Study of Failure Examples Involved in Turbocharger System of the Diesel Engine a Vehicle (디젤 엔진 자동차의 터보차저 시스템과 관련된 고장사례 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to study for turbocharger system in a vehicle of diesel engine. The first example, it certified the fact that a car engine is not to accelerate by clogged the exhaust tube as the turbine was damaged because of turbine wheel broken. The a vehicle with turbocharger must to stop engine operation after maintaining the appropriate idle revolution as it can be the sticking phenomenon if the operator immediately stop the engine being high revolution. The second example, it knew the phenomenon of acceleration faulty that the rod of VGT actuator that operating the turbocharger adhered with the bracket of VGT. The third example, it confirmed the power insufficiency phenomenon when driving by of alternator resistor and fan intercooler fan relay connector mistaken assembly. Therefore, the operator have to scrutinize manage no the failure of turbocharger system.

A Study on Generating efficiency of the Double Acting Stirling Engine/Generator (양방향 스털링엔진/발전기의 효율 특성 연구)

  • This paper describes generating efficiency characteristics of the double acting Stirling engine/generator for domestic small-scale CHP (Combined Heat and Power) system. In small distributed generation applications, Stirling engine has competition from fuel cell, microturbine and etc. In order to be economical in the applications, a long life with minimum maintenance is generally required. Free piston Stirling engine (FPSE) has no crank and rotating parts to generate lateral forces and require lubrication. Double acting Stirling engine/generator has one displacer and two power piston which are supported by flexure springs. Two power pistons oscillate with symmetric displacement and are connected with moving magnet type linear generators for power generation from PV work. In experiments, 1 kW class double acting free piston Stirling engine/generator is fabricated and tested. Heat is supplied to hot end of engine by the combustion of natural gas and converted to electric power by linear generators which are assembled with power pistons. The electric parameters such as voltage, current and phase are measured with for variable flow rate of fuel gas. Especially, generating efficiency of FPSE is measured with three different measurement methods. Generating efficiency of the double acting Stirling engine/alternator is about 24%.

  • Faults in electric power system can be a critical problem for vehicles. The system durability is determined mainly by the durability of their components and operating conditions. Monitoring the conditions of the electric power system may be necessary because it is very difficult to predict precisely when it will fail. Therefore, the aim of this study was to develop a diagnosis system for an electric power system of a vehicle. The alternator voltage, excitation voltage, lamp voltage, battery voltage, and engine rpm from a crank angle sensor are monitored continuously and the system fault can be then detected in real time. NI USB- 9201 DAQ and LabVIEW SW have been used to measure the voltages and analyze the data. Compared to conventional measurements for only each component, an integrated and portable measurement method was developed. In addition to the monitoring the electric power system in real time, the saved data from the measurement also provides valuable information to improve the durability of the components.

Development of Hybrid AVR for Alternator (교류 발전기용 하이브리드 자동 전압 조정기 개발)

  • An analog AVR has an advantage of short time constant, time to revert again from the abnormal state to a stable one depending on the voltage fluctuations of the load. But the Analog AVR has a disadvantage of large voltage variation according to the load fluctuation. Voltage regulation for digital AVR is very stable, but the time constant is very long compared to that of an analog AVR. Therefore, it indicates that the digital AVR shows unstable output performance in a very large load variations. In this paper, a mixed form of an analog AVR and a digital AVR is proposed. An implemented hybrid AVR has fast time constant and stable voltage regulation capability. Hybrid AVR voltage variations in the load is stable within 1[%] and the voltage stability is also improved. It also showed fast time constant to the level of the analog AVR. Thus hybrid AVR developed in this paper can be used as a power supply for a variety of uses in industry.

  • Electromagnetic analysis has been made for the design of 3 MJ Compulsator (Compensated Pulsed Alternator, CPA) that will be used as the power supply system of the electrothermal-chemical launcher system. using finite element method with ANSYS/Emag. From the analysis results, it was possible to decide the excitation MMF and the rotor/stator size to obtain the desired output current. And using electromagnetic forces from the analysis results. the stresses on the components of 3 MJ CPA could be analyzed. The detailed design based on the analysis results has been made and the fabrication of 3 MJ CPA is in progress. Before assembling components into 3 MJ CPA. an experiment is being made to check the correspondence between analysis results and measurements.

  • Furthermore the rothor pole, with a solid type, manufactured by cold forging process at present should dmploy 3 press lines which consist of total 7 processes. Since A.S.B. treatment is prerequisite for the press line, the 3 times of A.S.B. treatment requires a long lead time, with little contribution to the reduction in cost. The author has investigated, through this researach, the possibility of a new forging method for a rotor pole production with (1) 2 pass instead of 3 press lines (2) only one A.S.B. treatment instead of 3 ones (3) solid type instead of sectional type, and (4) improvment of material property during process using a modified forging process and a specially designed die.

  • 24V DC power system of commercial vehicle includes 28V alternator and 24V battery bank (two 12V battery bank in series). BEQ(Battery Equalizer) provides efficient and reliable 12V DC power to 12V electrical load in 24V DC power system.   • This paper presents a development of the auxiliary power supply simulator for a electric rolling stock. An auxiliary power supplies are required for operating air conditioning units, ventilation fans, lighting and battery charging. Traditionally this function has been fulfilled by Motor-Alternator sets. In recent years, high performance of semiconductor and micro processor, availability and price have made three phase voltage source inverters as an attractive alternative to MA Sets. From the baseline model of the SIV(Static InVerter) for electric rolling stock, we designed the scale down model of the auxiliary power supply simulator consisting of an IGBT three phase voltage source inverter. The auxiliary power supply simulator can be used educatory purpose for training efficiently about operating principles of SIV.

  • The performance of a passenger vehicle has been greatly improved recently owing to the intensive use of electronic controllers. Many components of a vehicle, including the engine, are controlled by electronic systems installed in the vehicle. Therefore, the electrical power required for such electronics has increased significantly. However, the electrical power generated by the vehicle's alternator, operated by the engine, is limited, and when the vehicle is started, a large instantaneous current is required. The voltage of the vehicle electrical system fluctuates to a very low level, then, it is gradually recovered. This case is very severe and can even cause damage to electronic systems. In this study, a voltage-stabilizing module comprising electric double layer supercapacitors, which could alleviate the voltage variation, was developed and tested.

  • Post industrial technologies have improved human standard of living, however, a host of negative environmental consequences from the unlimited industrial appetite have posed serious global challenges. Remanufacturing is an industrial manufacturing process that is to restore old products to perform like a new and to save energy, natural resources, landfill space and to reduce air pollution by less re-smelting. By extending product lift cycle, remanufacturing gives us enormous opportunities for sustainable development of our society. This paper introduces needs and current state of the art in the field of remanufacturing, also analyzes old products in terms of product variety and wear conditions with an example of automobile alternators. Then, a general and a product-specified remanufacturing process will be determined with them. Finally, this paper shows systemized guidelines for remanufacturing process of the specified parts. The results could be also used as a basic information for further remanufacturing applications.
