A novel, simple and totally recyclable method has been developed for the synthesis of nontoxic, biocompatible and biodegradable bio-composite films from soy protein and silk protein. Bio films are defined as flexible films prepared from biological materials such as protein. These materials have potential application in medical and food as a packaging material. Their use depends on various parameters such as mechanical (strength and modulus), thermal, among others. In this study, prepare and characterization of bio films made from Soy Protein Isolate (SPI) (matrix) and Silk Fiber (SF) (reinforcement) through solution casting method by the addition of plasticizer and crosslinking agent. The obtained SPI and SPI/SF composites were subsequently subjected to evaluate their mechanical and thermal properties by using Universal Testing Machine and Thermal Gravimetric Analyzer respectively. The tensile testing showed significant improvements in strength with increasing amount of SF content and the % elongation at break of the composites of the SPI/SF was lower than that of the matrix. Though the interfacial bonding was moderate, the improvement in tensile strength and modulus was attributed to the higher tensile properties of the silk fiber.
Safety diagnosis of various structural components and facilities is indispensable for preventing catastrophic failure of material by time-dependent and environment accelerating degradation. Also, this diagnosis of operating components should be done periodically for safe maintenance and economical repair. However, conventional standard methods for mechanical properties have the problems of bulky specimen, destructive procedure and complex procedure of specimen sampling. So, a non-destructive and simple mechanical testing method using small specimen is needed. Therefore, an advanced indentation technique was developed as a potential method for non-destructive testing of in-field structures. This technique measures indentation load-depth curve during indentation and analyzes the mechanical properties related to deformation such as yield strength, tensile strength and work-hardening index. In this paper, we characterized the tensile properties including yield and tensile strengths of the V-modified Cr-Mo steels in petro-chemical and thermo-electrical plants. And also, the effects of hydrogen-assisted degradation of the V-modified Cr-Mo steels were analyzed in terms of work-hardening index and yield ratio.
Recently, research on applying composite materials to various industrial fields is being actively conducted. In particular, composite materials fabricated by Fused Deposition Modeling 3D printers have more advantages than existing materials as they have fewer restrictions on manufacturing shape, reduce the time required, weight. With these advantages, it is possible to consider utilizing composite materials in cryogenic environments such as the application of liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen, which are mainly used in an aerospace and mobility. However, FDM composite materials are not verified in cryogenic environments less than 150K. This study evaluates the characteristics of composite materials such as tensile strength and strain using a UTM (Universal Testing Machine). The specimen is immersed in liquid nitrogen (77 K) to cool down during the test. The specimen is fabricated using 3D print, and can be manufactured by stacking reinforced fibers such as carbon fiber, fiber glass, and aramid fiber (Kevlar) with base material (Onyx). For the experimental method and specimen shape, international standards ASTM D638 and ASTM D3039 for tensile testing of composite materials were referenced.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the tensile bond strength of composite resin inlays according to the their internal surface treatment and types of luting cement and compared them with the conventional direct resin filling thchnique. Class II cavities were prepared in 50 extracted human molar teeth, and then equally divided into five groups. Group 1 : Cavities of control group were directly filled with P-50. Group 2 : Cavities of resin inlay group were luted with resin cement. Group 3 : Cavities of resin inlay group were luted with luting G-I cement. Group 4 : Cavities of resin inlay group were luted with resin cement after sandblasting. Group 5 : Cavities of resin inlay group were luted with luting G-I cement after sandblasting. All specimens were polished with same method and stored in normal saline for 24 hours before testing. An Universal Testing machine(Model No. AGS-100A, Shimadzu, Japan) was used to apply tensile loads in the vertical direction, and the force required for separation was recorded with a cross-head speed of 5mm/min and 100kg in full scale. The results were as follows : 1. The mean tensile bond strength was lowest in group luted with luting G-I cement, with measurements of $14.45{\pm}0.78(kg/cm^2)$ and highest in group luted with resin cement after sandblasting, with measurements of $49.6{\pm}2.74(kg/cm^2)$. 2. The tensile bond strength was greater in resin inlay groups luted with resin cement than in control group and resin inlay groups luted with luting G-I cement(P<0.05). 3. The tensile bond strength was lower in resin inlay groups luted with luting G-I cement than in control group(P<0.05). 4. The tensile bond strength was greater in resin inlay groups luted with resin cement or luting G-I cement after sandblasting than without that(P<0.05).
Irradiation-assisted stress corrosion cracking (IASCC) is one of the main degradation mechanisms of austenitic stainless steels, which are used as reactor internal materials. Slow strain rate testing (SSRT) has been widely applied to evaluate the IASCC initiation characteristics of proton-irradiated tensile specimens. Tensile specimens require low surface roughness for micro-crack observation, and electropolishing is the most important specimen pre-treatment process used for this. In this study, optimal electropolishing conditions were examined through analyzing results of polarization experiments and surface roughness measurements after electropolishing. Corrosion cell and electropolishing equipment were fabricated for polarization tests and electropolishing experiments using SSRT specimens. The experimental parameters were electropolishing time, current density, electrolyte temperature, and stirring speed. The optimal electropolishing conditions for SSRT tensile specimens made of type 316 stainless steel were evaluated as a polishing time of 180 seconds, a current density of 0.15 A/cm2, an electrolyte temperature of 60 ℃, and a stirring speed of 200 RPM.

