  • A designer representing an avant guard fashion, Martin Margiela introduces experimental collections that seek ideational and ideal values, breaking away from limits of popular universality or usefulness of fashion. This study seeks to interpret Martin Margiela's design characteristics from the perspective of ambiguity, and thereby examine theoretical basis of meaning interpretation of his ambiguous and innovative design. In poetic meaning ambiguity is verbal nuance which gives room for alternative reaction the same piece of language. By way of study methods, concepts and characteristics of ambiguity were examined based on William Empson's seven types of ambiguity, and characteristics of Martin Margiela's fashion design were analyzed from the perspective of ambiguity. In the study, expression of ambiguity in Martin Margiela's fashion design was categorized into ambiguity of forms, that of meanings, and that of existence. Ambiguity of forms could be found indeterminate form of clothes and flat clothes. Ambiguity of meaning refers to ambiguity arising from the possibility of the meaning that fashion design is going to convey diverse interpretation. Ambiguity of meaning could be found up-cycling vintage clothes, semi-couture, signs of time, unfitting size, and symbolic letter. Ambiguity of existence could be found inanimate dummy, face shrouded with a veil and expression of multiple identity. In Martin Margiela's fashion design ambiguity gives rise to joy of something fresh, amusement felt about what deviates from normality and the possibility of fashion design's endless creations.

  • Extremely fine tine resolution of ultra-wideband (UWB) signal poses a new problems to the system designer. A reasonable accuracy of the system clock is necessary to process signals with such a high space resolution. A useful way of illustrating the time resolution of a signal is to evaluate the ambiguity function. The ambiguity function for carrierless UWB defined using the time mismatch and time scaling factor as its two parameters. The UWB ambiguity function is evaluated for various signaling schemes of impulse radio.

  • The ambiguity resolution is an essential task for the precise carrier phase differential GPS. In practice, however, there are still many problems in resolving the ambiguity in kinematic mode, especially in the urban areas. The multipath in received signal, the frequent change in visible satellites, and the cyclic slips make the ambiguity resolution very difficult task in real-time operation. In this paper, we consider a differential positioning with the float ambiguity that is free from the integer constraint. The float ambiguity estimation if carried out by the Kalman filter. The float and fixed ambiguities are combined together to determine the position in real-time kinematic mode.

  • Conventional Real Time Kinematics (RTK) collect measurements in stationary state for several minutes to resolve the integer ambiguity in the carrier phase measurement or resolve the integer ambiguity on the move assuming low maneuvering movement. In this paper, an On The Move-RTK (OTM-RTK) technique that resolves the integer ambiguity on the move for fast and precise positioning of ground vehicles such as high maneuvering vehicles was proposed. The OTM-RTK estimates the precise amount of movement between epochs using the carrier phase measurements acquired on the move, and by using this, resolves the integer ambiguity within a short period of time by evaluating the integer ambiguity candidates for each epoch. This study analyzed the integer ambiguity resolution performance using field driving experiment data in order to verify the performance of the proposed method. The results of the experiment showed that the precise trajectory including the initial position bias can be obtained prior to resolving the integer ambiguity, and after resolving the integer ambiguity on the move, it was possible to obtain the bias-corrected precise position solution. It was confirmed that the integer ambiguity can be resolved by collecting measurements of about 10 epochs from the moving vehicle using a dual frequency receiver.

  • Many researches on the GNSS integer ambiguity resolution methods for precise positioning and attitude determination applications have been done. However, by the time invariant property of the integer ambiguity, the reuse of integer ambiguity without performing time consuming integer search procedure is possible. In this paper, a new efficient integer ambiguity propagation method is proposed. The initial integer ambiguity can be determined using the famous LAMBDA method and it is propagated with the propagation method. The proposed method can reconfigure the integer ambiguity using the previous epoch's integer ambiguity and new carrier phase measurements under environmental variations such as geometry changes, signal blockage and reacquisition. Experiments with real measurements show the proposed method can determine an integer ambiguity effectively.

