Co-Cr alloy의 열처리에 따른 표면개질의 영향 (Effect of Surface Modification by Heat Treatment of Co-Cr Alloy)

  • The Co-Cr alloys have clinical histories in dental and orthopaedic implants, and recently in cardiovascular stent applications because the alloys exhibit a high elastic modulus and radiopacity. In order to improve mechanical property of the Co-Cr alloys, electropolishing is employed as the final process. Electropolishing, an anodic dissolution process in the transpassive state, is sensitively affected by process conditions such as current density, machining time, electrode gap. In this study, the effect of heat treatment conditions on surface roughness and inclusion analysis is investigated in Co-Cr alloy (L605). The most smooth surface of Co-Cr alloy is obtained when electropolishing is performed at 15-20 V for 15-30 sec with a electrode gap of 3.5 mm.

  • Transgranular stress corrosion cracking of nickel base alloys was reported by Copson and Dean in 1965. Study to establish this cracking mechanism needs to be carried out. Laboratory stress corrosion tests were performed for mill annealed(MA) or thermally treated(TT) steam generator tubing materials in a high temperature water containing lead. An electrochemical interaction of lead with the alloying elements of SG tubings was also investigated. Alloy 690 TT showed a transgranular stress corrosion cracking in a 40% NaOH solution with 5000 ppm of lead, while intergranular stress corrosion racking was observed in a 10% NaOH solution with 100 ppm lead. Lead seems to enhance the disruption of passive film and anodic dissolution of alloy 600 and alloy 690. Crack tip blunting at grain boundary carbides plays a role for the transgranular stress corrosion cracking.

In this study, the effect of the electropolishing conditions on surface roughness and corrosion resistance is investigated for Co-Cr alloys (L605). The most smooth surface is obtained when electropolishing is performed at 15-20 V for 15-30 sec with a electrode gap of 3.5 mm. It is found out that electropolishing reduces corrosion rate about one-tenth as much.

  • Electropolishing, the anodic dissolution process without contact with tools, is a surface treatment method to make a surface planarization using an electrochemical reaction with low current density. Nitinol is a metal alloy composed of Ni and Ti around 50% respectively which has shape memory effect. Nitinol can be put various applications which require purity and high pricision surface of products. The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristic of electropolishing effect for nitinol workpieces. In order to analyze the characteristics of electropolishing effect, surface roughness and micro-burr size were measured in terms of machining conditions such as current density, machining time and electrode gap. The tendencies about improvement of surface roughness and deburring effect by electropolishing for nitinol workpieces were determined.

Optical Interferometry as Electrochemical Emission Spectroscopy of Metallic alloys in Aqueous Solutions

  • Holographic interferometry, an electromagnetic method, was used to study corrosion of carbon steel, aluminum and copper nickel alloys in NaOH, KCI and $H_2SO_4$ solutions respectively. The technique, called electrochemical emission spectroscopy, consisted of in-situ monitoring of changes in the number of fringe evolutions during the corrosion process. It allowed a detailed picture of anodic dissolution rate changes of alloys. The results were compared to common corrosion measurement methods such as linear polarization resistance measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. A good agreement between both data was found, thus indicating that holographic interferometry can be a very powerful technique for in-situ corrosion monitoring.

정전위법에 의한 해상풍력 타워 구조물용 강재의 음극방식을 위한 최적방식전위 결정 (Determination of optimum protection potential for cathodic protection of offshore wind-turbine-tower steel substructure by using potentiostatic method)

  • 본 연구에서는 해상풍력 타워 지지구조물용 강재인 S355ML 강에 대하여 전기화학적 기법으로 전기방식 설계에 필요한 최적 방식전위를 규명하고자 하였다. 동전위분극 실험 결과, 양극분극 곡선 상에서는 부동태 구간은 존재하지 않으며, 음극분극 곡선 상에는 용존산소환원반응에 의한 농도분극 구간과 수소가스 발생에 의한 활성화분극 구간이 관찰되었다. 음극방식 시 방식전위에 해당하는 농도분극 구간은 약 - 0.72 V ~ - 1.0 V의 전위 구간인 것으로 확인되었다. 다양한 전위에서 정전위 실험을 실시한 결과 전류밀도 변화는 시간에 따라 안정화되는 경향을 나타냈다. 1200초 동안 정전위 실험 후 주사전자현미경과 3D 분석 현미경을 이용한 시험편 표면 분석 결과, 양극분극 전위에 해당하는 0 V ~ - 0.50 V의 전위구간에서는 양극용해반응에 의한 부식손상이 관찰되었다. 이에 반해 음극분극 전위 영역에서는 대체적으로 손상이 없는 양호한 표면을 유지하였으며 석회질 피막 형성을 확인할 수 있었다. 연구결과, 농도분극 영역에 해당하는 - 0.8 V ~ - 1.0 V의 전위영역이 S355ML 강의 외부전원법에 의한 음극방식 적용 시 최적 방식 전위 구간으로 사료된다.

