  • Rodents demonstrate an outstanding capability for tactile perceptions using their whiskers. The mechanoreceptors in the whisker follicles are responsive to the deflections or vibrations of the whisker beams. It is believed that the sensor processing can determine the location of an object in touch, that is, the angular position and direction of the object. We designed artificial whiskers modelling the real whiskers and tested tactile localization. The robotic system needs to adjust its position against an object to help the shape recognition. We show a robotic adjustment of position based on tactile localization. The behaviour uses deflection curves of the whisker sensors for every sweep of whiskers and estimates the location of a target object.

  • The effect of spatial attention gradually decreases as a function of the distance between the locus of attention and a target. According to this hypothesis, we tested the spatial-effect profile of visual attention when it operates on perception and memory. Experiment 1 measured accuracy of discriminating the color of a simultaneously masked target after presenting a pre-cue to either at the target location or away from the target (perception-intensive task). Experiment 2 measured accuracy of recognizing the color of several items at and around the pre-cued location (memory-intensive task). In the perception-intensive condition, the accuracy gradually dropped as the distance between the cue and target location increases. However, in the memory-intensive condition, subjects remembered only the item at the cued location. This suggests spatial attention in a memory-intensive process would operate on object-based representations. Experiment 2 showed the object-based effect observed in Experiment 1 can be also present in perception under a special circumstance. The results indicate that spatial attention can operate on object-based representations in a memory-intensive process whereas it flexibly can operate either on location-based or object-based representations in a perception-intensive process.

  • The existing pattern mining methods[1,2,3,4,5,6,11,12,13] do not use location generalization method on the set of location history data of moving object, but even so they simply do extract only frequent patterns which have no spatio-temporal constraint in moving patterns on specific space. Therefore, it is difficult for those methods to apply to frequent pattern mining which has spatio-temporal constraint such as optimal moving or scheduling paths among the specific points. And also, those methods are required more large memory space due to using pattern tree on memory for reducing repeated scan database. Therefore, more effective pattern mining technique is required for solving these problems. In this paper, in order to develop more effective pattern mining technique, we propose new location generalization method that converts data of detailed level into meaningful spatial information for reducing the processing time for pattern mining of a massive history data set of moving object and space saving. The proposed method can lead the efficient spatial moving pattern mining of moving object using by creating moving sequences through generalizing the location attributes of moving object into 2D spatial area based on $R^*$-Tree and Area Grid Hash Table(AGHT) in preprocessing stage of pattern mining.

  • In this paper, a technique to estimate the circular object's center and radius under noisy condition is described. The technique is based on Davies'Hough transform approach to circular object location but more robust to noise and faster to estimate the circle by using an area of cumulated points.

  • Recently, with the rapid development of mobile computing, wireless positioning technologies, and the generalization of wireless internet, LBS (Location Based Service) which utilizes location information of moving objects is serving in many fields. In order to serve LBS efficiently, the location data server that periodically stores location data of moving objects is required. Formerly, GIS servers have been used to store location data of moving objects. However, GIS servers are not suitable to store location data of moving objects because it was designed to store static data. Therefore, in this paper, we designed and implemented an extended SLDS(Short-term Location Data Subsystem) for real-time Location Based Services. The extended SLDS is extended from the SLDS which is a subsystem of the GALIS(Gracefully Aging Location Information System) architecture that was proposed as a cluster-based distributed computing system architecture for managing location data of moving objects. The extended SLDS guarantees real-time service capabilities using the TMO(Time-triggered Message-triggered Object) programming scheme and efficiently manages large volume of location data through distributing moving object data over multiple nodes. The extended SLDS also has a little search and update overhead because of managing location data in main memory. In addition, we proved that the extended SLDS stores location data and performs load distribution more efficiently than the original SLDS through the performance evaluation.