  • Background: The purpose of this study was to identify role ambiguity of comprehensive nursing care unit nurses. Methods: A concept analysis method by Walker and Avant was used to understand role ambiguity of comprehensive nursing care unit nurses. Results: The antecedents of role ambiguity of nurses at comprehensive nursing units were shortage of nurses, unclear admission criteria, and demands for customized nursing care according to severity. Attributes include ambiguity in role delegation, patient placement ambiguity, and professional ambiguity among nursing staff. The consequences were diminished job satisfaction due to excessive workload, difficulty in resolving role ambiguity due to the lack of work analysis studies, and poor outcome of nursing indicators. Conclusion: Improvement of nationwide awareness for comprehensive nursing care unit is required. Clear division at scope of practice for nursing staff in accordance of each medical institution's characteristics is essential. Nurses at comprehensive nursing care unit should understand nature of role ambiguity that occurs as they work in large groups. Nurses should promote communications between nursing staff and they must have volition to improve status quo. An additional research of comprehensive nursing care on the causes of role ambiguity in the practice of nursing care for ward nurses is needed, and management measures should be sought at the organizational level.

  • The attitude of a vehicle can be precisely determined using GPS carrier phase measurements from more than two antennas attached to a vehicle and an efficient integer ambiguity resolution technique. Many methods utilizing the known baseline length as a constraint of independent elements of integer ambiguities are proposed to resolve integer ambiguity at real time. Three-dimensional search space is reduced to two-dimensional search space with this constraint. Thus the true integer ambiguity can be easily determined with less computational burden and fewer number of measurements. But there are still strong requirements for the real time integer ambiguity resolution, which uses single epoch measurement of long baseline. In this paper, a new constraint from the geometry of multiple baselines is derived. With this new constraint, two-dimensional search space is further reduced to one-dimensional search space. It makes possible to determine integer ambiguity with single epoch measurement. The proposed method is applied to real data to show its effectiveness.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the regions of the cerebrum that handles the lexical and idiomatic ambiguity. The stimuli sets consist of two parts, and each part has 20 sets of sentences. For each part, 10 sets are experimental conditions and the other 10 sets are control conditions. Each set has two sentences, the 'context' and 'target' sentences, and a sentence-verification question for guaranteeing patients' concentration to the task. The results based on 15 patients showed that significant activation is present in the right frontal lobe of the cerebral cortex for both kinds of ambiguity. It means that right hemisphere participates in the resolution of ambiguity, and there are no regions specified for lexical ambiguity or idiomatic ambiguity alone.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify korean agricultural extension workers' Perception of role ambiguity according to restructuring of Agricultural Administrative Systems. The target population of this study was selected from 21 centers out of 156 centers. The subjects for study were 728 agricultural extension officers by the cluster sampling drawn from the sampled 21 agricultural extension centers in four clusters. A survey questionnaire was utilized to measure variables of this study. It consisted of role ambiguity scale and demographic items. In this study, role ambiguity scale was translated from the existing scale. Through a pilot test and final survey, reliability and validity of these scales were examined. The data were collected by mail. A total 420 questionnaires out of 728 from 21 agricultural extension centers were returned. After data cleaning, 410 responses were used for analysis. Both descriptive and inferential statistics were applied for data analysis. Major findings of the study were as follows. There were significant differences of the degree of role ambiguity among the local extension workers divided by four clusters. Especially, the degree of role ambiguity of restructured local administrative system were more higher than other clusters, comparatively. Thus, the factors causing the role ambiguity to agricultural extension officers need to be measured it in-depth.

  • A real-time precise positioning is possible with GPS carrier phase measurements with efficient integer ambiguity resolution techniques. It is known that more reliable and fast integer ambiguity resolution is possi-ble as the number of measurements increases. Most precise positioning systems use dual frequency measurements and the wide-lnae technique to resolve integer ambiguity. The wide-lane technique magnifies the measurement noise while it reduces the number of candidates to be examined. In this paper a new integer ambiguity resolution method using dual frequency is proposed The proposed method utilizes the relationship between the wide-lane single frequency and the narrow-lane ambiguities to resolve narrow-lane integer ambiguity after fixing the wide-lane integer ambiguity. Experiments with real data show that the proposed method gives fast and reliable results.
