  • It is growing the application of the removal ground anchor with tension force for earth retaining constructions in the downtown. Nowadays, we can find the compression dispersion anchor on many site. But, it is occur some probelems in behabior of anchors because of impossible to tense p.c strand uniformly with existing equipment due to different length of p.c strand. So we tried to tense each p.c strand uniformly with auto back equipment in-situ test. This study compared and analyzed apply to elastic theory in-situ test results of an existing equipment with those of auto back equipment. As a result of the test, It has been proved that differences of tension force in the existing equipment increases with increasing the number of p.c strand. This can cause an ultimate failure of the concentrated p.c strand and a shear failure of ground. So it has been proved that auto back equipment is necessary.

  • Ground anchor has been widely used specially for maintaining stability on reinforced cut slope in expressway. While the durability of the ground anchors should be ensured over the service life. However, the long-term loss of tensile force has occurred in most of field-installed anchors. Main causes are not clearly identified and very few studies have been made for analyzing long-term behavior of ground anchor in slopes. In this study, full-scale model tests and long-term measurements were made to obtain the load-displacement data and identified the causes of the long-term behaviors of ground anchor. As a result, the bond strength decreases exponentially with increasing water-binder ratio. Especially, groundwater is the most influencing factor to the bond strength. In the long-term behavior, the load decreases sharply until the initial settlement stabilized, and thereafter the tension force decreases constantly.

  • In this study, the research on MC anchor has been developed as composite type has done. MC anchor exerts bearing pressure on pre-bored hole where the end fixing device is expanded. Therefore, the uplift capacity is to be increased and it has the characteristics that the anchor body is not eliminated from the ground even if the grouting is not carried out properly. Furthermore, it reduces the loss of tension and raises the construction availability by inserting the reinforced bar as well as the anchor cable, while it can improve the long-term stability because the nail is expected to play the role when the loss of the anchor cable is occurred in a long-term. However, because the resistance mechanism of the compound anchor such as MC anchor is different from friction anchor, the estimation method of the uplift capacity by the frictional force of the ground and the grout is not proper. Particularly, in domestic cases, the problem to overestimate or underestimate the uplift capacity is expected because the design method considering the soil characteristics about the compound anchor has not been developed. Therefore, in this study, in order to evaluate the characteristics of MC anchor and a kind of compound anchor, we measured the uplift, the tension and the creep by nine anchors tests in shale ground that the fluctuation of the strength is great. In addition, we analyzed the test result comparing to the result of the general friction anchor and evaluated the characteristics of MC anchor movement to gather the results. As a result of the test, we found the effect that the uplift capacity is increased in shale ground comparing to the general friction anchor.

  • The structures built under the groundwater level are affected by the buoyancy force, which is hydrostatic pressure in the up direction. Recently, buoyancy-resistant anchor method has been applied in many cases of the construction of the important structure of large size, which is built under the groundwater level so that it takes high uplift pressure. Even if the construction cost of the method is very high, it surely increases the safety rate. However, the diagnosis of the performance of the buoyancy-resistant permanent anchor and the investigation of resistance mechanism are still insufficient. Especially, the long-term behavior of the anchor has not been studied well due to the difficulty in observation procedure. The contribution of this paper is the establishment of reasonable design methodology. We have measured anchor axial forces for 10 years after the construction, by using an automated measurement and a manual measurement by establishing a load cell in anchor head. Through the data collected from the measurements, we analyze the construction-step behavior of the anchor according to the self-weight variation of the building and the long-term behavior (i.e. movement within 10 years after the construction) of the anchor according to the passage of time.

  • This paper presents the details of a novel external prestressing technique for strengthening of concrete members. In the proposed technique, transfer of external force is in shear mode on the end block thus creating a complex stress distribution and the required transverse prestressing force is lesser compared to conventional techniques. Steel brackets are provided on either side of the end block for transferring external prestressing force and these are connected to the anchor blocks by expansion type anchor bolts. In order to validate the technique, an experimental investigation has been carried out on post-tensioned end blocks. Performance of the end blocks have been studied for design, cracking and ultimate loads. Slip and slope of steel bracket have been recorded at various stages during the experiment. Finite element analysis has been carried out by simulating the test conditions and the responses have been compared. From the analysis, it has been observed that the computed slope and slip of the steel bracket are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental observations. A simplified analytical model has been proposed to compute load-deformation of the loaded steel bracket with respect to the end block. Yield and ultimate loads have been arrived at based on force/moment equilibrium equations at critical sections. Deformation analysis has been carried out based on the assumption that the ratio of axial deformation to vertical deformation of anchor bolt would follow the same ratio at the corresponding forces such as yield and ultimate. It is observed that the computed forces, slip and slopes are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental observations.

  • Ocean monitoring facilities are divided into two types, fixed type and floating type. This paper deals with wane load calculation and mooring system for a floating monitoring facility. Wave load and drift forces are calculated for an example case of floating monitoring buoy To enlarge holding power of anchor, circular pile model test was performed. A program for horizontal force of circular pile in sand was made and the calculated result showed fairy good agreement with the result of model test. It is expected that this method will provide good estimation for the holding power of the prototype of circular pile anchor which is relied upon SCUBA activity for installation.

  • When an anchor is dropped into the sea, there exists a danger of collision on the pipeline and subsea cables in the seabed. This collision could cause huge environmental disasters and serious economic losses. In order to secure the safety of subsea structures such as pipelines and subsea cables from the external impact, it is necessary to estimate the exact external force through the anchor's terminal velocity on the water. FLUENT, a computational fluid dynamic program, was used to acquire the terminal velocity and drag coefficient computation. A half-symmetry condition was used in order to reduce the computational time and a moving deforming mesh technique also adapted to present hydrostatic pressure. The results were examined with the equation based on Newton's Second Law to check the error rate. In this study, three example cases were calculated by stockless anchors of 5.25 ton, 10.5 ton, and 15.4 ton, and for the onshore experiment dropped height was back calculated with the anchor's terminal velocity in the water.

  • To investigate the stabilizing effect of anchors against sliding, a series of the model test was carried out. An apparatus was developed to perform the model test of the slope reinforced by anchors. An instrumentation system has been applied on the anchors to measure the axial force during slope failure. The maximum stabilizing effect is revealed about 0.5% of the area ratio. The initial loss of anchor force is represented about 24% of initial jacking force. This result is equaled to the proposed range(10%~25%) of the field test result(Yun, 1997). The effective jacking force corresponds to 70% of the initial jacking force. Therefore, the initial jacking force should be determined more than 30% of the design jacking force. As the initial jacking force becomes increase, the reinforced slope is transferred to brittle failure behavior due to increasing the density of slope soils.

  • In this paper, the stability analyses were performed for masonry retaining wallls in Seoul subway System. This masonry retaining wallls were reinforced with earth anchor system for the construction, but it was removed after construction. Therefore, the stability of masonry retaining wallls should be checked after the earth anchors removed. For stability analysis of masonry retaining wallls. FDM analysis(FLAC Ver.3.3) and slope stability analysis (SLOPE/W) were performed applying the test results from laboratory and field tests(Schmidt hammer test, cack examination). As conclusion, the tension force of earth anchors should be kept, therefore, substitutional method was required in order to keep the tension force of earth anchor system.
