The purpose of this study was to suggest the optimum ambient illumination level for proper visualization in image inspection and reading on CRT and LCD monitors used for ultrasound and reading. The evaluators were divided into 4 groups: 20 (Ultra-sonographer: 20 groups (4 groups: ultra-sonographer, 1-5 years, 5 ultra-sonographers, 6 to 10 years, 5 ultra-sonographers, 11 to 15 years, The subjects were 32 questions. The evaluation method was image evaluation of ultrasonic soft copy images for 30 seconds per 10, 25, 100Lux ambient illumination. The evaluation results were evaluated as 6 points (Normal = Definitely no lesion), 2 points = possibly not a lesion, 3 points = probably not a lesion, 4 points = possibly a lesion, 5 points = probably a lesion, 6 points = Definitely a lesion). In this study, the results of ROC analysis according to ambient light illumination reading softcopy images used for lesion detection of all ultrasound images showed the highest sensitivity, specificity, and AUC results at 10Lux. It was found that optimal use of 10Lux for ambient light illumination would provide optimal detection of lesions in ultrasound soft copy images. Based on the future research data, it will be presented as basic data for designing ambient light brightness of ultrasound imaging laboratory and reading room.

The improvement of perspectives on dark and limited underground space could be an important factor in successful underground space development. The Current trend in the apartment underground parking garages requires not only quantitatively energy efficient design and operation but also qualitative improvement of the space. For this, we need to consider two factors: Firstly, to understand the characteristics of the lamps; Secondly, to improve the uniformity ratio of illuminance. In a winter season, a way to keep the uniformity and a method not to lower the indoor illuminance level by cold ambient air should be established. Therefore, a change in interval and arrangement of the lighting fixtures is required. Also, in their operations, the current time-fixed control method needs to be changed into the control which method considers the use pattern.
Daily monitoring of the heart rate can facilitate detection of heart-related diseases in their early stages. Therefore, providing an easy-to-use and noninvasive heart rate monitoring system has been a very popular research topic in the field of healthcare. One of good candidate methods is to use commonly available cameras and extract information that can help to estimate heart rate from a human face. Generally, such information can be retrieved using two different approaches: photoplethysmography (PPG) and ballistocardiography (BCG). PPG exploits slight color changes caused by blood volume variations during heartbeats; thus, it tends to be vulnerable to unstable lighting conditions. BCG exploits subtle head motions caused by pumped blood travelling through the carotid artery during heartbeats; thus, it is vulnerable to the voluntary head movements that are not related to heartbeats. Nevertheless, most related works use either to estimate the heart rate. In this paper, we propose to combine two approaches to be robust to challenging conditions. Specifically, we explore possible ways to combine raw signals obtained from two approaches and verify that the proposed combination shows better accuracies under challenging conditions, such as voluntary head movements and ambient lighting changes.
Visible light communications (VLC) using the intensity modulation of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) provides a new communication medium to overcome the shortage of radio spectrum, and allows reuse of LED lighting infrastructures. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) was introduced to VLC for its merits in mitigating the fading effects resulting from delay spread, and in avoiding low-frequency ambient interference. Noise and clipping are two major factors that degrade the performance of OFDM in VLC. A larger signal easily overcomes noise, but experiences impairment by clipping. Therefore, degradation due to clipping has a trade-off relationship with that due to noise, depending on the signal amplitude of OFDM. In this paper, the optimal signal amplitude in the trade-off is obtained by simulation when the dimming and LED intensity are given. The former indicates a user's requirement for lighting, and the latter represents the channel quality. The required LED intensity-to-noise ratio, as the channel quality that guarantees dimming as well as an adequate bit-error rate (BER), is also discussed.

An LED lighting control system was developed to combine information technology and LED lights for efficient management and energy savings. The system can monitor and control the status of an LED luminaire using Bluetooth wireless communication, sensor technology, and smart phones. An LED lighting control circuit was designed using a temperature sensor, illumination sensor, and Bluetooth module with a fuzzy constant-current control circuit. We extended the lifetime and prevented damage to the LED by optimizing the supply current of the LED luminaire based on the heat-generation temperature of $70^{\circ}C$ of an LED heat sink. We also automatically adjusted the ON/OFF time depending on the ambient illumination of the LED luminaire. By allowing easy control of the LED luminaires on a smartphone, we improved the efficiency and achieved energy savings. The control system was validated through experiments for normal operation.
We propose a deep learning-based method that can estimate an appropriate lighting of both indoor and outdoor images. The method consists of two networks: Crop-to-PanoLDR network and LDR-to-HDR network. The Crop-to-PanoLDR network predicts a low dynamic range (LDR) environment map from a single partially observed normal field of view image, and the LDR-to-HDR network transforms the predicted LDR image into a high dynamic range (HDR) environment map which includes the high intensity light information. The HDR environment map generated through this process is applied when rendering virtual objects in the given image. The direction of the estimated light along with ambient light illuminating the virtual object is examined to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. For this, the results from our method are compared with those from the methods that consider either indoor images or outdoor images only. In addition, the effect of the loss function, which plays the role of classifying images into indoor or outdoor was tested and verified. Finally, a user test was conducted to compare the quality of the environment map created in this study with those created by existing research.

