condition along fracture boundaries. These local flow cells act as an effective mechanism to enhance the nondiffusive breakthrough tailing often observed in discrete fracture networks. It is shown that such non-Fickian (anomalous) solute transport can be accounted for by considering only advective transport, in the framework of a continuous time random walk model. To clarify the effect of forest environmental changes (forest type difference and clearcut) on water storage capacity in soil and stream flow, watershed had been investigated.

When a variable message signs (VMS) system displays false information related to traffic safety caused by malicious attacks, it could pose a serious risk to drivers. If the normal message patterns displayed on the VMS system are learned, it would be possible to detect and respond to the anomalous messages quickly. This paper proposes a method for detecting anomalous messages by learning the normal patterns of messages using a bi-directional generative pre-trained transformer (GPT) network. In particular, the proposed method was trained using the normal messages and their system parameters to minimize the corresponding negative log-likelihood (NLL) values. After adequate training, the proposed method could detect an anomalous message when its NLL value was larger than a pre-specified threshold value. The experiment results showed that the proposed method could detect malicious messages and cases when the system error occurs.
Using gridded wind-stress products constructed by satellite scatterometers (ERS-1, 2 and QSCAT) data and those by numerical weather prediction(NWP) model(NCEP-reanalysis), we estimate wind-driven transports of the North Pacific subtropical gyre, and compare them in the central portion of the gyre (around 300 N) with geostrophic transports calculated from historical hydrographic data (World Ocean Database 2005). Even if there are some discrepancies between the wind-driven transports by the QSCAT and NCEP products, they are both in good agreement with the geostrophic transports within reasonable errors, except for the regional difference in the eastern part of the zone. The difference in the eastern part is characterized by an anticyclonic deviation of the geostrophic transport resulting from an anti-cyclonic anomalous flow in the surface layer, suggesting that it is related to the Eastern Gyral produced by the thermohaline process associated with the formation of the Eastern Subtropical Mode Water. We also examine the consistency of the Sverdrup transports estimated from these products by comparing them with the transports of the western boundary current, namely the Kuroshio regions, in previous studies. The net southward transport, based on the sum of the Sverdrup transports by QSCAT and NCEP products and the thermohaline transport, agrees well with the net northward transport of the western boundary current, namely the Kuroshio transport. From these results, it is concluded that the Sverdrup balance can hold in the North Pacific subtropical gyre.
Non-Fickian (or anomalous) diffusion was observed in transient sorption of aromatic solvents(such as benzene, toluene, and chlorobenzene) in fluoropolymers (such as ETFE, ECTFE and PVDF). In this study, five other transient sorption models (Crank, Long & Richman, Berens & Hopfenberg, Neogi, Li) based on Fick's law were employed to fit the anomalous sorption data for aromatic solvents. The adjustable parameters were determined by least square analysis of the measured and predicted fractional uptake. For ETFE sorption data slightly deviating from Fickian behavior, all the models exhibited satisfactory results in fitting the anomalous sorption data. In particular, Neogj model predicted intrinsic diffusivity (0.4~0.8$\times$10$^{-5}$$\textrm{cm}^2$/day) and equilibrium diffusivity (0.13~0.31$\times$10$^{-4}$$\textrm{cm}^2$/day) as well as relaxation kinetics related to non-Fickain diffusion. For a typical sigmoidal sorption behavior in PVDF, only Crank's model could give the reasonable evaluation on transport properties. The ratio of intial diffusivity (D$_{i}$) to final equilibrium diffusivity (D$_{\infty}$) was ranged from 80 to 200. For the final stage of uptake In ECTFE with drastic acceleration, all the models exhibited significant deviations from the sorption data. New diffusion models based on thermodynamics and continuum mechanics should be employed to get valuable information on transport properties as well as relaxation kinetics coupled with non-Fickian diffusion.

Compatibility of polymeric materials governs their suitability for nearly all potential applications. An aspect of compatibility that is frequently important for fluoropolymers is their ability to isolate fluids by serving as a barrier to mass transport. This property is commonly expressed as permeability. In ideal cases, both solubility and diffusivity are constant at any given temperature and so the permeability is also a constant.(omitted)
We have studied magnetic and transport properties of NbN/FeN/Cu/FeN/FeMn spin-valve structure. In-plane magnetic moment exhibited typical hysteresis loops of spin valves in the normal state of NbN film at 20 K. On the other hand, the magnetic hysteresis loop in the superconducting state exhibited more complex behavior in which exchange bias provided by antiferrmagnetic FeMn layer to adjacent FeN layer was disturbed by superconductivity. Because of this, the ideal superconducting spin-valve effect was not detected. Instead the stray field originated from unsaturated magnetic states dominated the transport properties of NbN/FeN/Cu/FeN/FeMn multilayer.

Over the North East Asia, extreme anomalous precipitation were observed in 2013 and 2014. During 2013 summer the precipitation was found to be higher (two standard deviation) than the climatological mean of the region; whereas during 2014, which was a borderline El Ni?o year, precipitation was found to be lower (one standard deviation). To understand the differences of these two anomalous years the Global/Regional Integrated Model system (GRIMs) has been used. The study found that low landsurface temperature and high sea-surface temperature over ocean caused a smaller land-sea contrast of surface temperature between East Asia and North West Pacific Ocean in 2014, which could have caused an eastward shift of mean monsoon circulation in that year compared to the circulation in 2013. Due to a change in the lower level circulation and wind field over East Asia the evaporation and moisture transport patterns became very different in those two years. In 2013, this study found high latent heat flux over Eastern China, which implies an increased surface evaporation over that region, and the moisture transported to the north by the mean monsoon circulation; whereas, there was no correlated transport of moisture to the North East Asia during 2014. The precipitable water over North East Asia has a stronger correlation with the latent heat flux over southern land region than that from Ocean region in the eastern side in both the years. A new approach is proposed to estimate the sub-grid scale hydrometeors from GRIMs, overestimated in the existing model.

In coastal and inland bays, where most of Korea's aquaculture is located, massive aquaculture damage occurs every year due to frequent anomalous high water temperatures. The interannual fluctuations of water temperature in July over the past four years (2018-2021) were the second largest since 1990 (after the period of 1994-1997) due to anomalous high temperatures, rainy seasons, and typhoons. Through analysis of heat flux and heat balance in areas of concern for high water temperatures (i.e., Cheonsu Bay, Gamak Bay, Guryongpo), the occurrence of high water temperatures in Cheonsu Bay and Gamak Bay in the summer seasons was confirmed to derive mainly from heat inflow through the sea surface from the air. Based on estimations of the average ocean heat transport rate in July for the four-year period of 2018-2021, Cheonsu Bay and Gamak Bay accounted for 13.5% and 62.3% outflow of the net heat flux, respectively. However, the ocean heat transport rate in Guryongpo Hajeong differed significantly from -174.5% to 132.5% of the net heat flux by year depending on the occurrence of cold water mass.

This study examined the effect of Sn co-doping on the transport and magnetic properties of Cr-doped $In_2O_3$ thin films grown on (100) silicon substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The experimental results showed that Sn co-doping enhances the magnetization and appearance of the anomalous Hall effect, and increases the carrier (electron) concentration. These results suggest that the conduction carrier plays an important role in enhancing the ferromagnetism of a laser-deposited Cr-doped $In_2O_3$ film, which may have applications in transparent oxide semiconductor spin electronics devices.