Different methods of axial and tangential testing and various sample geometries were investigated, and new test geometries were designed to determine the ultimate tensile strength of zirconium cladding tubes. The finite element method was used to model the tensile tests, and the results of the simulations were evaluated. Axial and tangential tensile tests were performed on as-received and machined fuel cladding tube samples of both E110 and E110G Russian zirconium alloys at room temperature to compare their ultimate tensile strengths and the different sample preparation methods.

We have studied on welding dissimilar materials of Carbon steel SCP1-S by using laser beam. In this research we have performed some experiments to know the possibility of welding dissimilar materials using laser beam and magnetic fields by adjusting the power output of 35W laser. Other conditions of the experiments were as follows : the welding speed was varied in the range 10 m/min nitrogen gas was used as shield gas, the flow value of shield gas was ranged 10 L/min. In order to ascertain of the welded surface, we have done the tensile strength testing, the hardness testing and the microscope observation. As a result, we have found that tensile strength was the highest at the condition of the welding speed of 10mm/s, the flow value of 10 L/min, the gap of two materials 0, and the use of nitrogen gas. Above testings have also showed that the tensile strength was generally satisfactory since the penetration of welding was almost complete due to the thinness of the materials. In addition, the formation of the welded area was excellent when it had the highest tensile strength.

Formability of sheet metals can be evaluated using tensile testing. Easily measured tensile properties such as yield strength, tensile strength, elongation, strain hardening exponent, strain rate sensitivity and plastic strain ratio are important parameters to evaluated the sheet formability. This paper briefly explains how these properties are related to deep drawability and stretchability. The plastic anisotropy of sheet metals is usually attributed to the crystallographic texture. However dislocation distribution may influence the anisotropy.
The effect of extrusion temperature on the microstructure and mechanical properties was studied in gas atomized TEX>$Al_{81}Si_{19}$ alloy powders and their extruded bars using SEM, tensile testing and wear testing. The Si particle size of He-gas atomized powder was about 200-800 nm. Each microstructure of the extruded bars with extrusion temperature (400, 450 and 50$0^{\circ}C$) showed a homogeneous distribution of primary Si and eutectic Si particles embedded in the Al matrix and the particle size varied from 0.1 to 5.5 ${\mu}m$. With increasing extrusion temperature from 40$0^{\circ}C$ to 50$0^{\circ}C$, the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) decreased from 282 to 236 ㎫ at 300 K and the specific wear increased at all sliding speeds due to the coarse microstructure. The fracture behavior of failure in tension testing and wear testing was also studied. The UTS of extrudate at 40$0^{\circ}C$ higher than that of 50$0^{\circ}C$ because more fine Si particles in Al matrix of extrudate at 40$0^{\circ}C$ prevented crack to propagate.
The dynamic fracture toughness, fracture characteristics, impact tension and tensile properties of Al-Mg-Si T5 alloy and Al-Zn-Mg T6 alloy respectively welded with filler metal of Alcan 4043 were investigated. The dynamic fracture toughness values were obtained rapidly and simply for the specimen of small size by using instrumented Chirpy impact testing machine. the testing temperatures of the specimen were a range of room temperature and-196.deg. C. The results obtained in this experiment are summarized as follows. With decreasing the testing temperatures, dynamic tensile stress and fracture load were increased, on the other hand the deflection and impact value showed decreasing tendency in order of base metal>HAZ>weld. Changes of total absorbed energy were more influenced by the crack propagation energy than the crack initiation energy. At the low temperatures, the unstable rapid fracture representing the crack propagation appeared for the specimens of Charpy press side notched in Al-Zn-Mg alloy, but it was difficult to obtain the unstable rapid fracture in Al-Mg-Si alloy. Because of the development of plastic zone at the notch root, it was difficult to obtain thevalid $K_{1d}$ value in Al-Mg-Si alloy. Therefore the fatigue cracked specimens were effective in both Al-Mg-Si and Al-Zn-Mg alloys. With decreasing the impact testing temperatures, specimens underwent a transition from dimple-type transgranular fracture to lamella surface-type intergranular fracture because of the precipitate at the grain boundaries, impurities and crystal structure of the precipitates.s.
