The author performed this study to investige the relationship between condylar movements recorded with Pantronic and mandibular movements at incisal area recorded with BioEGN. For this study 24 patients with Temporomandibular disorders(TMDs) and 30 dental students without any masticatory symptoms were selected as patients group and control group, respectively. The items recorded with Pantronic(Denar Corp., USA) were immediate side-shift, orbiting path, protrusive path, and PRI. BioEGN(Bioelectric-gnathography, Bioresearch Inc., USA) were sued to measure the amount of mandibular torque movement in frontal and horizontal plane and also the distance of mandibular translation at incisal area. Amount of mandibular rotational torque movement was analyzed by angle and difference between both condyles in frontal and horizontal plane. The collected data were processed with SAS program and conclusion were as follows : 1. Mean value of items recorded with Pantronic were not significantly differed between patients group and control group except the item of pantographic reproducibility index(PRI). The value of PRI was 39.5 in patients group, and 29.5 in control group. 2. The amount of mandibular torque movement was not differed tin early protrusive and early left excursion between patients group and control group, but in early right excursion, patients group showed more value than control group did. 3. The distance on sagittal plane in early eccentric movements were longer in patients group than those in control group, but the distance of maximal eccentric movements were not significantly differed between patients group and control group. 4. Items which showed significant correlation with PRI were progressive side-shift, and horizontal torque movement in early protrusion and right excursion. 5. The angle of protrusive path of affected side was greater than of non-affected side in unilaterally affected patients, but the protrusive angle of preferred chewing side was not differed from that of contralateral side in control group. 6. The amount of torque movement in early protrusion and right excursion were greater in patients with coincidence of affected side and preferred chewing side than in patients without coincidence.

Objectives: This study evaluates soft tissue changes of the upper lip and nose after maxillary setback with orthognathic surgery such as Le Fort I or anterior segmental osteotomy. Materials and Methods: All 50 patients with bimaxillary protrusion and skeletal Class II malocclusion underwent Le Fort I or anterior segmental osteotomy with backward movement. Soft and hard tissue changes were analyzed using cephalograms collected preoperatively and 6 months postoperatively. Results: Cluster analysis on the ratios shows that 2 lines intersected at 4 mm point. Based on this point, we divided the subjects into 2 groups: Group A (less than 4 mm, 27 subjects) and Group B (more than 4 mm, 23 subjects). Also, each group was divided according to changes of upper incisor angle (≥4°=A1, B1 or <4°=A2, B2). The correlation between A and B groups for A'/ANS and Ls/Is (P<0.001) was significant; A'/A (P=0.002), PRN/A (P=0.043), PRN/ANS (P=0.032), and St/Is (P=0.010). Variation of nasolabial angle between the two groups was not significant. There was no significant correlation of vertical movement and angle variation. Conclusion: The ratio of soft tissue to hard tissue movement depends on the amount of posterior movement in the maxilla, showing approximately two times higher rates in most of the midface when posterior movement was greater than 4 mm. The soft tissue changes caused by posterior movement of the maxilla were little affected by angular changes of upper incisors. Interestingly, nasolabial angle showed a different tendency between A and B groups and was more affected by incisal angular changes when horizontal posterior movement was less than 4 mm.
Mandibular movements are guided mainly by three determinants, namely the two posterior controls (the Temporomandibular joints) and the anterior control (the incisal guidance). The aim of this study was to evaluate the incisal guide angle in effort to reconcile a patient's condylar guide angle and incisu guide angle, to develop criteria for incisal guidance in clinical practice. 48 subjects (male 33, female 15) with intact intercuspation, without past history and symptoms of stomatognathic system, were selected for this study. All of the subjects had not anterior prostheses. The sagittal condylar guide angles and incisal guide angles were measured and estimated statistically by cephalogram and articulator (Whip-Mix 8500A). The results of this study were as follows: 1. Average of condylar guide angle was 43.33 degree by cephalogram, and was 35.18 degree by articulator. 95% confidence interval was from 40.43 to 46.23 degrees in cephalogram and was from 32.98 to 37.38 degrees in articulator. 2. Average of incisal guide angle was 51.51 degree by cephalogram, and was 44.11 degree by articulator. 95% confidence interval was from 49.12 to 54.95 degrees in cephalogram and was from 40.67 to 47.56 douses in articulator. 3. Difference between condylar and incisal guide angle was 8.18 degree by cephalogram, and was 8.94 degree by articulator. 95% confidence interval was from 4.61 to 11.74 degrees in cephalogram and was from 4.90 to 12.98 degrees in articulator. 4. In case of the incisal guide angle steeper than condylar guide angle, subjects were 69% (33 of 48) in cephatogram and 75% (36 of 48) in articulator. 5. By the multiple regression equation, condylar guide angle was more influenced by the anterior teeth. 6. When the mandible protrudes from the intercuspal position to the edge to edge position the incisal linear movement was 4.18mm (S.D.:1.30mm) and the condylar linear movement was 4.38mm (S.D.:1.26mm).