The effects of prolonged photoperiod (additional night lighting) were investigated on the production of Ocimum basilicum (lemon basil) and fish/crayfish raised in a nutrient film technique aquaponic system. Hybrid lemon fin barb and red claw crayfish juveniles were co-cultured with O. basilicum and subjected to 12 h of ambient natural daylight and additional 0, 4, 8, and 12 h of night lighting for 14 weeks (two batches of 7 weeks each). The water quality parameters and the performance characteristics of the fish/crayfish/plant were evaluated, and the nutri- ent uptake (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) in the system by the three organisms was also measured. The fish growth performance showed no significant differences (p > 0.05) in all the growth parameters measured across the treatments. The body proximate and nitrogen, phosphate, and potassium (NPK) composition of the fish and crayfish were not significantly (p > 0.05) different across the treatments. Similarly, there was no significant difference (p > 0.05) in the NPK uptake by the fish and crayfish across the treatments. The plant growth performance showed that there were no significant (p > 0.05) differences in the plant growth parameters measured, except for % plant height gained in the 12 h-light treatment (403.2 ± 26.0%) which was significantly (p < 0.05) higher than other treatments and cycles. Hence, this study demonstrat- ed that varying supplementary night lighting has no significant effect on the growth performance of O. basilicum, hybrid lemon fin barb, and red claw crayfish. This study, therefore, suggests that supplementary night lighting should not be considered for O. basilicum production as it does not significantly improve the performance characteristics of the plant nor the fish co-cultured with it in a polyculture aquaponic system.
An automatic echelon feeder of brown rice was presented for quality inspection system using color image processing. A echelon feeder was developed with vibratory feeder and cylindrical indent singulator having oblique light. The vibratory feeder consisted of a hopper, electromagnetic vibrator and multichannel grooves and supply the grain sample to the singulator. The feeding performance such as feed rate, blocking frequency of the channel was dependent on the size of groove and vibration pattern. A cylindrical indent singulator consisted of a rotating cylinder, prisms and a tungsten-halogen light source. It delivered grain kernels under the camera in a echelon form and illuminate the kernels with oblique ray and ambient light. The size of the indents installed on the surface of the rotating cylinder was determined by the dimensions of the paddy and a small triangular prism was placed in each indent to apply $ 20^{\circ}$ oblique light to the grain kernel.
This paper proposes a novel technique for 3D scene relighting with interactive viewpoint changes. The proposed technique is based on a deep framebuffer framework for fast relighting computation which adopts image-based techniques to provide arbitrary view-changing. In the preprocessing stage, the shading parameters required for the surface shaders, such as surface color, normal, depth, ambient/diffuse/specular coefficients, and roughness, are cached into multiple deep framebuffers generated by several caching cameras which are created in an automatic manner. When the user designs the lighting setup, the relighting renderer builds a map to connect a screen pixel for the current rendering camera to the corresponding deep framebuffer pixel and then computes illumination at each pixel with the cache values taken from the deep framebuffers. All the relighting computations except the deep framebuffer pre-computation are carried out at interactive rates by the GPU.
Visible light communication (VLC) systems incorporate ambient lighting and wireless data transmission, and the experienced channel in indoor VLC is a major topic that should be examined for reliable communication. In this study, it is realized that multiple transmitters in classical alignment are the forceful factors for channel characteristics. In the frequency band, fluctuations with sudden drops are observed, where the fluctuation shape is related to the source layout and receiver location. These varying frequency-selective channels need solutions, especially for mobile users, because sustained channel estimation and equalization are necessary as the receiver changes its location. It is proven that using light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with highly directional beams as sources or using a detector with a narrow field of view (FOV) in the receiver may help partially alleviate the problem; the frequency selectivity of the channel reduces in some regions of the room. For flat fading channel characteristics all over the room, LEDs should be aligned in hexagonal cellular structure, and detector FOV should be arranged according to the cell dimension outcomes.
