  • Although many children with cerebral palsy have problems with their eye movements available data on its intervention is minimal. The purpose of the study was to determine the effectiveness of the postural movement normalization and eye movement program on the oculomotor ability of children with cerebral palsy. Twenty-four children with cerebral palsy (12 male and 12 female), aged between 10 and 12, were invited to partake in this study. The subjects were randomly allocated to two groups: an experimental group received the postural movement normalization and eye movement program and a control group which received conventional therapy without the eye movement program. Each subject received intervention three times a week for twelve weeks. The final measurement was the ocular motor computerized test before and after treatment sessions through an independent assessor. Differences between the experimental group and control group were determined by assessing changes in oculomotor ability using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). The changes of visual fixation (p<.01), saccadic eye movement (p<.01) and pursuit eye movement (p<.01) were significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group. These results show that the postural movement normalization and eye movement program may be helpful to treat children with cerebral palsy who lose normal physical and eye movement.

  • In this research, and investigation of the eye movement was performend when the objects perceived by the eye are three-dimensional objects, two dimensional images, and trhee dimensional images. This investigation was done by observing the EQG(Electro- oculogram) waves which were obtained from experiments. The observed waves were categorized into several groups. Differences among the waves were analyzed for each object and image perceived by the eye. In order to obtain waves for analysis, two kinds of experiments were performen. In each experiment, the saccadic eye movement and the smooth pursuit eye movement were considered as an independent variables. Waves obtained from the experiments were categorized into 4 types (Wave-1, Wave-2, Wave-3, Wave-4) depending on their characteristics. Unlike the other images, three dimensional image was revealed as a key factor for the active movement of the eye. Futhermore, a unique eye movement was observed in the case of three dimensional images where the focus of the eye was achieved through three steps.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the differences in eye-tracking, which is one of the emotional reactions of the autonomic nervous system, against various experimental stimuli that vary in terms of the movement attributes of graphic image. This experiment conducted an analysis of variance of the movement factors(n) in each movement attribute(speed, horizontality movement, verticality movement, diagonal movement). Dependent variables were the fixation starting time, the fixation dwell time, the whole fixation time from stimulus appearance, and the eye-tracking length. The result of eye-tracking against movement speed showed nonsignificant differences for each movement attribute. In the horizontality movement, the → movement was higher than the ← movement. In the verticality movement, the ↑ movement was higher than the ↓ movement. In the diagonal movement, there was not significant differences for each movement attributes.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference between eye movements according to science achievement of elementary school students in observation situation. Science achievement was based on the results of national achievement test conducted in 2012, a random sampling of classes. As an assessment tool to check observation test, two observation measure problems from TSPS (Test of Science Process Skill; developed in 1994) suitable for eye tracking system are adopted. The subjects of this study were twenty students of sixth grade who agreed to participate in the research. SMI (SensoMotoric Instruments)' iView $X^{TM}$ RED was used to collect eye movement data and Experiment 3.1 and BeGaze 3.1 program were used to plan and analyze experiment. As a result, eye movements in observation test varied greatly in fixation duration, frequency, saccade, saccade velocity and eye blink according to students' science achievement. Based on the result of eye movements analysis, heuristic search eye movement was discussed as an alternative to improve underachievers' science achievement.

  • The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of eye movement on cognitive ability using Mini-Mental State Examination for Dementia Screening (MMSE-DS) and the amplitude and latency of P300 from event-related potentials after 55 elderly participants were randomly stratified into the saccadic eye movement (SEM) group and the smooth pursuit eye movement (SPEM) group, and performed eye movement for 4 weeks. As a result, P300 amplitude significantly increased and P300 latency significantly shortened in the SEM and SPEM groups. MMSE-DS showed a significant increase in both groups; upon comparing the groups, the SEM group showed a significant difference in orientation and the SPEM group in attention. In conclusion, it is thought that SEM and SPEM can improve and maintain the cognitive ability of the elderly and may be used as therapeutic tools for dementia prevention and mild dementia.

  • When people recognize a landscape, they first need to see it for a definite period time. This study clarified the way green space in a landscape is recognized using eye movement analysis, and evaluated the Pffi9bility for quantifying stress-reducing effects of seeing a landscape. The results of the experiments on eye movement analysis suggest that the way of recognizing green space in a landscape may depend on a ratio of the amount of scenic greenery in a landscape, color and greenery layout. Especially, this study also suggests that the possibility of the greenery layout guiding eye movement could be verified by conducting a study on planting patterns. In addition, the results of the experiments for quantifying stress-reducing substances found that it is likely that a green space in an urban area has stress-reducing effects.

  • The main purpose of this research is to develop the methodology of objective evaluation of clothing appearance by eye movement analysis. The visual clothing items used in this study were skirt, one-piece, pants and shirt with the style variation of silhouette and details. By observing eye movement during visual evaluation of clothing, we can achieve the basic fixation data of eye movement. Moreover, we developed the Matlab program to extract the fixation coordinate and number of eye fixation on each part of the clothing item. As results, there were differences in the duration of fixation time for each item and the fixation time was not different by styles within a clothing item. However, we could find differences in the fixation time within a style, in other words, we could select the important parts of the clothing by observing the fixation time in a certain clothing item. It is also noted that time required in visual information processing differs depending on the item, and there was a region which contain more information independent with styles in the same item. By developing the objective method of visual evaluation that correspond to human's visual information processing, the results are expected to be applied in the retrieval program in internet shopping mall or in the development of contents for advertisement of clothing.

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to understand and identify the critical issues in vision research area using content analysis and network analysis. Background: Vision, the most influential factor in information processing, has been studied in a wide range of area. As studies on vision are dispersed across a broad area of research and the number of published researches is ever increasing, a bibliometric analysis towards literature would assist researchers in understanding and identifying critical issues in their research. Method: In this study, content and network analysis were applied on the meta-data of literatures collected using three search keywords: 'visual search', 'eye movement', and 'eye tracking'. Results: Content analysis focuses on extracting meaningful information from the text, deducting seven categories of research area; 'stimuli and task', 'condition', 'measures', 'participants', 'eye movement behavior', 'biological system', and 'cognitive process'. Network analysis extracts relational aspect of research areas, presenting characteristics of sub-groups identified by community detection algorithm. Conclusion: Using these methods, studies on vision were quantitatively analyzed and the results helped understand the overall relation between concepts and keywords. Application: The results of this study suggests that the use of content and network analysis helps identifying not only trends of specific research areas but also the relational aspects of each research issue while minimizing researchers' bias. Moreover, the investigated structural relationship would help identify the interrelated subjects from a macroscopic view.

  • The direction of eye movement in Pleuronectiformes is species-specific. In farmed flounder, deviations in eye direction can reduce marketability. Therefore, we explored the effects of genetic and environmental factors on the direction of eye movements in the starry flounder Platichthys stellatus to address this economic challenge. Four pairs of female and male starry flounder broodstock, with eyes positioned to the right or left, were used in a mating experiment. The experimental groups were established with breeding seawater temperatures set at 10, 14, and 18℃ for the water temperature experiment. Whole-body samples of juveniles were collected to analyze the expression of genes related to eye movement and direction. The mating experiment results showed no significant differences in abnormal eye movement. In the water temperature experiment, the rate of abnormal eye movement was significantly higher at 32.19±1.33% in the 18℃ group than in the 10 and 14℃ groups. Genetic analysis of eye movement related to water temperature revealed that the expression of eye migration genes was significantly higher at 10℃. Moreover, no significant differences were observed in mating experiments. In conclusion, water temperature and not mating affected the eye movement of starry flounder.