This study was undertaken to compare the craniofacial morphology of Class II, Division 1 malocclusion with that of normal occlusion in children, and to investigate the incidence of various Class II, Division 1 craniofacial skeletal patterns. The subjects consist of thirty seven boys and fifty three girls with Class II, Division 1 malocclusion, and forty six boys and eighty one girls 10-15 years with normal occlusion. Measurements were recorded, tabulated and analyzed on the lateral cephalograms by the degree of SNA, SNB and ANB. The following characteristics of the Class II, Division 1 skeletal pattern were observed. 1. The anteroposterior relationship of the maxilla to the cranium in the Class II, Division 1 was very similar to that of normal occlusion. 2, Mandible of the Class II, Division 1 malocclusion was in the posterior position in relation to the cranial anatomy when compared to normal. 3. The chin point as measured by SN Pog and NS Gn showed distal positioning in relation to normal occlusion. 4. SN to mandibular plane angle was large in Class II, Division 1 malocclusion. 5. Mandibular incisor inclination was not significantly different between Class II, Division 1 malocclusion and normal occlusion, but maxillary incisors inclined and positioned labially and consequently overjet was large in Class II, Division 1 malocclusion. 6. Class II, Division 1 malocclusion was divided into four types of craniofacial skeletal pattern. The most common Class II, Division 1 pattern was found to be type C in which SN-Mand. Pl. was above mean range of normal occlusion. The next frequent pattern was found to be type A in which maxilla and mandible were within normal range of protrusion while upper incisors were severly labially inclined.
The purpose of this study is to analyze and classify breast shape of women aged 11~15 using 3D body scan data. In this study, 250 women's body scans were selected from the 6th Size Korea dataset, and 30 items from each of the scan were measured using RapidForm XOR 3 program. The principal component analysis and cluster analysis were conducted using statistical program SPSS 17.0. The five principal components were identified; breast drooping and breast capacity, size from chest to under bust area, breast protrusion, breast height, and under breast angle & outer distance of breast. As the results of cluster analysis, woman's breast types were classified into four types. The breast type 1 was protrusion type (25.1%) which is considered as the breast maturity stage. The breast type 2 had the most drooped breast covering a large area (20.2%). The breast type 3 had the least prominent breast with a highest nipple point, which was considered as the early breast development stage (38.9%). The breast type 4 had the obesity of the chest and breast circumferences with the slightly prominent and the least drooped breast (15.8%). This study can provide fundamental information to develop sizing system and brassiere pattern for junior girls.
Anterior segmental osteotomy were performed in 8 patients with Angle's II malocclusion or anterior maxillary protrusion. Cupar's method was used for operation. The period of follow up for patients were 15 months by average. This study discussed the postoperative complications and soft tissue change after anterior segmental maxillary osteotomy. There are not specific major complications.
Traction has been used since ancient times in the treatment of painfull spinal conditions, but the literature on traction and its clinical effectiveness Is limited. Traction can be defined as a drawing or pulling tension applied to a body segment. Cervical traction is a technique that applies a longitudinal force of the cervical spine and associated structures. Goals of traction include reduction of radicular signs and symptoms associated with conditions such as disk protrusion, degenerative disk disease, lateral stenosis, muscle spasm, and subluxations. The various mechanical factors most relevant to cervical traction are organized and discussed. The factors presented are 1) angle of pull, 2) Traction force, 3) duration of traction, 4) neck position and clinical application, and 5) frequency of treatment. It should allow physical therapists to adjust traction protocol to match the patient's symptoms and diagnosis. The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive overview of the cervical traction and treatment guidelines.
To diversify the area of application of UBET to the analysis of ring rolling which produces rings having more complex cross-sectional configuration, an element of triangular cross-section has been introduced and the corresponding kinematically admissible velocity field has been derived while considering the material flow between neighboring elements. The theoretical perdictions in roll torque and profile formation show good agreement with the experiments. The effect of process parameters such as feed rate and taper angle of the roll groove has been discussed.
Many orthodontists face difficulties in aligning incisors in an esthetically critical position, because the individual perception of beauty fluctuates with time and trend. Temporary anchorage device (TAD) can aid in attaining this critical incisor position, which determines an attractive smile, the amount of incisor display, and lip contour. Borderline cases can be treated without extraction and the capricious minds of patients can be satisfied with regard to the incisor position through whole dentition distalization using TAD. Mild to moderate bimaxillary protrusion cases can be treated with TAD-driven en masse retraction without premolar extraction. Patients with Angle's Class III malocclusion can be the biggest beneficiaries because both sufficient maxillary incisal display, through intrusion of mandibular incisors, and distalization of the mandibular dentition are successfully achieved. In addition, TAD can be used to correct various other malocclusions, such as canting of the occlusal plane and dental/alveolus asymmetry.
The conventional biased vertical alignment (BVA) mode has several advantages such as rubbing- and protrusion-free, wide-viewing angle and stable LC dynamics against external pressure. However manufacturing process of BVA mode is difficult task because the pixel and bias electrode signal are different in each frame. To solve this problem, we investigated the pattern free vertical alignment (PFVA) by using the UV-curable reactive mesogen (RM), in which the LC molecules were made to be pre-tilted. Eventually transmittance and response time in PFVA mode were found to be improved as compared to BVA mode.
