A 3-ply clad metal consisting of aluminum and copper was fabricated by roll bonding process and the microstructures and mechanical properties of the roll-bonded and post-roll-bonding heat treated Cu/Al/Cu clad metal were investigated. A brittle interfacial reaction layer formed at the Cu/Al interfaces at and above $400^{\circ}C$. The thickness of the reaction layer increased from $12{\mu}m$ at $400^{\circ}C$ to $28{\mu}m$ at $500^{\circ}C$. The stress-strain curves demonstrated that the strength decreased and the ductility increased with heat treatment up to $400^{\circ}C$. The clad metal heat treated at $300^{\circ}C$ with no indication of a reaction layer exhibited an excellent combination of the strength and ductility and no delamination of layers up to final fracture in the tensile testing. Above $400^{\circ}C$, the ductility decreased rasxpidly with little change of strength, reflecting the brittle nature of the intermetallic interlayers. In Cu/Al/Cu clad heat treated above $400^{\circ}C$, periodic parallel cracks perpendicular to the stress axis were observed at the interfacial reaction layer. In-situ optical microscopic observation revealed that cracks were formed in the Cu layer due to the strain concentration in the vicinity of horizontal cracks in the intermetallic layer, promoting the premature fracture of Cu layer. Vertical cracks parallel to the stress axis were also formed at 15% strain at $500^{\circ}C$, leading to the delamination of the Cu and Al layers.
Conventional bake-hardenable(BH) steels should be annealed at higher temperatures because of the addition of Ti or/and Nb which forms carbides and raises recrystallization start temperature. In this study, the development of new BH steels without Ti or Nb addition has been reviewed. The new BH steels have nearly same mechanical properties as the conventional BH steels even though it is annealed at lower temperature. The steels also show smaller deviation of the mechanical properties than that of the conventional BH steels because of the conarol of solute carbon content during steel making processes. The deviation of mechanical properties in conventional BH steels is directly dependent on the deviation of solute carbon which is greatly influenced by the amount of the carbide formers in conventional BH steels. Less alloy addition in the newly developed BH steels gives economical benefits. By taking the advantage of sulfur and/or nitrogen which scarenge in Interstitial-Free or conventional BH steels, fine manganese sulfides or nano size copper sulfides were designed to precipitate, and result in refined ferrite grains. Aluminum nitrides used as a precipitation hardening element in the developed steels were also and resull in fine and well dispersed. As a result, the developed steels with less production cost and reduced deviation of mechanical properties are under commercial production. Note that the developed BH steels are registered as a brand name of MAFE(R) and/or MAF-E(R).

