The Bluetooth technology represents an attractive approach to enable short distance wireless connectivity. The Bluetooth standard operates at the 2.4 GHz ISM band and offers the advantage of establishing ad hoc networks, called piconet and scatternet. The spread of Bluetooth implementation in consumer products opens up a new short range wireless networking applications. Bluetooth MAC avoids packet collision within a piconet by simple time multiplexing. But lack of synchronization among independent neighboring piconets introduces packet overlapping within a time slot. In this paper, the wireless network throughput of Bluetooth packet transmission system applying the pure-ALOHA and slotted-ALOHA MAC is investigated according to the impact of channel environment. From the obtained results, the throughput of the Bluetooth MAC protocol shown to offer good performance in wireless channel, and the results are useful for the implementation of Bluetooth networks.

In this paper we designed a high speed wireless multiple access protocol, which is suitable for future multimedia wireless LAN systems which support high quality video teleconferencing, telephony and graphic databases. In the proposed protocol, Slotted-ALOHA protocol is used for transmitting random data packets and the packet reservation multiple access(PRMA) protocol for transmitting periodic data packets. The use of minislot is introduced for the reservation scheme. In order to measure the performance characteristic of the proposed protocol, a simulator is designed using an object oriented programming language, C++, and an exhaustive simulation study is carried out. From the simulation results, it is observed that the proposed protocol and the existing PRMA protocol have almost the same delay characteristic when network traffic is low. However, the proposed protocol is superior to the PRMA protocol when traffic becomes higher. The proposed protocol and the results can be utilized for the design of the wireless access systems and future broadband wireless LANs.
A medium access control protocol is proposed for integrated voice and data services in the packet CDMA network with a small coverage. Uplink channels are composed of time slots and multiple spreading codes for each slot. This protocol gives higher access priority to the delay-sensitive voice traffic than to the data traffic. During a talkspurt, voice terminals reserve a spreading code to transmit multiple voice packets. On the other hand, whenever generating a data packet, data terminals transmit a packet based on the status information of spreading codes in the current slot, which is received from base station. In this protocol, voice packet does not come into collision with data packet. Therefore, this protocol can increase the maximum number of voice terminals.

An RFID systems employ efficient Anti-Collision Algorithms (ACAs) to enhance the performance in various applications. The EPC-Global G2 RFID system utilizes Frame Slotted Aloha (FSA) as its ACA. One of the common approaches used to maximize the system performance (tag identification efficiency) of FSA-based RFID systems involves finding the optimal value of the frame length relative to the contending population size of the RFID tags. Several analytical models for finding the optimal frame length have been developed; however, they are not perfectly optimized because they lack precise characterization for the timing details of the underlying ACA. In this paper, we investigate this promising direction by precisely characterizing the timing details of the EPC-Global G2 protocol and use it to derive a precise-optimal frame length model. The main objective of the model is to determine the optimal frame length value for the estimated number of tags that maximizes the performance of an RFID system. However, because precise estimation of the contending tags is difficult, we utilize a parametric-heuristic approach to maximize the system performance and propose two simple schemes based on the obtained optimal frame length-namely, Improved Dynamic-Frame Slotted Aloha (ID-FSA) and Exponential Random Partitioning-Frame Slotted Aloha (ERP-FSA). The ID-FSA scheme is based on the tag set estimation and frame size update mechanisms, whereas the ERP-FSA scheme adjusts the contending tag population in such a way that the applied frame size becomes optimal. The results of simulations conducted indicate that the ID-FSA scheme performs better than several well-known schemes in various conditions, while the ERP-FSA scheme performs well when the frame size is small.

Reducing the energy that consumed by tag is a key requirement for the wider acceptance of the active RFID systems that use battery constrained tags. When the reader is not interrogating, the active RFID standard protocols try to reduce energy consumption of tags by using sleep mode. On sleep mode tags is active by receiving a specific signals from reader, until tag receive a sleep mode command from the reader, a tag waste energy for remaining in RX mode. Overhearing is a state of a tag in which it wastes energy for maintaining active RX state while there is no frame destined to it. According to our analysis, the amount of energy consumed by a tag due to overhearing is several time larger than that consumed by the effective communication. We propose RANO(Reservation Aloha for No Overhearing) that is designed to inform a tag of its effective communication intervals to eliminate overhearing problem in active RFID communication. The performance of the proposed protocol was evaluated through the real world by changing the number of tags and size of data. The result of an experiment, the proposed protocol performed saving about 22 times less than the standard protocol did.