  • This paper presents an adaptive active tracking system with sector based scanning for a single PTZ camera. Dividing sectors on an image reduces the search space to shorten selection time so that the system can cover many targets. Upon the selection of a target, the system estimates the target trajectory to predict the zooming location with a finite amount of time for camera movement. Advanced estimation techniques using probabilistic reason suffer from the unknown object dynamics and the inaccurate estimation compromises the zooming level to prevent tracking failure. The proposed system uses the simple piecewise estimation with a few frames to cope with fast moving objects and/or slow camera movements. The target is tracked in multiple steps and the zooming time for each step is determined by maximizing the zooming level within the expected variation of object velocity and detection. The number of zooming steps is adaptively determined according to target speed. In addition, the iterative estimation of a zooming location with camera movement time compensates for the target prediction error due to the difference between speeds of a target and a camera. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by simulations and real time experiments.

  • The LBS(Location-Based Service), which is based on individual's mobility, is required increasingly as mobile telecommunication and various infrastructures have developed rapidly. The technologies for LBS are location determination technology, service platform technology, contents provider technology and moving object database technology generally. Among these, service platform must be interoperable with location gate-way server and provide common function of billing, authentification, protect location information, privacy control, location trigger and intelligent acquisition and so on. The TTA(Telecommunications Technology Association) published specification that defines a standard protocol for safe and simple interface between LBS client and LBS platform and the OpenLS(Open Location Service) in OGC (Open GIS Consortium) released implementation specifications for providing Location based core services. In this paper, we implemented service platform for LBS which is able to interoperable with location gateway server and contents provider and is caracterized as follows. First, it could require and response location information from different types of location gateway server with same interface. Second, it complies with the standard interfaces with OpenLS 4 contents providers for core LBS. Third, it could provide location of wired phone as well as wireless mobile terminal compling with the standard protocol. Last, it could provide trajectorH information based past location as well as current location, because it is able to interoperable with moving object DBMS. This paper contributes to the construction and practical use of LBS by providing the method of implementation of service platform for LBS.

  • Traffic safety issues have recently been seriously magnified, due to child deaths in apartment complexes and parking lots. Accordingly, traffic safety technologies are being developed to recognize dangerous situations on living roads and to provide warning services. In this study, a collision detection algorithm was developed to prevent collision accidents between moving objects, by using object type and location information provided from CCTV monitoring devices. To determine the exact collision between moving objects, an object movement model was developed to predict the range of movement by considering the moving characteristics of the object, and a collision detection algorithm was developed to efficiently analyze the presence and location of the collision. The developed object movement model as well as the collision detection algorithm were simulated, in a virtual space of an actual living road to verify performance and derive supplementary matters.

  • In this paper, an extraction method of objects of interest in the color images is proposed. It is possible to extract objects of interest from a complex background without any prior-knowledge based on the proposed method. For object extraction, Gator images that contain information of object location, are created by using Gator filter. Based on the images the initial location of attention windows is determined, from which image features are selected to extract objects. To extract object, I modify the previous method partially and apply the modified method. To evaluate the performance of propsed method, precision, recall and F-measure are calculated between the extraction results from propsed method and manually extracted results. I verify the performance of the proposed methods based on these accuracies. Also through comparison of the results with the existing method, I verily the superiority of the proposed method over the existing method.

  • One of the highly reliable object tracking methods is to trace objects by associating objects detected by deep learning. The detected object is represented by a rectangular box. The box has information such as location and size. Since the tracker has motion information of the object in addition to the location and size, knowing additional information about the motion of the detected box can increase the reliability of object tracking. In this paper, we present a new method of reliably estimating the moving direction of the detected object in underground parking lot. First, the frame difference image is binarized for detecting motion energy, change due to the object motion. Then, a cumulative binary image is generated that shows how the motion energy changes over time. Next, the moving direction of the detected box is estimated from the accumulated image. We use a new cost function to accurately estimate the direction of movement of the detected box. The proposed method proves its performance through comparative experiments of the existing methods.
