Delay Performance Analysis of the NAK-based SR-ARQ Protocol with the Reverse Acknowledgment (RA) Scheme

  • The reverse acknowledgment (RA) scheme supports a fast loss recovery for negative acknowledgment (NAK)-based selective repeat automatic repeat request (SR-ARQ) by detecting a retransmission failure quickly before a retransmission timer expires. In this paper, we evaluate the performance of a NAK-based SR-ARQ protocol with the RA scheme and compare it with the conventional NAK-based SR-ARQ protocol. Particularly, we propose a simple analysis model for the transport delay of the NAK-based SR-ARQ protocol considering the traffic condition, the retransmission persistence, the timer-based retransmissions and the RA scheme's behavior. Both NAK-based SR-ARQ protocols with and without the RA scheme are implemented by using the OPNET simulator. We verified the analysis model's accuracy through the simulation results. Also, we evaluate the performance of the NAK-based SR-ARQ protocol with the RA scheme based on analysis and simulation results.

  • Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA), a non-parametric productivity analysis tool, has become an accepted approach for assessing efficiency in a wide range of fields. Despite of its extensive applications, some features of DEA remain bothersome. DEA offers no guidelines to where relatively inefficient DMU(Decision Making Unit) improve since a reference set of an inefficient DMU consists of several efficient DMUs and it doesn't provide a stepwise path for improving the efficiency of each inefficient DMU considering the difference of efficiency. We aim to show that DEA can be used to evaluate the efficiency of System Integration Projects and suggest the methodology which overcomes the limitation of DEA through hybrid analysis utilizing DEA along with machine learning.

  • Fracture mechanics is one of the major areas of the pressurized thermal shock (PTS) evaluation. To evaluate the reactor pressure vessel integrity associated with PTS, PFM methodology demands precise calculation of temperature, stress, and stress intensity factor for the variety of PTS transients. However, the existence of stainless steel cladding, with different thermal, physical, and mechanical property, at the inner surface of reactor pressure vessel complicates the fracture mechanics analysis. In this paper, treatment schemes to evaluate stress and resulting stress intensity factor for RPV with stainless steel clad are introduced. For a reference transient, the effects of clad thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficients on deterministic fracture mechanics analysis are examined.

  • Air-operated valve is one of principal valves that are used to control fluid flow in nuclear power plants. It is necessary to evaluate periodically the performance of the AOV(Air-Operated Valve) which is used for controlling flow and pressure in nuclear power plants. In this study, we developed the integrated program HAES including hardware system to evaluate the performance of AOV. HAES(HANVIT AOV Evaluation System) consists of many modules such as valve information, thrust and torque analysis, actuator analysis, weak analysis and margin analysis. We applied with the test valve and showed that results evaluated by HAES is similar to those offered in the plant.

  • Value-based requirements engineering process, called The ViRE(Value-Innovative Requirement Engineering) was suggested to create an uncontested market using ERRC(Eliminate, Reduce, Raise, Create) requirements analysis. But ViRE did not provides a quantitative data analysis method for ERRC decision so as to make objective decisions for customers. In this paper, to solve this problem, we suggest a quantitative ERRC analysis method by estimating requirements cost. Our method defines user requirements and decides their weight. Then, it makes quality level table for all the identified requirements and function modules and estimate implementation cost based on their quality levels. Finally, assess each requirement's impact and then evaluate ERRC value. We could get the more objective ERRC values by evaluate the requirement weight. functional module weight, and implementation cost. And we proved the efficiency of our model by a case study, smart student ID system.

  • Recent advances in embedded system technology have brought more dependence on automating train control. While much efforts have been reported to improve electronic hardware's safety, not so much systematic approaches to evaluate software's safety, especially for the vital software running on board train controllers. In this paper, we have developed a software testing tool to evaluate train control system software safety, expecially "Metric Analysis" module. We have reviewed requirements in the international standards and surveyed available tools in the market. From this, we identified the S/W metric analysis module is required for software evaluation. So we have developed S/W metric analysis module for railway signaling systems.

Effect of horizontal at rest pressure (Po) on elastic modulus from pressuremeter testing

  • Modulus of deformation of soil is an essential parameter used for design analysis of foundations, despite its importance; little attention is paid to developing empirical models for predicting the sensitivity of deformation moduli to other parameters that obtained from the pressuremeter tests. Various methods of analysis used to predict the horizontal at rest pressure from pressuremeter testing ($P_o$), these values showed distinctive variations, five methods used to evaluate the values of horizontal at rest pressure, these values been used to evaluate the modulus of elasticity using three methods of analysis. The values of modulus showed distinctive increase when the values of horizontal at rest pressure increase for the same pressuremeter test, these increases may reach to 65%. This sensitivity of the moduli to values of horizontal lead the author to propose some reliable methods of analysis for both the horizontal at rest pressure and the modulus of deformation from pressuremeter testing.

  • Human reliability analysis (HRA) is a proactive approach to model and evaluate human systematic errors, and has been extensively applied in various complicated systems. Dependence assessment among human errors plays a key role in the HRA, which relies heavily on the knowledge and experience of experts in real-world cases. Moreover, there are ofthen different types of uncertainty when experts use linguistic labels to evaluate the dependencies between human failure events. In this context, this paper aims to develop a new method based on linguistic hesitant fuzzy sets and the technique for human error rate prediction (THERP) technique to manage the dependence in HRA. This method handles the linguistic assessments given by experts according to the linguistic hesitant fuzzy sets, determines the weights of influential factors by an extended best-worst method, and confirms the degree of dependence between successive actions based on the THERP method. Finally, the effectiveness and practicality of the presented linguistic hesitant fuzzy THERP method are demonstrated through an empirical healthcare dependence analysis.

Structural stability evaluation of TBM tunnels using numerical analysis approach

  • To properly simulate the excavation process and evaluate the structural stability of the tunnel, rigorous large deformation analysis method is necessary. This study applies two most widely used numerical approaches capable of modelling and considering the large deformations behavior during excavation process to analyze and evaluate the structural stability of circular tunnel based on tunnel boring machine (TBM) excavation. By comparing and combining the results from two numerical approaches, the deformation of the excavated ground will be analyzed. The stability of the circular tunnel from TBM tunneling was assessed based on the maximum deformation occurred during the excavation process. From the numerical computation it was concluded that although the range of the damage on the ground done during excavation was found to be larger under hard rock condition, maximum deformation within the circular tunnel structure was larger under weak ground conditions and deeper tunnel depths.