양극산화에 의한 티타늄 산화피막의 전기화학적 거동과 형상 (Electrochemical Behavior and Morphology of Anodic Titanium Oxide Films)

  • 순 티타늄(공업용 순 티타늄, 2급)의 0.5M에서 0.7M 농도의 $H_3PO_4$ 용액에서 $0.3\~l.0 A/dm^2$의 정전류 밀도변화에 따른 anodizing 거동을 관찰하였다. 이때 형성된 산화피막을 SEM과 XRD로 관찰, 분석하였다. 실험결과 0.05M $H_3PO_4$ 용액의 조건에서 전압-시간 (V-T)곡선의 초기에는 직선적인 관계를 보였고, 전류밀도가 증가함에 따라 포물선의 형태를 나타내었다. 그리고 V-T곡선의 형태는 전해질의 농도의 증가에 따라 큰 변화가 없었지만, 최종적인 전압은 감소하였다. 티타늄의 산화피막은 전해질 농도와 전류밀도가 증가할수록 미세한 입자 형태에서 눈꽃과 같고 층을 이룬 입자들로 구성된 구조를 나타내었다. 산화막과 전해질의 계면에서의 방전에 의해 산화피막의 국소적인 침착과 용해를 동반하였다. 산화피막의 결정성은 anodizing 전압이 증가할수록 증가하였고 전해질의 농도가 증가할수록 감소하는 경향을 보였다.

  • 주요성분이 Sn(93.0 %)-Ag(3.26 %)-Cu(0.89 %)로 구성되는 SAC 폐무연솔더로부터 주석과 은을 회수하기 위한 전기화학적인 방법을 연구하였다. 폐무연솔더의 건식용해, 주조를 통해 제조한 작업전극을 사용하여 분극거동 조사와 정전류 전해용해를 실시하였다. 분극시험 시 활성화영역의 산화전류피크는 전해액의 황산 농도가 높아질수록 감소하였으며, 1 molL-1 황산농도가 전해용해를 위해 가장 적절한 것으로 나타났다. 정전류 용해 시 전극표면의 부동태층인 양극슬라임이 두꺼워짐에 따라 전극전위가 지속적으로 높아졌으며, 10 mAcm-2에서 25시간동안 지속적인 전해용해가 가능한 반면 50 mAcm-2에서는 2.5 시간 이후부터 전극전위가 급상승하여 전해용해반응이 중단되었다. 정전류 전해용해 시 은은 양극슬라임에 농축되었으며, 전해액내 염소이온의 농도가 0.3 molL-1인 경우 농축율이 미첨가 조건보다 12.7% 높은 94.3%를 나타내었다. 또한 염소이온의 첨가에 의해 전해액내 주석이온의 안정성을 높이고 주석의 전착전류효율을 향상시킬 수 있었다.

Role of Ca in Modifying Corrosion Resistance and Bioactivity of Plasma Anodized AM60 Magnesium Alloys

  • The effect of alloying element Ca (0, 1, and 2 wt%) on corrosion resistance and bioactivity of the as-received and anodized surface of rolled plate AM60 alloys was investigated. A plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) was carried out to form anodic oxide film in $0.5mol\;dm^{-3}\;Na_3PO_4$ solution. The corrosion behavior was studied by polarization measurements while the in vitro bioactivity was tested by soaking the specimens in Simulated Body Fluid (1.5xSBF). Optical micrograph and elemental analysis of the substrate surfaces indicated that the number of intermetallic particles increased with Ca content in the alloys owing to the formation of a new phase $Al_2Ca$. The corrosion resistance of AM60 specimens improved only slightly by alloying with 2 wt% Ca which was attributed to the reticular distribution of $Al_2Ca$ phase existed in the alloy that might became barrier for corrosion propagation across grain boundaries. Corrosion resistance of the three alloys was significantly improved by coating the substrates with anodic oxide film formed by PEO. The film mainly composed of magnesium phosphate with thickness in the range $30-40{\mu}m$. The heat resistant phase of $Al_2Ca$ was believed to retard the plasma discharge during anodization and, hence, decreased the film thickness of Ca-containing alloys. The highest apatite forming ability in 1.5xSBF was observed for AM60-1Ca specimens (both substrate and anodized) that exhibited more degradation than the other two alloys as indicated by surface observation. The increase of surface roughness and the degree of supersaturation of 1.5xSBF due to dissolution of Mg ions from the substrate surface or the release of film compounds from the anodized surface are important factors to enhance deposition of Ca-P compound on the specimen surfaces.

Enhancing Effects of NaHSO3 on Corrosion of T91 Steel

  • In the paper, corrosion behavior of T91 steel in different concentrations of NaHSO3 solution was studied in combination with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and electrochemical measurements. The results showed that the steel exhibited active anodic dissolution characteristics in the solution, and NaHSO3 concentration affected both cathodic and anodic behaviors. The steel surface was covered by intact corrosion products in the solutions, but the compactness and mechanical properties of the corrosion products degraded with the increase of NaHSO3 concentration. In low-concentration NaHSO3 solution the steel tended to undergo uniform corrosion with slight corrosion pits, but its corrosion mode gradually transited to localized corrosion as the NaHSO3 concentration increased. The mechanical property degradation of the corrosion products caused by sulfur compounds and the pH decrease of the solution are the important factors to accelerating its corrosion process.
