  • A cloud computing system can be characterized by the provision of resources in the form of services to third parties on a leased, usage-based basis, as well as the private infrastructures maintained and utilized by individual organizations. To attain the desired reliability and energy efficiency in a cloud data center, trade-offs need to be carried out between system performance and power consumption. Resolving these conflicting goals is often the major challenge encountered in the design of optimization strategies for cloud data centers. The work presented in this paper is directed towards the development of an Energy-efficient and Performance-aware Cloud System equipped with strategies for dynamic switching of optimization approach. Moreover, a platform is also provided for the deployment of a Wind Farm CMS (Condition Monitoring System) which allows ubiquitous access. Due to the geographically-dispersed nature of wind farms, the CMS can take advantage of the cloud's highly scalable architecture in order to keep a reliable and efficient operation capable of handling multiple simultaneous users and huge amount of monitoring data. Using the proposed cloud architecture, a Wind Farm CMS is deployed in a virtual platform to monitor and evaluate the aging conditions of the turbine's major components in concurrent, yet isolated working environments.

  • Cloud-based architectures for precision agriculture are domain-specific controlled and require remote access to process and analyze the collected data over third-party cloud computing platforms. Due to the dynamic changes in agricultural parameters and restrictions in terms of accessing cloud platforms, developing a locally controlled and real-time configured architecture is crucial for efficient water irrigation and farmers management in agricultural fields. Thus, we present a new implementation of an independent sensor-enabled architecture using variety of wireless-based sensors to capture soil moisture level, amount of supplied water, and compute the reference evapotranspiration (ETo). Both parameters of soil moisture content and ETo values was then used to manage the amount of irrigated water in a small-scale agriculture field for 356 days. We collected around 34,200 experimental data samples to evaluate the performance of the architecture under different agriculture parameters and conditions, which have significant influence on realizing real-time monitoring of agricultural fields. In a proof of concept, we provide empirical results that show that our architecture performs favorably against the cloud-based architecture, as evaluated on collected experimental data through different statistical performance models. Experimental results demonstrate that the architecture has potential practical application in a many of farming activities, including water irrigation management and agricultural condition control.

  • Closed-circuit television (CCTV) technology continuously captures and stores video streams. Users are typically required by policy to store all the captured video for a certain period. Accordingly, increasing the number of CCTV operation cycles and photographing positions expands the amount of data to be stored. However, expanding the available storage space for video data incurs increased costs. In recent years, this problem has been addressed with cloud storage solutions, which enable multiple users and devices to access and store data simultaneously. However, because of the large amount of data to be stored, a vast storage space is required. Consequently, cloud storage administrators need a way to store data more efficiently. To save storage space, deduplication technology has been proposed to prevent duplicate storage of the same data. However, because cloud storage is hosted on remote servers, data encryption technology must be applied to address data exposure issues. Although deduplication techniques for encrypted data have been studied, there have been various security vulnerabilities. We attempted to solve this problem by addressing various issues such as poison attacks, property forgery, and ownership management while removing the redundant data and handling the data more securely.

  • This study investigates computing offloading effect of cloud in real-time video personal broadcast service, whose server is mobile device. Mobile device does not have enough computing resource for encoding video. The computing burden is offloaded to cloud, which has abundant resources in terms of computing, power, and storage compared to mobile device. By reducing computing burden, computation energy can be saved while transmission data amount increases because of decreasing compression efficiency. This study shows that the optimal operation point can be found adaptively to time-varying LTE communication condition result of tradeoff analysis between offloaded computation burden and increase in amount of transmitted data.

  • The benefit of the scalability and flexibility inherent in cloud computing motivates clients to upload data and computation to public cloud servers. Because data is placed on public clouds, which are very likely to reside outside of the trusted domain of clients, this strategy introduces concerns regarding the security of sensitive client data. Thus, to provide sufficient security for the data stored in the cloud, it is essential to encrypt sensitive data before the data are uploaded onto cloud servers. Although data encryption is considered the most effective solution for protecting sensitive data from unauthorized users, it imposes a significant amount of overhead during the query processing phase, due to the limitations of directly executing operations against encrypted data. Recently, substantial research work that addresses the execution of SQL queries against encrypted data has been conducted. However, there has been little research on top-k join query processing over encrypted data within the cloud computing environments. In this paper, we develop an efficient algorithm that processes a top-k join query against encrypted cloud data. The proposed top-k join processing algorithm is, at an early phase, able to prune unpromising data sets which are guaranteed not to produce top-k highest scores. The experiment results show that the proposed approach provides significant performance gains over the naive solution.

  • Cloud computing emerges as a new paradigm for deploying, managing and offering IT resources as a service anytime, anywhere on any devices. Cloud computing data center stores many IT resources through resource integration. So cloud computing system has to be designed by technology and policy to make effective use of IT resources. In other words, cloud vendor has to provide high quality services to all user and mitigate the dissipation of IT resources. However, vendors need to predict the performance of cloud services and the use of IT resources before releasing cloud service. For solving the problem, this research presents cloud service modeling on network environment and evaluation index for availability optimization of cloud service. We also study how to optimize an amount of requested cloud service and performance of datacenter using CloudSim toolkit.

  • Cloud storage services have many advantages. As a result, the amount of data stored in the storage of the cloud service provider is increasing rapidly. This increase in demand forces cloud storage providers to apply deduplication technology for efficient use of storages. However, deduplication technology has inherent security and privacy concerns. Several schemes have been proposed to solve these problems, but there are still some vulnerabilities to well-known attacks on deduplication techniques. In this paper, we examine some of the existing schemes and analyze their security weaknesses.

  • The new mobile edge network architecture has been required for an increasing amount of traffic, quality requirements, advanced driver assistance system for autonomous driving and new cloud computing demands on highway. This article proposes a hierarchical cloud computing architecture to enhance performance by using adaptive data load distribution for buses that play the role of edge computing server. A vehicular dynamic cloud is based on wireless architecture including Wireless Local Area Network and Long Term Evolution Advanced communication is used for data transmission between moving buses and cars. The main advantages of the proposed architecture include both a reduction of data loading for top layer cloud server and effective data distribution on traffic jam highway where moving vehicles require video on demand (VOD) services from server. Through the description of real environment based on NS-2 network simulation, we conducted experiments to validate the proposed new architecture. Moreover, we show the feasibility and effectiveness for the connected car media service on highway.
