  • Waste aluminum dross was leached with hydrochloric acid to prepare PAC, poly aluminium chloride, used as water treatment chemicals. Metallic aluminum remained in the waste aluminum dross was dissolved into the hydrochloric acid solution. The solution could be used as PAC after adjusting the required alumina concentration and the basicity. Comparing to the conventional method far preparation of PAC using aluminum hydroxide, material cost could be saved in this method. Also, there is an additional merit in view of recycling of the waste aluminum dross by reducing the amount of waste dross to be landfilled.

  • This paper is aimed to study the influence of aluminium dross from Thai aluminum casting factory on polypropylene matrix-polymer composite material properties. The summarized experimental results are as follows. An increase in the amount of aluminum dross polymer composite material affected to increase hardness, modulus of elasticity and abrasion resistance. However, the increase of the aluminum dross had no effects to change the yield strength and the melting temperature of the polymer composite material. The aluminum dross also affected to form the crystallinity at $117-122^{\circ}C$ and directly increased the rigid property of the composite materials. The microstructure examination revealed that the aluminum dross was located in a polymer matrix and affected to increase the dark colour of the polymer composite material.

  • This study investigated the recovery of metallic aluminium in the black dross generated from used beverage can recycling process with crushing mechanism such as compression and impact. The as-received Al black dross had a spherical shape, and its size was about 10~40 mm. Also, The X-ray diffraction pattern showed that the main contents of black dross are composed of halite (NaCl), sylvite (KCl), spinel ($MgAl_2O_4$) and corundum ($Al_2O_3$). A metallic aluminium recovery test was performed using jaw crusher and hammer mill having different crushing mechanism. It was analysed that Jaw crushing process can separate into metallic aluminium and non metallic constituents. However, hammer milling process shows significant difference on the separation results. It was found that jaw crushing process was effective for recovery of metallic aluminium in the black dross than that of hammer milling process.

  • Waste aluminum dross was processed to prepare alum with sulfuric acid, and poly aluminum chloride(PAC) with hydrochloric acid. Metallic aluminum remained in the waste dross was dissolved into the sulfuric acid solution, and the solution could be used as alum for water treatment chemicals after adjusting the required alumina concentration and pH of the solution. Also, it was dissolved into the hydrochloric acid solution and processed to make PAC solution. Compared with the conventional method for preparation of alum and PAC using aluminum hydroxide, material cost could be saved in this method. Also, there is an additional merit in view of recycling of the waste aluminum dross by reducing the amount of waste disposed to landfill.

  • Recycling of aluminum dross is a significant issue in domestic aluminum industry. In this study, formed ceramic materials were prepared using aluminum dross mixed with feldspar powders to investigate its application as industrial materials and utilization of aluminum dross. In the prepared sample, feldspar was melted at the sintered temperature, and its phase was trans-formed into amorphous, and spinel ($MgA1_2$$O_4$) phase in the dross was remained clearly. Density of the test specimen Increased from 0.91 to 0.65 gr/㎤ and water absorbance decreased from 2.5 to 1.7f% with increasing of sintered time at the sintered temperature $1220^{\circ}C$ with composition of feldspar 55 wt%, dross 40wt% and bentonite 5 wt%. At the same experimental conditions, bending strength of the test specimen was 10.8 MPa, and heat conductivity was 0.34 W/m.K with sintered time 30 minutes.

  • Black dross contains metallic aluminium, alumina, silica, MgO, soluble salts together with minor ingredients. Control of silica in black dross is important in transforming the black dross into usable materials. First, most of the soluble salts (KCl and NaCl) in black dross were dissolved in water at reaction temperature of $50^{\circ}C$. Leaching behavior of silica, alumina, MgO and $TiO_2$ from the residue after water treatment was investigated by varying NaOH concentration and reaction temperature. Reaction temperature ($25{\sim}95^{\circ}C$) was favorable to the leaching of alumina but an optimum temperature existed for silica. MgO was not dissolved at all in the NaOH concentration range from 2 to 6 M. At the leaching condition of 5 M NaOH and reaction temperature of $95^{\circ}C$, approximately 80% of alumina and 68% of silica was dissolved.

  • The zind bate contaminated in the hot dip galvannealed operation was successfully by appling the dross formation mechanism ; the Fe content was lowered from 0.028% to 0.011% and the dress size was decreased from 15~20$\mu\textrm{m}$ to under 3$\mu\textrm{m}$. The cooled metal from CGL zinc bath during operation of the galvannealed steel strip was remelted in graphite crucible at the lab and agitated after increasing Al content from 0.14% to 0.16% with decreasing the molten metal temperature from $470^{\circ}C$to $445^{\circ}C$. The agitating was done by agitator and nitrogen. The molten was analyed by SEM and EDS. It was considered that the Fe and the bottom dross($FeZN_7$) could react with aluminium to from the float dress($Fe_2Al_5$) according to the molten metal temperature down and the float dress rise to the surface of the zine bath. So the Fe and dross in the bath could be romoved out of the bath. It was confirmed that the proper purication conditions of GA zine bath is 0.02% of Al increasing, bath temperature down from $460^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$and agitator and nitrogen.

  • Black dross is a dark gray dross generated during the aluminum recycling process that uses flux, and contains NaCl, KCl, Al2O3, MgO, etc. Black dross is separated into soluble substances (NaCl, KCl) and insoluble substances (Al2O4, MgO) through the dissolution process. Soluble materials can be reused as salt flux, and Al2O3 and MgO can be upcycled to various ceramic materials through the synthesis process. In this study, Mayenite was synthesized using Al2O3 and MgO recovered from black dross, and the synthesis was performed according to the mixing ratio and reaction temperature. It was confirmed that when Mayenite was synthesized using black dross (spinel) and CaCO3, precursors were changed to Mg0.4Al2.4O4 and CaO at 700 ℃, and to Ca12Al14O33 (Mayenite) after 800 ℃. In the mixing conditions experiment, it was confirmed that the Mayenite XRD peak increased with increase of the CaCO3 content, and the Mg0.4Al2.4O4 XRD peak decreased. As a result of the BET analysis of the synthesized powder, the surface area decreased as the fine particles were grown and agglomerated in the process of generating mayenite.