The separation of palladium from crude metal, which is obtained from electronic waste using pyrometallurgy was achieved through electrolysis. This was done to recover high-purity copper. The oxidation potentials of these metals are a fundamental part of the analysis of electrolytic separation of palladium and impurity metals. To achieve this, copper, iron, and nickel were dissolved in the electrolyte, and palladium and aluminum were found to be recoverable from anode slime. During the electrolysis for palladium separation, palladium was present in the anode slime and was obtained with a recovery of 97.46 % indicating almost no loss. 4N-grade copper was recovered from the electrodeposition layer at the cathode.
In this study, based on PLA, we analyzed the Hounsfield Unit (HU) of materials containing 20% each of aluminum, wood, copper, carbon, and marble, and tried to analyze how they affect the image. A cylindrical phantom of 5×30×30 ㎣ (thickness×diameter×height) was fabricated using a entry-level 3D printer. The kV was changed to 80, 100 and 120, and the mAs was changed to 100 and 200 mAs, and the phantom in the center of the table was cross-scanned under a total of six conditions. A circular ROI was set using image J program and the quantification value of the material part HU and the quantification value of the peripheral part CNR were obtained. The HU average of the material part increased in the order of [PLA - wood 20%], [PLA - marble 20%], [PLA - carbon 20%], [PLA 100%], [PLA - aluminum 20%], [PLA - copper 20%] (p<0.05) a negative correlation was confirmed with the HU by increasing kV. It was confirmed that the CNR value in the peripheral area increased in the order of [PLA - marble 20%], [PLA - copper 20%], [PLA - carbon 20%], [PLA - wood 20%], [PLA - aluminum 20%], and [PLA - 100%] (p<0.05). Human organs with similar HU values for each material are [PLA - copper 20%] compact bone, [PLA - aluminum 20%] cancellous bone, [PLA 100%] coagulated blood, [PLA - carbon 20%] and [PLA - marble 20%] liver, muscle, spleen and [PLA - wood 20%] had similar values to fat. In addition, we confirmed the blur phenomenon that blurs the image around the filament with all materials, and confirmed that [PLA 100%] especially has the most blur around the filament. Therefore, it is considered desirable to reflect the HU value of the target organ and consider cloudiness around the phantom when selecting materials for medical phantom fabrication, and this research can provide basic data.
A literature review is made on the physical and chemical characteristics of clay minerals in acidic solutions from the mineralogical and hydrometallurgical viewpoints. Some of the important characteristics of clays are their ability to cation exchange, swelling, and incongruent dissolution in acidic solutions. Various clay minerals can take up metallic ions from solution via cation exchange mechanism. Generally, cation exchange capacity increases in the following order : kaolinite, halloysite, illite, vermiculite, and montmorillonite. In acidic solutions, the cation uptake such as copper by clay minerals is strongly inhibited by hydrogen and aluminum ions and thus is not economically significant factor for recovery of metals such as uranium and copper. In acidic solutions, the cation uptake is substial. Swelling is minimal at lower pH, possibly due to lattice collapse. Swelling may be controllable with montmorillonite type clays by exchanging interlayer sodium with lithium and/or hydroxylated aluminum species. The effect of add on clay minerals are : 1. Division of aggregates into smaller plates with increase in surface area and porosity. 2. Clay-acid reactions occur in the following order: (i) $H^+$ replacement of interlayer cations, (ii) removal of octahedral cations, such as Al, Fe, and Mg, and (iii) removal of tetrahedral Al ions. Acid attack initiates, around the edges of the clay particles and continued inward, leaving hydrated silica gel residue around the edges. 3. Reaction rates of (ii) and (iii) are pseudo-1st order and proportional to acid concentration. Rate doubles for every temperature increment of $10^{\circ}C$. Implications in in-situ leaching of copper or uranium with acid are : 1. Over the life span of the operation for a year or more, clays attacked by acid will leave silica gel. If such gel covers the surface of valuable mineral surfaces being leached, recovery could be substantially delayed. 2. For a copper deposit containing 0.5% each of clay minerals and recoverable copper, the added cost due to clay-acid reaction is about 1.5c/lb of copper (or 0.93 lbs of $H_2SO_4/1b$ of copper). This acid consumption by clay may be a factor for economic evaluation of in-situ leaching of an oxide copper deposit.
Background: Due to the rapid aging of the South Korean population, neurological diseases such as dementia are increasing. Many studies have reported that the incidence of dementia is associated with environmental factors along with age. Objectives: This study analyzed the association between cognitive function and ten heavy metals in the body: arsenic, aluminum, chromium, manganese, cobalt, nickel, iron, copper, zinc, and lead. Methods: From 2018 to 2019, a total of 120 participants who suffered from cognitive impairment were recruited for this study. Blood and urine samples were collected and analyzed for heavy metal concentrations using an inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometer. Demographic information was obtained through face-to-face questionnaires completed by a trained investigator. Cognitive function was evaluated with the Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination and the Korean version of the Boston Name Waiting Test. The associations between cognitive function scores and heavy metal concentrations were analyzed using multiple logistic regression analysis. Results: The average age of the 120 participants was 72.7 years, and 69.2% were female. The mean of the MMSE-K and K-BNT scores were 22.9 and 37.9, respectively. The geometric mean of aluminum (Al) was 8.42 ㎍/L. MMSE-K was associated with iron (Fe), but the significance was removed in the logistic regression based on 24 points. K-BNT was significantly associated with aluminum and the odds ratio for K-BNT above 38 decreased by 45% as the aluminum concentration increased. Conclusions: The association between aluminum and the K-BNT score indicated that aluminum is associated with language-related cognitive decline. Based on this result, further study will be conducted by considering co-exposure effects of heavy metals including aluminum.

The plate fin and tube type of heat exchanger is widely used in air conditioner, and the heat exchanger is assembled by the mechanical expansion of copper tubes and fastening the aluminum fin. The objective of the present study is to investigate how the mechanical expansion of copper tube affects on the heat transfer performance of a plate fin and tube type heat exchanger. This study has been performed by experimental and numerical methods. The numerical and experimental results show that the tube expansion ratio has a influence on the heat transfer performance. Within the tested expansion ratio, the contact pressure shows the peak value and it decreases as the expansion ratio increases. Air-side heat transfer coefficient increases until the expansion ratio reaches 1.23, and then decreases with the similar pattern to the contact pressure. Also, contact heat transfer coefficient shows the maximum when the contact pressure is highest as well as the air-side heat transfer coefficient.

The present study is concerned with the hydrostatic extrusion process of copper-clad aluminium bar to investigate the bonding conditions as well as the basic flow characteristics. Considering the bonding mechanism of bi-metal contact surface as cold pressure welding the normal pressure and the contact surface expansion are selected as process parameters governing the bonding conditions, in this study the critical normal pressure required for the local extrusion-the protrusion of virgin surfaces by the surface expansion at the interface-is obtained using a slip line method and is then used as a criteron for the bonding. A rigid plastic finite element method is used to analyze the steady state extrusion process. The interface profile of bi-metal rod is predicted by tracking the paths of two particles adja-process. The interface profile of bi-metal rod is predicted by tracking the paths of two particles adja-cent to interface surface. The contact surface area ration and the normal pressure along the interface are calculated and compared to the critical normal pressure to check bonding. It is found that the model predictions are generally in good agreement with the experimental observations. The compar-isons of the extrusion pressure and interface profile by the finite element with those by experi-ments are also given.

A complete quantitative understanding of DT has been difficult because the process represents such a broad field of research. The experimental measurement of tool force is a single area of DT which still covers a wide range of possibilities. There are numerous parameters of the process which affect cutting forces. There are also many turnable materials of current interest. To obtain information toward a better understanding of the process, a few cutting parameters and materials were selected for detail study. It was decided that free-oxygen copper and 6061-T6 alloy aluminum would be the primary test materials. There are materials which other workers have also used because of there wide use in reflective applications. The experimental phase of the research project began by designing tests to isolate certain cutting parameters. The parameters chosen to study were those that affected the cross-sectional area of the uncut chip. The specific parameters which cause this area to vary are the depth of cut and infeed per revolution, or feedrates. Other parameter such a tool nose radius and surface roughness were investigated as they became relevant to the research.