In this paper, the Packet CDMA Reservation ALOHA protocol is proposed to support the multi-traffic services such as voice and videophone services with handoff calls, high-rate data and low-rate data services efficiently on the multi-rate transmission in uplink cellular systems. The frame structure, composed of the access slot and the transmission slot, and the proposed access permission probability based on the estimated number of contending users for each service are presented to reduce MAI. The assured priority to the voice and the videophone handoff calls is given through higher access permission probability. And through the proposed code assignment scheme, the voice service can be provided without the voice packet dropping probability in the CDMA/PRMA protocols. The code reservation is allowed to the voice and the videophone services. The low-rate data service uses the available codes during the silent periods of voice calls and the remaining codes in the codes assigned to the voice service to utilize codes efficiently. The high-rate data service uses the assigned codes to the high-rate data service and the remaining codes in the codes assigned to the videophone service. Using the Markov-chain subsystem model for each service including the handoff calls in uplink cellular systems, the steady-state performances are simulated and analyzed. After a round of tests for the examples, through the proposed code assignment scheme and the access permission probability, the Packet CDMA Reservation ALOHA protocol can guarantee the priority and the constant QoS for the handoff calls even at large number of contending users. Also, the data services are integrated efficiently on the multi-rate transmission.

A hierarchical time division multiple access (HTDMA) medium access control (MAC) protocol is proposed for clustered mobile underwater acoustic networks. HTDMA consists of two TDMA scheduling protocols (i.e., TDMA1 and TDMA2) in order to accommodate mobile underwater nodes (UNs). TDMA1 is executed among surface stations (e.g., buoys) using terrestrial wireless communication in order to share mobility information obtained from UNs which move cluster to cluster. TDMA2 is executed among UNs, which send data to their surface station as a cluster head in one cluster. By sharing mobility information, a surface station can instantaneously determine the number of time slots in a TDMA2 frame up to as many as the number of UNs which is currently residing in its cluster. This can enhance delay and channel utilization performance by avoiding the occurrence of idle time slots. We analytically investigate the delay of HTDMA, and compare it with that of wellknown contention-free and contention-based MAC protocols, which are TDMA and Slotted-ALOHA, respectively. It is shown that HTDMA remarkably decreases delay, compared with TDMA and Slotted-ALOHA.

LED-ID (Light Emitting Diode - Identification) is one of the key technologies for identification, data transmission, and illumination simultaneously. This is the new paradigm in the identification technology environment. There are many issues are still now challenging to achieve high performance in LED-ID system. Collision issue is one of them. Actually this is the most significant issue in all identification system. LED-ID system also suffers from collision problem. In our system, collision occurs when two or more readers transmit data to tag at the same time or vice versa. There are many anti-collision protocols to resolve this problem; such as: Slotted ALOHA, Basic Frame Slotted ALOHA, Query Tree, Tree Splitting, and Q-Algorithm etc. In this paper, we propose modified Q-Algorithm to resolve collision at tag. The proposed protocol is based on Q-Algorithm and used the information of arrived readers to a tag from neighbor. The information includes transmitting slot number of readers and the number of readers that can be arrived in next slot. Our proposed protocol can reduce the numbers of collision slot and the successful time to identify all readers. In this paper our simulation and theoretical results are presented.

This paper presents comparison of 18000-3 ASK and PJM mode RFID in terms of reading speed. This is accomplished by counting the occurrences of a few representative blocks which constitute the reader / tag interactions for each mode. To apply FS (frame slotted)-aloha protocol, four Q-algorithms, which are a Q-algorithm suggested in the standard document, a fixed Q-algorithm, a minimum Q-algorithm and the number of tag dependent Q-algorithm, are used. Through some simulations, we present the reading speed of each mode with respect to the Q-algorithm and the comparison of the reading speed between the two modes for each Q-algorithms.

RFID, Radio Frequency Identification, technology is a contactless automatic identification technology using radio frequency. For this RFID technology to be widely spread, the problem of multiple tag identification, which a reader identifies a multiple number of tags in a very short time, has to be solved. Up to the present, many anti-collision algorithms have been developed in order to solve this problem, and those can be largely divided into ALOHA based algorithm and tree based algorithm. In this paper, two new anti-collision algorithms combining the characteristics of these two categories are presented. And the performances of the two algorithms are compared and evaluated in comparison with those of typical anti-collision algorithms: 18000-6 Type A, Type B, Type C, and query tree algorithm.
